Tintagel - Fit for a King

Advantages: Beautiful historic area
Disadvantages: Can be overun by tourists

...to look at the North Cornwall Tourist Board’s website which provides everything you should need. However, I must say that our self catering cottage called Halgabron Mill just outside Tintagel was superb with wood burning fires, woodland setting and can cater from 2-12 people. A simple Yahoo search will bring this up. TINTAGEL CASTLE: Everybody who visits Tintagel must visit the castle which has a spectacular location on a small island only joined ...
...it was Richard, Earl of Cornwall the youngest son of King John who built it in the 12th Century. Even earlier finds from an excavation in 1998 found pottery dating back to 5th and 6th centuries and small settlement buildings have been uncovered clinging to the cliff edges. It is wonderfully atmospheric, particularly when we went in wild, windy autumn which has the added benefit of very few tourists. Opening times: 1 Apr-30 Sep 10am-6pm 1-31 Oct 10am-5pm ...

...three sides by the sea Cornwall has some spectacular sea views and there are over 300 miles of coastal paths to follow. Last year a YouGov survey quizzed over 2500 people across England. asking four questions about happiness at home and work, life balance and stress. Compared with national averages, people in the South West reported some of the highest happiness and lowest stress levels in the country. Many people attribute this to being close to ...
...WEST COAST West Cornwall is an area of full of character with the fishing villages of Newlyn, Cadgwith and Porthleven. Lands End is situated here and the view from the cliff tops really makes you think you are standing on the edge of the world. There is a small shopping village where typical Cornish goods can be bought such as fudge, crafts ,cider, clothes and jewellery etc. You can have your photo taken beside the signpost which has the distances ...

...life, I'd never been to Cornwall before. Having just got back from a week holidaying there, I am pleased to report that I was very pleasantly surprised with what the county had to offer. We stayed in a holiday cottage just outside the small village of Hayle. In fact the whole county is made up of countryside and small villages, with very few actual cities. The scenery inland is beautiful and there are hundreds of walks you can take - beware though, ...
...The real beauty of Cornwall is that there is such a huge variety of places to go and see. There are a plethora of exhibitions, museums, historic sites, zoos, animal sanctuaries, theatres, wreck fishing, mines, steam railways, ports, sailing trips, farms open to the public, karting tracks, mazes, gardens (including the famous Eden Project), and more - and on the whole the prices aren't that high either. Eating out isn't as expensive an occupation ...

...lucky- I got it. CORNWALL AND MY IMPRESSIONS... For several years,I’ve always wanted to visit Cornwall, and compare the Italian beaches with it- in particular,St Ives, Land’s End and Sennen Cove. I just become fascinated by the history and the interwoven stories and culture, and to discover some of the many coves and beaches of the far south western tip, is my idea of heaven,I loved it. -To have the first bite of a Cornish pastie fulfilled my childhood ...

Besides, no one had any vacancies.the popular season was fully booked up. Blast! In despair I clicked on the last possible link and found a wonderful place with just the ...

Kernow Bys Vyken!

Advantages: One of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the UK
Disadvantages: Very weak economically, relieves too heavily on summer tourism

Cornwall is a place I hold very close to my heart. I was born there 23 years ago and lived there up until winter 2006 when the awful work/house price situation finally moved us a little further up the country. I lived in two of the main tourist favourites; Penzance and St. Ives. Cornwall is like a treasure chest. Pictures in brochures do not do it justice. Three sides of the county are surrounded by breathtaking coast-line, golden stretches of sand, ...
...Tamar you know you're in Cornwall because it has a distinctive feel. North Cornwall is more luscious and green than the south, it is a little more country than coastal but boasts just as many tourist must-see sites, such as Bodmin Moor and St Agnes. It is ideal for walkers and people who simply love to be surrounded by nature in its most raw form. The South of Cornwall is the 'famous' part. It has so many beautiful, golden beaches that rival those ...

Lands End

Advantages: The views and the site in general
Disadvantages: Quite crowded in some exhibitions during the holidays

I went to Lands End in July 2004 when I was on holiday with my family. We stayed on a Haven holiday site in Padstow in the north of Cornwall. It reached my 14th birthday and my parents asked if there was any where I wanted to go and for some reason I always fancied visiting Lands End as it is the furthest point west in Britain and from some leaflets I read, it did look like a nice place. Even though my parents wern't really up for the 2 hour drive ...

He asked and explained about the charity event and Lands End gave him 2 free tickets for the raffle and a Lands End ...

The Atlantic Highway, the wrong side of abroad?

Advantages: Picturebook beauty, fudge, cream scones, and cider!!
Disadvantages: The law unto itself, English weather!

...return. Almost an island, Cornwall is 85% surrounded by water - and they're working (digging!) on the other 15%! It has over 200 miles of the most beautiful coastline in Britain - with the wild Atlantic to the west and the English Channel and lively old ports like Fowey to the south, it feels like we left the country along with the worries of living for a few days. I have never seen views quite so scenic, water so blue, and beaches so golden as ...
...**What makes Cornwall so special?** I don't exactly live in the city, more a small town. We are less than 45 minutes away from Skegness with it's beaches, funfairs and seaside appeal. It is quite the strangest feeling to yearn for hills when I hate the feeling of riding them, love the greenery when I'm surrounded by it, and reside in a cramped caravan for 4 nights with three kids. The best holiday we had in Cornwall was in May 2004, we all played ...

The Sheltered Lake

Advantages: The air, the light, the tradition, the art.
Disadvantages: I don't live there.

The name Newlyn roughly translated means the ‘Sheltered Lake’. For many years Newlyn became my shelter from the exhaustive pressures of a challenging business life. As we drove slowly along the exposed Penzance Promenade, with the splendid view of St Michael’s Mount on our left and Newlyn Harbour with the scores of brightly decked fishing boats and rooftops drawing closer, then passing the Newlyn Art Gallery, a sense of peace would ...
...containing emotions I cannot describe. They are mine. The words ‘A Cornish Fishing Village’ conjure vivid images of cobbled streets, clotted cream, Tiddy Oggies, gift shops, milling tourists, guest houses and the fishing consisting of organised boat trips for visitors, by locals whose ancestors were once part of the traditional fishing industry of the past. Newlyn is very different to this general perception. Fishing is still Newlyn’s ...

My idea of Paradise.

Advantages: Beautiful scenery. Lovely walks. No pollution.
Disadvantages: Peak times can be busy. Parking.

I have been going to Cornwall since I was eleven years old and have been there almost every year since. The first place I visited was Looe, which is just 22 miles inside Cornwall on the Southern coast. I fell in love with the place and whenever I go to Cornwall, Looe always gets a visit at some stage as I feel it is my spiritual home. As some of you know I own a camper van which enables me and the wife to tour around and not stay in one place. This ...

From our home in Dagenham we headed onto the dreaded M25, skirted around the North side of London and onto the M4. At this ...

Our long weekend in Cornwall

Advantages: Scenery and views are amazing

There was eight of us all together four adults and four children my friends mum owns a holiday cottage in Jacobstow near to Bude so we stayed there. I personally can’t wait to go back and take some more pictures of the beautiful scenery and spend some more time exploring the sights. There was only one thing that disappointed ...

...by people in their droves. Cornwall is one of those hotspots and I would like to share with you some tips and places that will help make your holiday in Cornwall even more enjoyable. My husband is from Cornwall so I have been fortunate enough to have seen lots of areas untouched by tourism. I am going to tell you about Looe and the surrounding area. There are 2 main car parks one on the east side and one on the west side, you will most likely find it easier to get a car parking space on the west side of Looe, both the east and west side are seperated by a bridge that can be walked or driven over. When you do walk over that bridge that seperates the two sides be sure ...

The Sunny South West (sometimes)

Advantages: On its day as good as anywhere else in the world...
Disadvantages: On its day...

Quite simply Cornwall is a gamble. This county at the South West tip of England can produce a sun-blessed holiday as good as anywhere on earth with scenery to match. On the other hand you can spend all week in pouring rain albeit trudging round some of the very good (and some very bad!) man made attractions. A few years ago I got the rain but this year we got 7 days of perfect weather. So with my luck in the sun expect a slightly rose tinted view ...
...only plenty to see in Cornwall but plenty to do. OK you can just sit on the beach if you want – as you will see I did plenty of this. Apart from that though you can walk, surf, fish or just sip the local cider in the sun. It’s a bit hard to explain Cornwall (and to a certain extent its neighbour Devon) from a British perspective. Apart from maybe the highlands and islands of Scotland its one of the few places in the Isles that you feel you are abroad. ...

...of season. I cannot recommend Cornwall highly enough out of the main season. It is a wonderful way to wind down and recharge the batteries. You would be amazed at how mild a Cornish winter can be! There is provision for boats to be tied up and you often see people coming ashore for a pint! You need to be ...
