Craig Manor Hotel, Windermere

...I have stayed at The Craig Manor Hotel a total of eight times in the last 3 years each time for two nights (Friday and Saturday), we have stayed bed and breakfast seven times and we took dinner, bed and breakfast once. The only reason for taking dinner just the once is that there are that many good resturaunts within easy walking distance that we would rather not be kept in - house. ...the evening meal at The Craig Manor once, it was an extremely good meal and I would not write off the idea of eating here again its just that there are so many resturaunts nearby to choose from. They normally give you a voucher for a free bottle of wine on check in if you dine with them so that is a nice little extra. Stayed at this hotel for five nights, their web site promised views over Lake Windermere & a high standard of service. It is situated a short walking distance from the centre of Windermere & there is ample parking spaces. The room was gloomy & a little cramped, it was reasonably equipped but I was concerned in having bare electrical wires sticking out of the bathroom wall!! The rooms were never cleaned properly. The restaurant was excellent with ...
...a decent breakfast. Reception staff was less friendly & the hallway looked like it had never been cleaned for a considerable time. We never did see a view of the lakes from the hotel so don't expect too much should you book a room. Review of Craig Manor Hotel, Windermere

We chose this hotel because it was described as having magnificent views over the lake and upon booking we were offered a 'lake view' room and paid extra for it. We struggled to see the lake from our window and when we complained they said they had had complaints in the past and now they offered 'lake facing' rooms - very misleading. The room itself was small and in need of refurbishment (only the bathroom was modern) but at least the bed was comfortable. We had had a long day and ate in the hotel's restaurant, where the food and service was very good. Overall we would not stay there again as we felt the description was a definite misrepresentation. ...
