Great for girls/ lads holidays OR for couples and families

Advantages: A bit of everything, easily navigated, Beautiful, Great weather
Disadvantages: ???

I've been to Crete twice now - once to the East side (Chania) and once to the West (Malia). It's amazing how such a small island can vary so much and if you hire a car, you can see a bit of everything. The weather us fantastic throughout the summer as it has never had rain before October or after February in recent history but be v=careful not to get burnt - the wind keeps temperatures down so you don't notice until its too late. Chania is very ...
...of bars and restaurants. The people are lovely and the scenery is breathtaking, particularly at sunset. The capital, Heraklion, has a great market and is close to the Palace of Knossos - the one place you have to visit. Malia, on the other hand is ideal for girls/ lads holidays - loads of bars (all the tourists are either English or German...), you can walk into virtually any hotel to use the swimming pool and, should you want a bit of local culture, ...

Crete-would i go again?

Advantages: Hot! Sun Tan! Beautiful!
Disadvantages:

I've recently been to Crete and stayed in the seaside town on the North coast called 'Stalis' (Stalida as the locals call it!). It was my second trip to the Island and last year we visited Via, a tropical beach to the East of the Island. The beach itself was shingle and pebbles and the sea was rocky, there were palm trees everywhere and the scene was quite beautiful. Another place we visited which was very interesting was the Ancient ruins of Knossos. ...
...history, it is a certain sight to see. If you travel up into the mountains you will see wounderful sights and beautiful views that seem like they stretch on forever. The Island is dotted with many traditional villages in the mountains and caves with interest and religious connections. This year some of the more interesting sights were the gorge at the south of the Island at Pervelli beach, where a fresh water river deposits into the sea. We swam ...

my suggestion for this summer

Advantages: fun, history, beauty, magic, all in one
Disadvantages: try to avoid staying in iraklio.

I have been to Crete loads of times, and i can tell you, IT IS GREAT! The best places that i have ever visited in my life, are in Crete. When booking a trip to Crete, one should be aware that it is a huge island, so not every town is equally beautiful. My personal favourites: Hania, Georgoupoli and Rethimno. Avoid Iraklio, since it is a bit industrial. The best season: SUMMER!!!!!!!The weather is great and there are loads and loads of things to do. ...
...choose from, some crowded ones, some more remote) and your nights having the time of your life. Hania especially, are full of clubs, whatever your taste is. If you visit hania,by the way, don't forget to visit the castle of the town, it is AMAZING. The island has loads of archaiological places you could visit. The most famous is of course, Knossos, the ancient palace, where the mythical monster, minotaurus was supposed to be living. ...

Crete a Beautiful Island

Advantages: Lovely scenary, beaches and people
Disadvantages: Big Clubbing scene

Crete is a beautiful island full of lot of sandy beaches, lovely people and nice food. I would recommend staying in crete itself for 2 weeks as you wouldn't get to do everything that you needed in one week. The best way to get around the island is by car, warning do not buy/rent a motorbike there are sooo many accidents in the island of crete involving motorbikes. This is why the price of renting a motorbike is soo cheap. I recommend you rent a car ...
...in the middle of May Time the tempreture was around 29'C which was perfect and there wasnt too many people around. Avoid going in August as it will be swamped with children. The flight time was around 2 hours and 50 minutes and it was a comfortable flight. Im sure a quick sleep on the flight would kill time Lee ...

Crete - Sun, sea and mountains

Disadvantages: Lots more fast roads than other Greek islands,

...thriving industries. This makes Crete more commerical. It doesn't feel like a little Greek island. This isn't to say it is a bad holiday spot. You just have to be prepared for the difference. There are plenty of things to do on Crete for the tourists. Not only the orgainised towns that have built up around tourism like Stalis or Malia. These places are ugly and solely for 18-30 holidays. Getting out of the tourist traps and exploring Crete is far ...

Sweet Crete

Advantages: Nice beaches
Disadvantages: Everything shuts early

Malia – Crete 1996 4 of us arrived at Sweet dreams Studios on July 2nd 1996. Wasn’t Sweet Dreams for long – more like nightmares! We were asked to leave after being there only 12 hours. We packed our suitcase and we were off to see our Rep. The Rep managed to talk the owner in to letting us stay for the night as we did not have anywhere else to go and she would return in the morning to sort us out. That night we managed to chat ...
...us stay on. Crete is the most southerly and largest of all the Greek Islands, you can guarantee a scorcher. A resort for the professional tanners, rub in the glop and go for the brown. Malia offers fine golden sands about 3km long, there is a small island off the beach with a church on it, I had to swim over, it was confession time! Crete was home to one of the oldest civilisations in the world. Look out for the biggest water park in Greece, the ...

Spinalonga.........................

Advantages: A must if at the eastern end of Crete
Disadvantages: You may want to go back again.............

We have visited Crete 5 times so far. We stayed first at Stallis on the eastern end and visited the island of Spinalonga. To say we were moved by this island is an understatement. We sailed out of Ag Nick and through the preserved bay of Elounda, (where who pays the ferry man was filmed) which we were told no boats can discharge into to keep it clear, clean and special. Along the coast and past a small island with the Kri kri on. As we stepped of ...
...over at mainland Greece, well Crete must have been unbearable. We were alos taken to the pit where they would throw the bones of the deceased and to say it was a hellish hole would be an understatment. Our daughter was at the time studying for her G.C.S.E.'s and she was very moved by the whole thing, enogh to buy a book on the island and read from cover to cover. Friends have been since and said that they are rebuilding on the island to restore with ...

Crete you can't go wrong

Advantages: Just a great island full stop
Disadvantages: the toilet paper thing

I've just returned from Crete yesterday and could not reccommend it high enough!! I booked the holiday at the last minute with going places and flew out from Manchester on the 29th of June, which cost just over £200 per person inc. tax and insurance. The area we were staying in was called Stalis and was quite a mix of families, couples. The main street which stretches for probably just over a mile, had a mixture of different, pubs, bars and restaurants, ...
...type of holiday you want, Crete has something for everyone. The area we stayed in was mainly couples and was quite a queit resort, which was nice, but just up the road was an area full of night life, clubs and bars, so we could choose depending on how we felt. We had gone for a quiet break in the sun for a week so didn't really partake in all the events, but they are there if thats what you want. Like most foreign countries these days Crete was ...

Advantages: Enjoyable place and people
Disadvantages: Very hot in peak summer

...first time I went to Crete I loved it, its different from other placed in the med in so far as it has not changed much in the last 10 -20 years, there are plenty of good village life experiences. Crete

Advantages: Full of great resorts and historical sights
Disadvantages: Reserved Cretans

...my Greek holidays, I suppose Crete was my most disappointing. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I found that was that whereas I have always found Greeks some of the most friendly people anywhere, the Cretans were not as welcoming as their relations. They were never rude, but they nearly always kept their distance (a bit like us Brits I suppose). A friend of mine had a similar experience and he had a theory as to why this was so. Apparently during the ...
...of Germans who holiday on Crete and the Cretans have never forgotten how their ancestors suffered. My friend reckoned that the Greeks have no axe to grind with the Brits, but all that all tourists were assumed German unless proved otherwise! I don't know about any of that, but let me say that you can still have a great holiday on Crete. It's full of history, very picturesque, and it's restaurants and bars are first class (and well priced). It has ...

Hersonnisos, Crete

Advantages: Fantastic weather, great food, brilliant nightlife
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, dissappointing beaches

Crete is a lovely island with breath-taking scenery and, during the summer months the weather is fantastic. A great choice of holiday for singles and the young and lively, with plenty of clubs and pubs, there is something for everyone. There is a wide range of shopping also, with shops staying open sometimes until as late as 11pm. Plenty of restaurants offering something for everyone...chinese, mexican, greek (obviously) and many more, and it all ...

Groups of guys would love it!!!! ...
