I've been to Crete twice now - once to the East side (Chania) and once to the West (Malia). It's amazing how such a small island can vary so much and if you hire a car, you can see a bit of everything. I've recently been to Crete and stayed in the seaside town on the North coast called 'Stalis' (Stalida as the locals call it!). It was my second trip to the Island and last year we visited Via, a tropical beach to the East of the Island. The beach itself was shingle and pebbles and the sea was rocky, there were palm trees everywhere and the scene was quite beautiful. I have been to Crete loads of times, and i can tell you, IT IS GREAT! The best places that i have ever visited in my life, are in Crete. When booking a trip to Crete,one should be aware that it is a huge island, so not every town is equally beautiful. My personal favourites: Hania, Georgoupoli and Rethimno. Crete is a beautiful island full of lot of sandy beaches, lovely people and nice food. I would recommend staying in crete itself for 2 weeks as you wouldn't get to do everything that you needed in one week. The best way to get around the island is by car, warning do not buy/rent a motorbike there are sooo many accidents in the island of crete involving motorbikes. This is why the price of renting a motorbike is soo cheap. I recommend you rent a car ...

We have visited Crete 5 times so far. We stayed first at Stallis on the eastern end and visited the island of Spinalonga. To say we were moved by this island is an understatement. I've just returned from Crete yesterday and could not reccommend it high enough!! I booked the holiday at the last minute with going places and flew out from Manchester on the 29th of June, which cost just over £200 per person inc. tax and insurance. The area we were staying in was called Stalis and was quite a mix of families, couples. Crete is a lovely island with breath-taking scenery and, during the summer months the weather is fantastic. A great choice of holiday for singles and the young and lively, with plenty of clubs and pubs, there is something for everyone. There is a wide range of shopping also, with shops staying open sometimes until as late as 11pm. Plenty of restaurants offering something for everyone...chinese, mexican, greek (obviously) and many more, and it all ...
...quad or even a car for the less adventurous as this is the only way to really see all that this resort has to offer...you can visit the traditional villages which are up the mountains and the view from the top is second to none.
