Coves del Drac (Caves of the Dragon)

I visited Majorca in May of this year (2005) with my boyfriend. We booked through our travel agent and ended up getting a week self catering (we always opt for this so we can eat out every night and not have to drag ourselves out of bed the next morning for a breakfast!) and we were staying in somewhere called the Lunamar Apartments in Palma Nova. We booked only about 1 week before we were due to go and we ended up not really paying that much. So ...

Review of Coves del Drac (Caves of the Dragon)

Travelled to Majorca in 2004 where we had an apartment on the Royal Golf Course near Palma Nova. My Dad had told me about the caves from 10-15 years beforehand and how beautiful they were, what he had no way of knowing was that the caves are now a major tourist attraction, we actually drove past having seen the queues and went to Porto Christo and had a drink overlooking the beautiful fishing boats. ...the caves. The queues were still quite bad but I would imagine nothing like as bad as they would be earlier in the day with the tourist buses. On the way in we learnt a deal about the caves, they were mentioned in 'Clovis Dartetor' by Jules Verne and that the engineer Burgias (I think correct) designed the caves and completed his project to illuminate the caves and lakes in 1935. I visited these caves this year (2006) and was amazed by them. I have never set foot in anything like this before and was slightly aprehensive! I found they were fasinating, steeped in history and a real eye opener if you have never been in something like this before. the water has made so many patterns on the walls and there is an air of mystic about the whole thing. They had music playing that really fitted the scene and the lighting was really ...
...in boats on the underground lake and then everyone got to go in a boat and that was the end of the tour. I would recommend this as it was something totally different and not what you would expect at a resort like majorca. Of course, if your a sun worshipper this is probably not your cup of tea as you do spend a couple of hours underground!! A tip for you all, don't buy any food or drink at the cafe as it is really extortionate pricing!! ...
