Advantages Advantages Great attractions; fabulous culture; fascinating history

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very noisy and polluted in parts

I will always remember Delhi, though I am unconvinced it is entirely for the right reasons. Indubitably, the city is possessed of the omnipresent grime that clogs the capillaries of any developing metropolis; the difference being that where some such cities may be exhibiting a straightforward case of arteriosclerosis, Delhi is the outcome of consuming a McDonalds and three packets of cigarettes at every meal. Aesthetically, it can be equally pleasant. Once you get past the grotesque horrors, however, there are a wealth of things to be done. The Red Fort is probably the most famous landmark ... more

Advantages Advantages Unusual and fun experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages The hotel at Sariska

If you want to get from A to B quickly, don't go on the world's oldest working steam locomotive, the Fairy Queen. Part of the charm of such a trip is its unpredictability. And the "old lady" as she's affectionately known by some, certainly is charming. The Fairy Queen resumed commercial service in 1997 after almost 90 years of retirement. We went on the first trip of 2001 on 24 November, a journey from Delhi to Alwar in Rajastan, (about four hours duration) and then on to Sariska Palace by road (another hour). This is a review of a tourist attraction from Delhi rather than of Delhi itself ... more

Advantages Advantages Cosmopolitan, modern, rich history

Disadvantages Disadvantages frenetic, unbearably hot during the summer

Often derided by backpackers who see nothing of the city but the notorious Pharaganj district of dingy hotels and cheap roadside eats, Delhi is a cosmopolitan and historic metropolis that has seen nine cities come and go over the last 2000 years. Rather like Rome, Delhi's history goes back more than two thousand years to the fabled city of Indraprashtra, on the banks of the sacred river Jumna, now being excavated by the Indian Archaelogical Survey. Over time, invasion and counter invasion have marked Delhi's history with walled fortresses. The red sand-stoned islamic city built during the ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, dirty

New Delhi is India’s capital city is large, bustling, noisy, over crowded and dirty to some people. However scratch below the surface and there is a city waiting to be explored. It may not be on the average tourist’s itinerary but there is plenty to see and do.... There is the Red Fort in Old Delhi which is still a focal point for the country’s independence celebrations. There is the grandeur of Qutab Minar which houses a iron pillar. If you stand with your back to it and can encircle the column with your hands your wish will be granted. There are the Lodhi Gardens where the natives of Delhi ... more

    4 Stars Visiting Delhi 14/08/2000

New Delhi in the sizzling heat of summer can actually be fairly unpleasant. It is not uncommon to encounter days of searing 40 degree heat combined with humidity at around 60%...one starts sweating the moment one steps outside. However, following the monsoon season, and from October through to February the weather is exceptionally pleasant, with long periods of sunshine. Delhi has a number of wonderful attractions, from the old, with the Red Fort and government buildings, to the new, with the numerous bazaars and shopping areas. An interesting trip, I would certainly recommend one takes their ... more

    5 Stars Modern Delhi 02/08/2000

Delhi is the capital city of India, and is such a bustling modern metropolis. The city is not really made for sightseeing but more for shopping and enjoying. The best, and most famous shopping district is the Connought circle which is located in the centre of the city. There are many modern international hotels, with the Meridian boasting one of the cities premier night-clubs. For those more adventurous, the best place to stay is the Imperial hotel which is the same today as it was when it was the premier hotel in colonial India. All together, Delhi makes a nice modern change for those who are ... more

Advantages Advantages AFFORDABLE; WHOLE SPECTRUM OF SHOPPING

Disadvantages Disadvantages NO REGULATORY MECHANISM, HIGH INCIDENCE OF CHEATING AND DECEPTION

Delhi - A discerning shoppers' paradise So you have landed in Delhi and have since seen its 'places worth seeing'? Now what about shopping? Delhi has something for everyone. It offers a total shopping experience. From high end shopping to pedestrian level shops; from indigenous ethnic products to sprawling shopping malls, Delhi has it all. But having said that, I must qualify the same with some ground rules and facts. Delhi, much like Bangkok is a market for discerning eyes only. You go in for outer sheen and gloss and you had it. I will go by the main shopping centres and then will elaborate ... more

Advantages Advantages Great people, great value, great sights

Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy, crowded and hard work sometimes

Arriving in Delhi from Bangkok, the first thing I noticed was the lack of air pollution, which was definatly not what I was expecting. I arrived at New Delhi airport in late February and after Bangkok's humidity and pollution New Delhi was litterally a breath of fresh air. The people in Delhi will stare but not as much as in other parts of India. Most will help you out when they can, however, it can be hard work in the tourist spots as the sellers are always shouting and trying to get you into their shops, but once you adopt a hard faced persona and walk quickly then it won't bother you. The ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a bit dirty

I have been to Delhi many times as part of my business trips. Every time I go there I find something new and exciting there. Delhi is in actual fact two cities Old Delhi and New Delhi all in one. Old Delhi is a place ideal for those who love History. New Delhi is the Modern city. In old Delhi there are many places to visit including both the red fort, qutham Minar Channi Choq. The first two are historical places built in the Mogul times. The former is a great place to buy really cheap authentic goods. Although if you are not prepared to adjust to the Indian way of living I would suggest that ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent customer service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noise and Pollution

Delhi...what can i say about delhi. Last year i had to go on a family holiday to india but i had to fly there on my own as my mum had flown there a few weeks prior to my going. I had a 10-hour flight to Delhi and then had to wait in the lounge for an astonishing 13 hours before catching another lfight to mumbai. The city is very noisy, crowded with the shanti towns and there is a lot of polluion because of the lack of basic hygience. On the contrary, the lounge i spent 13 hours in was 1 of the best examples of amazing customer service that i can think of. The waiters were extremely helpful and ... more
