The Comfort Inn, Manhattan. I travel quite a bit on business and always bid for my hotel rooms online. I’ve never been disappointed with the results of my bidding, but last December, ‘naming my price’ got me the Comfort Inn, Manhattan, which was quite 'ho-hum'. Starting with location, this hotel is perfectly appointed for those indulging in serious retail therapy as it is just around the corner from Macy’s and near 5th Avenue. Yes, 2 hours after arriving in New York while we were happily shopping away at a great Macy's sell all the lights in NY went out!!!! Fortunately, we were staying at a hotel that really looked after their clients! The service during this difficult 2 days was above and beyond the call of duty. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that the staff could have done to make it any easier. They kept us very well informed of the progress of electricity going on in the city (even sending us to where they knew places could serve us food in AC), provided bottles of water in the hot weather and iced flannels to ... more

THE COMFORT INN – MURRAY HILL – NYC A stone’s throw away from the Empire State Building, rests a hotel that I found to be a pleasant surprise. It may not be ultra-fancy. It may not be ultra-chic, but it has quite a few notable qualities. One is security. A very able-bodied doorman checks guests for a cardkey before allowing them to enter the building. He also chases riff-raff (in the wee hours of the morning) away from the building. Obvious video cameras keep a watchful eye on hallways and elevator doors. Stayed in June 2008, I was told there would be minor refurbishment work taking place between the hours of 9 and 5. I was ok with this as I would be out exploring the city at these times. We were also told that our floor would not be worked on whilst we were there. Our floor had no wall paperor carpets and the smell of paint was awful, there was also a numebr of workmen starting as early as 7.30 and I saw some on an evening too.
