In the not-so-distant past, Delta Air Lines had a musical jingo and tag line used broadly in its advertising—all designed to support the claim that ♫ "Delta is ready when you are!" ♫ Last month, for the first time in several years, I flew Delta. I selected Delta for all the reasons that matter in making the choice of a domestic carrier in the States: It offered the schedule that would get me where I wanted to go, and it did so at the best price going. My flight would take me from Washington Dulles to Memphis via Atlanta. I would take an early morning flight (scheduled to ... more

Advantages Advantages Great frequent flier scheme, reliable airline that knows what it is doing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Domestic flights rather basic and penny-pinching, no bimbo stewardesses (some might see that as an advantage!)

I fly to Atlanta from Gatwick a couple of times a year because my company has it's US HQ there. There are only two airlines who fly that route - BA and Delta. I chose Delta primarily for their excellent frequent flyer scheme, SkyMiles. BA's Executive Club is really designed for people flying Business Class or full fare Economy and they give you *no mileage credit at all* if you fly on discounted economy fares, e.g. BA World Offers. Delta's SkyMiles by contrast gives you the same credit for any normal Economy fare, and your SkyMiles quickly mount up as each London-Atlanta round trip clocks up 8 ... more

Advantages Advantages I is one of the better United States Airlines

Disadvantages Disadvantages The cut backs on service.

I have flown DELTA AIRLINES twice, (Once to Washington D.C. and Salt Lake City, Utah). I have never been seated in any class but Coach so that is the only class I can tell you about. ~. BOOKING .~ Since I retired as a Travel Agent I always a Travel Agent to do my bookings as they have the most up to date information on discount fares. If you prefer to book you reservations yourself they you can either phone them or book on line at: http://www.delta.com/home/index.jsp Thirty days before I am flying my Agent can select a seat for me, (she requests the seat I want when she books my reservations ... more

Advantages Advantages On time, competent Air Line

It's been many years since I flew on Delta, but I must say I wasn't disappointed. This particular flight was from LAX to Honolulu and back again. From the moment we entered Delta at LAX we were pleased with the exceptional service. The skycaps were friendly and efficient and we did not have to wait in a long line to check our luggage. The same for the check-in service at the counter. We were swiftly and efficiently checked in and send to our boarding area. The security was very good. We had to go through three checkpoints showing our tickets, boarding passes and our I.D.'s. There was no hassle ... more

    Advantages Advantages Best Airline

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I was so impressed with Delta Airlines when I flew with them. We took a connecting flight between Orlando and Atlanta and Atlanta to Gatwick So I got to sample both internal and international flights on the same day. One of the impressive things about the flight was the food. We were only on Delta because our Airline had gone bust!!! With the meal we had REAL cutlery! Not the usual Plastic stuff and the dodgy plastic trays but real food and real cutlery!!! It was a nice change and was more like eating in the first class. The cabin crew were profesiional and freindly and the plane was spacious ... more

Advantages Advantages Usually ontime, friendly service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not always the cheapest!

I travel to and around the US a great deal and I've yet to find an airline to give such good service as Delta. Sure, sometimes they screw up real bad, and sometimes they seem unwilling to act with good customer service, but in comparison it is much less often than most other airlines. Punctuality also seems to be better than most others and the compensatory offers for voluntary bumping are always more generous than those of their rivals. I've travelled with a number of airlines during the past 4 - 5 years but Delta always comes out on top for me! ... more

Delta - we were in America a couple of years ago and wanted to go to lots of different places that happened to be very dispersed. We flew on a number of airlines and I have to sy that Delta provided the best service. The air hostesses were exceptionally polite and the flight departed on time and came in on time - always a bonus. Although airline food is renowned as being not dissimilar to petfood - Delta exceeded all expectations and provided us with an edible meal - in contrast to some of the other dishes on other airlines that were served in front of us that they claimed constituted a meal! ... more

Advantages Advantages Take off and Landing

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rude Flight Attendants

Based on recent experiences with Delta Airlines, I will not be choosing Delta ever again and I encourage anyone else out there considering this airlines to look elsewhere. Take-off went excellent, it was nice and smooth and on time. For the remainder of the flight we hit turbulence, which lasted about one hour and fifteen minutes, considering my flight was from Orlando International in Florida to La Guardia Airport in New York (a two hour and fifteen minute flight in total) it felt like the whole entire trip. The food was given during the flight had no substance, they only gave out snacks ... more

Advantages Advantages Good, efficient service; Gatwick convenience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as exciting as other trans-Atlantic alternatives

My girlfriend and I are big fans of travelling to the States; we've visited it on holiday some six times in four years. And the majority of those flights have been with Delta, primarily because they operate out of Gatwick, which happens to be close by to my girlfriend's parents. And there's every reason to praise Delta for their trans-Atlantic service. First of all, they use the more spacious North Terminal at Gatwick, and perhaps because they're not as popular or well-known as other operators in Britain, there's never, ever a queue at check-in if you're comfortably early. Staff are always ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap (but there's cheaper if you book earlier than I did)

Disadvantages Disadvantages food, service, standard of plane

I'm sure there are people out there who have had good flights on Delta. I'm sure there are people who relish bad customer service, miserable, uncomfortable interior design, and appalling food on outdated aircraft, but I'm not one of them, and I haven't met anyone else who is yet. I have to admit that my attitude to this flight has been coloured somewhat by the fact that something went wrong with the in-flight film on the way over. Fair enough, there's not a great deal you can do about that - but they could have at least turned it off rather than subjecting us to the first five minutes of ... more
