a windy easter break

Advantages: beautiful countryside, a lot to do and see
Disadvantages: cold outside summer, can be expensive, need a car

...from my first visit in Cornwall and I thought I have to tell you about it. the journey: It took us just under 4 hours to get to Cornwall from the Midlands, which is quicker then what we've expected. The first (scary) thing you notice when getting further and further into Cornwall is, that the streets seem to get smaller and smaller. At times they are very, very narrow and the "banks" are so high, that the plants will scratch along your carwindow. ...
...Our first stop in Cornwall was St. Austell. I have to say, this is not one of the prettiest places in Cornwall, so after we had a Cream Tea, we were of again. The Cream Teas are great by the way. I never heared of them before, but in this case you got 2 scones with cream and strawberry jam and a pot of tea. (all for about £4, which I thought was good value for money) The accomodation: We stayed in a B&B called Sunnyvale in Hewas Water which is ...

Atmospheric Tintagel

Advantages: Spiritual, fun, wild and friendly
Disadvantages: Don't be put off by negative feelings on your first visit if that happens!

I know Cornwall, especially around the Tintagel area, very well. Tintagel for those who are not up to speed is connected with the legends of King Arthur and for me the place holds a certain mystique. There are plenty of Bed & Breakfasts, hotels, caravan sites and self-catering places in town and on the outskirts. There are also a selection of shops - some selling the usual tatt - but places like Dragons Breath are well worth a visit. The King Arthur ...
...is tackiness all over!!! During the first weekend in August there is a mock Arthurian battle on the near by fields for all folks to see and enjoy. Great fun and you meet plenty of interesting people! The best bits for me, having spent a lot of time there, is the castle and the cove. The journey to and from the cove and castle can be made via Land Rover for a small fee as the walk to and from the cove is quite steep. The cove has a huge cave which ...

Cornwall A great Place to Visit

Advantages: Plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: none

...lovely Place to Visit Cornwall boast of a very mild climate compared to the rest of Great Britain. It is situated down in the South West of England. It is also steeped in history and at the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086 the population of Cornwall was around about 25,000 which seems a lot too me. Cornwall is very busy with tourists in the summer months which is a plus for the employment side of things but it also puts a lot of pressure on ...
...Padstow in the north of Cornwall on the coast. You will find there is a wide sandy beach and it is surrounded by countryside. This is a busy fishing village where there are narrow streets and beautiful colourful houses which lead down to the harbour. Near by you will be able to visit Prideaux Place which is a sixteenth century manor house that has a Deer Park and the grounds are fairly vast in size but it is a great day out. There is so much to ...

Tintagel home of Arthur

Advantages: A very pretty town with an amazing castle
Disadvantages: Lots of steps!

...built for the Earl of Cornwall in 1145, and of a Celtic monastery. There are lots of steps to climb if you intend to visit the ruins so wear sensible shoes and take care. There is a café at the bottom of the cliff near to the castle entrance where you can get tea and coffee and light snacks. You can also climb down onto the beach from here and walk into Merlin’s Cave (when the tide is out). The atmosphere here is ethereal and it is easy to ...

Why go to Ibiza when Newquay is closer

Advantages: Buzzing atmosphere
Disadvantages: Clubs quite expensive

This summer to celebrate the end of my summer exams, me and six girlfriends all decided to take the trip of a lifetime. Now you would expect me to say we went somewhere totally exotic and foreign but no, we went to Newquay on the South coast of England. We originally decided to go because we were all young free and single and had heard it was the surfing capital of England and we were a bit broke for money so staying in England seemed the safest ...
...more and more about the amazing nightlife and throngs of young people and it seemed even better! We contacted a few brochures about renting a cottage and ended up finding the perfect cottage in 'Cornish Traditional Cottages', as there was a beautiful house that slept ten so we all had plenty of space. We went from the 23/6/01 till the 30th and travelled by National Express Coaches. The cottage was amazing a must stay for any Newquay traveller with ...

Looe, Millendreath Cornwall !

Advantages: POTENTIAL TO BECOME SANDBANKS, poole
Disadvantages: IGNORING THIS PLACE

Looe in Cornwall was our destination for our vacation. It was close by 2100 hrs, and we made our track down the lane towards the local beach, Millendreath. At first it seemed ok, not overly steep. As we proceeded, I tried to envisage the steepness of this so called descending trek. I needed to set my mind at rest, so I stopped a passer by; to acquire more Gen on the local beach, Millendreath. He confirmed what the farmer's wife had told me earlier. ...
...very steep nearer the bottom. We carried on and sure enough it did begin to descend dramatically. It got steeper and steeper and the trees became more and more dense, I felt this could be the spanner in the works. I began to reflect, I asked myself, will it be capable to see in the dark on our return journey, with this much greenwood. We tried not to step on the giant man-eating slugs that slowly passed over in front of us, down, and down we plummeted, ...

The Cornish Pasty

Advantages: Very tasty, nutritious, 2 meals in one!, perfect if your a miner
Disadvantages: none to speak of

'Yummmm' Yes they really are extra specially yummy, we all know that, but why? What's the history behind them? Read on...... Pasties have been around for hundreds of years, but these days eating (and making) them has much more to do with tradition, than pure practicality. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...... It all began back in the old Tin mining haydays of Cornwall, and to a certain extent Devon. Miners, rightly, didn't want to ...
...restricted therefore the sensible way to get a nice nutritious lunch was to have a special 'pie' made which contains both a savoury meal and a sweet dessert. Thats how the pasty was formed in one swoop. You see, proper pasties are made with one side filled with the common, meat, turnip, potato, and onion whilst the other should contain apple, jam or another dessert dish. A common question people always raise with me is 'how did they know which ...

Beautiful

Advantages: Plenty for everyone
Disadvantages: Overcrowded roads in the summer

I love Cornwall and it is an easy day trip for me living in Devon. There are quaint fishing villages as in Looe and Polpero, the magic of history in Tintagel when you can imagine King Arthur and his knights, Truro is excellant for shopping and has a wonderful cathedral, then of course there is surfing, especially on the north coast, for the more active, espcially around the Bude and Newquay areas. Whether you want peace and quiet or an active nightlife ...

St Ives Cornwall

Advantages: Beautiful, picturesque
Disadvantages: Not too good if weather is not good

St Ives in Cornwall is the most beautiful place in England, with its winding little roads and stunning views you will fall in love with it the minute you arrive. It has everything you need from a holiday ( providing the weather is good) St Ives has many beaches and coves, the main beach being Porthminster, it is huge and flat and in the summer it is heaving with tourists, the gentle slope to the sea is ideal for small children as it does not get ...
...deck chair hire and beach huts. Shops selling ice creams and snacks are also available The other large beach is Porthmeor, which is primarly a surfing beach, I would not recommend this for small children as it can be quite rough and you will be surprised at how quickly the tide comes in. Teenager love this part of St Ives and there are is never a shortage of bodies in this area. It has great facilities including open air restaurant, snack bar, shop, ...

A Week In Cornwall

Advantages: Great beaches and views.
Disadvantages: Cannot rely on the weather being good.

We went to Cornwall for a week in August a few years ago. We stayed in St. Ives in a two bedroom bungalow on a camp site surrounded by woodland and fields. My children loved it there. They could play outside with other children staying there whilst we sat and relaxed. We drove to our destination. We left at six in the morning and stopped for breakfast onlong our way. Then we drove as long as we could to get there and then stopping a few times for ...
...If you ever go to Cornwall walk down this street. We, also, visited St. Ives Museum. There we saw interesting exhibits on wrecking. Apparantly, many years ago artists would go to St. Ives to paint and now they are shown in this museum. The last few days the sun came out, so we went to the beach. The beaches in Cornwall are beautiful. The only problem is not enough sun. There is alot surfing at the beaches in Cornwall too. We visited St. Ives Harbour ...

Port Isaac / Cornwall

Advantages: Pretty landscapes, delicious Cornish Pasty
Disadvantages: Remote, narrow and steep roads

Our visit to Cornwall was one of short notice. On Monday Samuel and I still thought we are going to Ireland and on Tuesday we drove off to Cornwall. The reason we changed our mind was the expense of the journey to Ireland. So we went online and found a charming little house that belonged to an elderly woman. At a hundred Pounds for four days we accepted her offer and started our journey. We got up at 6am, but didn't get away until 7.30am. On the ...

...Project in the depths of Cornwall around 2 miles from St. Austell has been billed as the eight wonder of the world. It started life as a china clay pit; the site is astounding the first views of Eden look like something from a sci-fi movie. Advantages: Ideal base for exploring Cornwall
Disadvantages: Heavy traffic during tourist season

...forget to visit the Royal Cornwall Museum for information about Cornwall’s past, and there is always something going on at the Hall for Cornwall right in the city centre. If it is a nice day, why not take the river cruise from Truro to Falmouth?
