...building a new Cathedral for Cornwall only took three decades to complete, at a time when the Cornish economy was undergoing one of its many economic declines.
Edward White Benson consecrated Truro’s first bishop in 1877, a year after the Bishopric of Cornwall was established. The new Cathedral grew out from the old St. Mary’s Church (the Parish Church of central Truro) that was consecrated in 1259, for the people of Cornwall. One aisle, ... ...The main walls of the Cathedral are of granite, coming from local quarries. The exposed mouldings and dressings are of a much softer Bath stone and are of varying quality. There is a lot of problems cause from the salt-laden air which buffets the building from the Southeast, and restoration work is constantly in progress.
The Cathedral houses some unique antiquities, the most outstanding among them being the most wonderful series of stained glass ...

...has been said that in Cornwall the grass grows all year round. It is true. It really does.
So why come to Bude for a holiday?
I shall start with the obvious.
The beaches are beautiful, the sand goes on for ever, where the cliffs reach down to meet the sand and sea, the rock formations, created by a momentous event many hundreds of years ago, slide diagonally out to sea, creating a playground of wonderful rockpools.
Along the coast travelling ... ...The golf course, North Cornwall Golf club, is sometimes described as the best in the West, with rolling slopes almost down to the sea. A full size course where many serious golfers enjoy a round. A new clubhouse has recently been opened, and relaxing at hole 19 is a luxury. It needs to be said that this golf course is right at the top of the town, with super views out to sea from the balcony.
For the children, while holidaying in Bude, there is ...

Advantages: Easy to get to, so relaxing, great County! Disadvantages: crowded at peak season.
...easy to get down to Cornwall for a holiday or a short break. The scenery is breathtaking, accommodation is generally reasonably priced, and the Cornish people are so friendly it's unbelievable!
No Country has better beaches! Where else can you find 3 miles of golden sands, where even at peak season you can have 100 yards to yourself! Just try Godrevy through Gwithian and Hayle to check it out! Plenty of surfing and water sports for the active. Plenty ... ...active!
You MUST see St Ives, apart from the new Tate Gallery, totally unspoilt in any way by modernistic commercialism! A tour around the quaint streets is like going back into history!
Plenty of art galleries, the Minack Theatre, perched on the edge of the cliffs, one can enjoy Shakespeare on a balmy summer evening, whilst the waves break against the cliffs.
Newquay, Falmouth, The Scilly Isles, Lands End.....I could wax lyrical ann day and night! ...

Advantages: Beatiful scenery and clotted cream. Disadvantages: The good old British weather.
I have been to Cornwall 3 times in recent years and many times as a child on family holidays. However the visits to Cornwall that are most vivid in my mind are the most resent visits with my girlfriend, we stayed at Crackington Haven in 2000, Looe in 2001 and Boscastle in 2002 and the stay in Boscastle is the one I will write about today.
We visited in a not so sunny June in 2002 just as the football world cup was coming to an end, unfortunately ... ...Most of the rest of Cornwall is in easy driving distance, Tintagel and the remains of Camerlot is 3 miles, Padstow about 15 miles and Bodmin moor about 30 miles. There is an excellent fish and chip shop in Tintagel and of Chole's coffee shop.
A definite place to visit and stay in and we might be going back again this year, although the British weather might drive us to sunnier climates. ...

Advantages: Picturesque;Cute;Good Surfing;Good Beaches;Arty Disadvantages: Does get crowded
St Ives in West Cornwall is simply gorgeous and arguably the loveliest resort of its type in
England. It oozes charm,is extremely cute and certaiinly very picturesque. It is also favoured with a good climate,-at least in summer-has nice beaches and a bohemian, arty, air about it.
This large fishermen's village with its narrow cobblestone streets and white-painted cottages seemingly spilling down to the oh so scenic harbour is an absolute gem!
I ... ...was lucky to be blessed with
good weather and really enjoyed my short stays in St. Ives. On both occasions I stayed in very comfortable, homely, bed and breakfast establishments for which the charges were very moderate There are several high quality hotels in and around the town and quite a lot of visitors also opt for the self-catering apartments which are available. The last time I was in St.Ives
was mid-September and there was still a great buzz ...

...you are ever down in Cornwall it is well worth a visit. It's on the north coast on the B3263 fairly close to Devon, if we are travelling further into Cornwall we always make a point of breaking the journey at Tintagel.

Advantages: Excellent on site entertainment, extremely good value for money and a very good choice for families with children ofall ages. Disadvantages: not able to walk to Looe itself - winding country roads notvery safefor walking on.
We paid our first visit to Looe Bay Holiday Park last year when our children were 18 months and 3and a half and we couldn't have wished for a better place to have picked. We got there quite early - just before 10am- aswe like to leave home as the children will sleep for a lot of the journey. On getting into our caravan,we found it to be quite spacious - ampleroomfor the four of us. The site seemed to be full of families - not one group of teenagers on theirown out on the pull! Another thingwe noticed was that they seemed to group families together who had children ...

Advantages: You can get there by car Disadvantages: Still at the mercy of the British weather I'm afraid
Thinking of going abroad this year? Think again.
I've been to many places around the world in my short lifetime; Turkey, France, Spain, the US, Gran Canaria, they're all great places to go to, but all have one thing in common, too many tourists. People already know about the romance of Paris, the nightlife of Benidorn, but we're all overlooking a place just as good, a place within driving distance of any English being, Cornwall.
I've been to a ... ...every time I go, I come back with great memories. Hayle doesn't hold the brandished English stereotype of sewage ridden seas and bright flashing lights from nightclubs at dusk. It's a place of peace and tranquility, coupled with superb weather in the height of summer. It has over a mile of soft Golden sandy beach lapped up with crystal clear blue seas. It's an amazing place, yet you'll struggle to find more than five other tourists on the beach. ...
