In the not-so-distant past, Delta Air Lines had a musical jingo and tag line used broadly in its advertising—all designed to support the claim that ♫ "Delta is ready when you are!" ♫
Last month, for the first time in several years, I flew Delta. I selected Delta for all the reasons that matter in making the choice of a domestic carrier in the States: It offered the schedule that would get me where I wanted to go, and it did so ... ...bit of leeway. Also, the Delta official announcing the delay noted that everyone down the line was aware of our situation and would do their best to make sure the effect on passengers would be minimized. As for the reason for our delay, it was one I had never experienced before: it was a “rest delay.” The flight crew had apparently arrived aboard another flight that had been behind schedule, and federal law required that they be allowed ...

Advantages: Great frequent flier scheme, reliable airline that knows what it is doing Disadvantages: Domestic flights rather basic and penny-pinching, no bimbo stewardesses (some might see that as an advantage!)
...and Delta. I chose Delta primarily for their excellent frequent flyer scheme, SkyMiles. BA's Executive Club is really designed for people flying Business Class or full fare Economy and they give you *no mileage credit at all* if you fly on discounted economy fares, e.g. BA World Offers.
Delta's SkyMiles by contrast gives you the same credit for any normal Economy fare, and your SkyMiles quickly mount up as each London-Atlanta round trip clocks up ... ...long as you fly on Delta or a partner at least once every three years.
Delta have an excellent website, which is now at http://www.delta.com - they used to have a more obscure URL. It is very interactive, with expected flight arrival times updated in real time for planes in flight, full details of any itineraries you have booked (whether via the website or via a travel agent) and even the ability to change your seat allocation yourself - great for ...

Advantages: I is one of the better United States Airlines Disadvantages: The cut backs on service.
I have flown DELTA AIRLINES twice, (Once to Washington D.C. and Salt Lake City, Utah). I have never been seated in any class but Coach so that is the only class I can tell you about.
~. BOOKING .~
Since I retired as a Travel Agent I always a Travel Agent to do my bookings as they have the most up to date information on discount fares. If you prefer to book you reservations yourself they you can either phone them or book on line at:

Advantages: On time, competent Air Line Disadvantages: Try upgrading to first class
...From the moment we entered Delta at LAX we were pleased with the exceptional service. The skycaps were friendly and efficient and we did not have to wait in a long line to check our luggage. The same for the check-in service at the counter. We were swiftly and efficiently checked in and send to our boarding area.
The security was very good. We had to go through three checkpoints showing our tickets, boarding passes and our I.D.'s. There was no hassle, ... ...knee replacement and he always set off the metal detector. When he explained what is was, he was asked for permission to feel his knee and was not touched until he had given permission.
The crew on the plane itself was great. They were all happy and friendly. The plane was a bit cramped (we were travelling on the 767 which has two seats on each side and three in the middle) and we were sorry we hadn't spent the extra $80 to upgrade to first class. ...

I was so impressed with Delta Airlines when I flew with them. We took a connecting flight between Orlando and Atlanta and Atlanta to Gatwick So I got to sample both internal and international flights on the same day. One of the impressive things about the flight was the food. We were only on Delta because our Airline had gone bust!!! With the meal we had REAL cutlery! Not the usual Plastic stuff and the dodgy plastic trays but real food and real ...

Advantages: food is ok, punctuality Disadvantages:
Delta - we were in America a couple of years ago and wanted to go to lots of different places that happened to be very dispersed. We flew on a number of airlines and I have to sy that Delta provided the best service. The air hostesses were exceptionally polite and the flight departed on time and came in on time - always a bonus. Although airline food is renowned as being not dissimilar to petfood - Delta exceeded all expectations and provided us ...

Advantages: Take off and Landing Disadvantages: Rude Flight Attendants
Based on recent experiences with Delta Airlines, I will not be choosing Delta ever again and I encourage anyone else out there considering this airlines to look elsewhere. Take-off went excellent, it was nice and smooth and on time. For the remainder of the flight we hit turbulence, which lasted about one hour and fifteen minutes, considering my flight was from Orlando International in Florida to La Guardia Airport in New York (a two hour and fifteen ... ...confident in their representation of Delta nor their flight knowledge. When asked a question, they were unable to respond. One particular flight attendant was unpleasant the entire flight and frequently snapped at a number of passengers. The landing was nice and smooth, the same as take-off. Personally, I want to feel at home when on board an aircraft. Now a days airline tickets do not run cheap and I would like to feel I got my money's worth with ...

Advantages: Good, efficient service; Gatwick convenience Disadvantages: Not as exciting as other trans-Atlantic alternatives
...there's every reason to praise Delta for their trans-Atlantic service.
First of all, they use the more spacious North Terminal at Gatwick, and perhaps because they're not as popular or well-known as other operators in Britain, there's never, ever a queue at check-in if you're comfortably early.
Staff are always polite and helpful, a common sign of American carriers in our experience. Timekeeping is another strong point, although sadly their fleet ... ...on their flights. Why can't Delta do the same?
Food is always good quality, but remember this is an American carrier so expect American food. Lots of savoury items where perhaps we'd expect something sweet.
But this is nit-picking; there's no doubting Delta's convenience. From Gatwick you fly into either Atlanta or Cincinnati, and they schedule literally dozens of connecting flights to all major US cities to follow your trans-Atlantic flight. They ...

...flying Delta again, given that there is so much competition from far superior airlines to go transatlantic. Maybe this was because I flew out from Manchester and not London. But wherever you're going from, only use them if they're the cheapest ticket by far, and even then, don't expect much. ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Poor service, entertainment and in flight meals
...Having been transferred to Delta by US Airways for our return flight to the UK from Tampa to Atlanta, Atlanta to Paris and Paris to Manchester with Air France.
This has enabled me to write a second opinion on a US airline company.
Having already queued for half an hour at the US Airways Check-in we joined the check-in of Delta. However fearing that we might miss the flight my wife went to the first class check-in only to be told that we were not ... ...had been booked on the Delta flight. Thus we returned to the Delta check-in with a US Airways member of staff who got use on the flight to Atlanta.
We then had to go though the most painstaking of security checks that we have ever gone though i.e. a full scan with a hand held body scanner and full body patdown and we all had to remove our shoes and have our feet scanned as well.
We then boarded the flight to Atlanta and found that the seats on ...

Advantages: Good food (for planes), good facilities, nice staff Disadvantages: Horrible 70s decor
I flew on Delta airlines about 5 times during November 1997 when I was on holiday in the USA for 2 weeks. It's a great airline, the food is good, the staff are really polite (and the American accents are great!), but the one thing I found disappointing was theat the interiors of the planes were REALLY old-fashioned. They all had 1970s brown and orange flower decor on all the seats which was awful! They may have updated the decor by now as it was ...

Advantages: Ok if they dont overbook Disadvantages: They overbook regularly
...this statement is as follows. Delta were due to fly the family from Orlando to New York so that they could catch their connecting flight with Aer Lingus to Dublin.
Delta said that they were overbooked but would put them on a flight that would arrive at New York 2hours later that would still give them enough time to connect to their original flight home with Aer Lingus.
No offer of any compensation was made.
The later flight they were rebooked ... ...concerned would not go with Delta again and I certainly will not either after that treatment especially when it clearly states in Deltas contract that over booked customers should be compensated to the value of a one way trip for a delay of less than 2 hours and more thatn twice the fare if over that time. Just to further update having taken the complaint to American Holidays Delta still refuse to do anything about it even though the Air Transport ...
