No way is there anywhere better than Norway Review with images

AdvantagesFantastic food, lovely ship, views that could turn a man to religion

DisadvantagesBumpy ride if you go in winter. Cabin a bit cozy

"...referred to a company called DFDS by my friend as they did cheap cruises to Norway. The result of this is the following review of my 4 day excursion to Bergen in Norway with mon capitan, Laura. We shared a Commodore cabin (otherwise known as first class. Oh yes). Meals were included on two of the 4 nights, and we had unlimited free access to the Commodore lounge. Total price? £322. So £161 each for a first class, 4 day cruise to Norway. Can't be ..." Read review

DFDS - Newcastle to Bergan

AdvantagesTime to relax

DisadvantagesDrinks expensive on board

"...There were instructions on the DFDS web site telling you how to approach from the north and south. Once we had passed through the Tyne tunnel (£1.10 toll) the port was well signposted. We followed the signs to the Long Stay car park where an attendant asked us which trip we were on and confirmed our return day. The parking was £8 per day or part thereof so we paid with £24. The car park is advertised as secure and there doesn't appear to be any way ..." Read review

Sail away with DFDS Diamond review

AdvantagesEasy to book, cheap, comfortable cabins

DisadvantagesNot much time at the destination, fairly basic

"Back in February I won a mini-cruise to Amsterdam in a competition. Personally, this is not the sort of holiday I would have chosen for myself - firstly you only get one day in the city itself and I would have preferred to have had a longer stay, and secondly, I'm sure most of us have seen Titanic, and we all know how that ended! ~About the trip we booked~ There are several different trips that you can book with DFDS, but due to this being a ..." Our Norwegian Mini-Cruise Review with images

AdvantagesGreat offers, good value prices, en-suite cabins

DisadvantagesExpensive food, can be bad if you get sea sick

"...boyfriend and I saw that DFDS were offering a free trip to Norway we couldn't believe our luck. We’d recently visited Iceland and absolutely loved it, so we were very interested in visiting a Scandinavian country for free! It was my boyfriend who booked the tickets, and this was a very simple process. He followed the links through the main DFDS website and made sure to click on their special offer links so that we didn’t end up paying by mistake. ..." Read review

A Ferry Nice Trip Diamond review

AdvantagesPleasant way to travel (if the weather's fine)

DisadvantagesHorrible way to travel (if the weather's not fine)

"...but not on the official DFDS website. Oh, it's a comprehensive site with lots of info regarding destinations, fares and timetables. There are also virtual tours around the ship, but for the life of me, I couldn't book the sailing. For some reason, it kept directing me to the wrong journey. Oh well. As it turned out, I managed to book the trip through another site called aferries.co.uk and it was actually a few quid cheaper. Talking of prices, ..." Read review

DFDS Mini Cruise (Newcastle - Amsterdam)

AdvantagesPlenty to do if you can afford it, Quick Check In, Enjoyable mini break

DisadvantagesExpensive to eat and drink, Not much time in Amsterdam, Long Journey

"...Amsterdam on a game that DFDS Seaways were running on their website. They seem to have competitions running most of the time, I won in August. The prize was for 4 people (including cabin, coach transfers in amsterdam and the newly introduced fuel surcharge) but I decided just to take my partner and have a nice romantic getaway - He'd never been to Amsterdam and I've only been once but I love the place. I was extremely excited as i've never won anything ..." Read review

Not ferry good.... Diamond review

AdvantagesCheap, good for groups

DisadvantagesLong journeys, potential for bad crossings

"...– this is known as DFDS Seaways. They now offer a broad range of holidays and short breaks from the basic ferry crossing, with or without vehicle to full cruises in Scandinavia which can also be combined with activities like skiing and with extra nights in hotels with discounted rates for DFDS customers. You can even book a week long cruise around Scandinavia, stopping off here and there, combining it with nights in hotels. In addition to the passenger ..." Read review

My idea of a cruise

AdvantagesA great adventure

DisadvantagesCan be pricey, limited options for food

"There was a time when travelling on ferries was definitely a cheap and cheerful option for people travelling to Europe on a budget. The advent of budget airlines has put paid to that, and a little bit of advance planning can usually secure a pair of return tickets for that trip of a lifetime for only a little over a hundred quid. What, then, can the ferry companies add in order to redress the balance in their favour. Now down South, I know the ..." Read review

Newcastle - Amsterdam and back again

AdvantagesQuick break, cheap accomodation

DisadvantagesRough sea, food expensive

"...sent me a link for DFDS Seaways website as they were running a competition to win a free 2 night return cruise to Amsterdam from Newcastle (North Shields). Not one to be beaten, over the next few days I spent a lot of time on the site, and amazingly came up trumps winning a cruise for 2 which I booked for Sunday 18th November for hubby and me. The cruise was free, and I had to pay £8 fuel surcharge, so still a bargain in my eyes. It was all booked ..." Read review

Cheap Cheerful and extremely enjoyable!

AdvantagesEverything Really!

DisadvantagesPool was closed.

"...11pm boarding from 8.30. The dfds terminal at North shields was rather large with a pub up the road and on site safe parking (£8 per night). Unfortunately the Ship was late in and check in was delayed. We checked in at around 10.30 and then began boarding. As soon as we set foot on the ship we were greeted by kind staff who directed us to our rooms. The entrance and lobby was clean and shiny with a reception and lots of polished brass. We entered ..." Sea Scum Still At Large

AdvantagesThey Have a variety of Routes

DisadvantagesChancea Are You Won't Want to Use Them

"...and big corporate image - DFDS are the bad guys. Big Time. - Background info on DFDS Seaways - DFDS has provided passenger services for more than 130 years. Their history dates back to the 11th of December 1866 when a group of prominent businessmen led by C.F. Tietgen decided to found the DFDS A/S (The United Steamship Company A/S). At its inception the company owned 19 ships and since then some 450 ships have carried the DFDS flag: blue ..." Read review

A great North Sea adventure

Advantagesgreat if you like ferries

Disadvantagesuncomforatble

"...be eagerly anticipated and the DFDS Scandinavian seaways route from Newcastle (North Shields) to Ijmuden-Amsterdam is possibly one of the longest. It is also one of the cheapest ways of getting from Newcastle to Amsterdam unless you are able get a very cheap flight. A reclining seat on one of their ferries can get you to Amsterdam for £44 to get this special price you do need to book at least twenty-one days in advance and go in the winter. But ..." Read review

Shiver me timbers!

AdvantagesYou get to take you car abroad in relative comfort

DisadvantagesService is not as good as of old

"I've been travelling on DFDS Seaways (name changed from DFDS to Scandinavian Seaways and it's been returned back to DFDS) since I was 6 weeks old. My mum wanted to take me home to her family to show me off just after I was born, and I've made frequent trips ever since. So in this op, I'm not just going to give you details of what the service is like now, I would also like to discuss how it compares to the service I've received in the past from this ..." Read review

DFDs Newcastle to Amsterdam

AdvantagesPrince, Entertainment, Facilities, Bars

DisadvantagesNoisey neighbours

"DFDs Newcastle to Amsterdam - Lads weekend on the drink, or romantic trip in a bustling European city? Please note - I accept no responsibility for the accuracy of the content of this review. It is being written from the little memory I have of the trip that was washed out of my brain by the excessive levels of drink, dancing sleeping and general partying! Well, for myself and 3 friends it was the former, a lads weekend away with no women and ..." Read review

Newcastle to Amsterdam crossing

Advantages Cheap Break to Amsterdam

Disadvantages Sea travel may not be for all

"...from Newcastle to amsterdam via DFDS Seaways. We used their website to book which was an easy to navigate site with no problems. Everything worked when you clicked on it. We payed £59 each which included a complimentary breakfast onboard. For this price we were given a 4 berth inside cabin on the lower decks of the ship. The room was fine, ok, not exactly the Ritz. It was clean and basic. The 4 beds were actually bunks which wasnt really ..." Read review
