    Advantages Advantages Loveley town, and beach, nice atmosphere.

    Added to on 3/2/01 ! I have only been to Italy once, and there are many loveley cities and resorts in Italy so I've been told. But I really have wonderful memories of Diano Marina, on the Italian Riviera. It is set in a wide bay with sandy beaches. It has a palm fringed promenade, and quite an elegant atmosphere, there are plenty of shops and lots of pavement cafe's and restaurants when you need to stop for a break or to watch the world go by.     Diano Marina is a seaside town nestling on the Italian Riviera in North West Italy. We chose to visit Diano Marina in July, which upon hindsight may not have been the wisest time as the temperatures got quite hot. It was our first our first time to Italy. Our tour guide recommended September/October for visiting or earlier in the year such as April/May. However, we were here and we were going to make the most of it – regardless of the hotness or coldness of the weather.     Not many people are aware of the fact that Diano Marina has got a very old past. Pre-historic remains have been found to confirm that Diano was a major "village" well before the Romans. The current name comes from the Roman period, when they introduced the cult of "Diana" the Goddess of hunters. The legend goes that you could hunt, amongst others, the brown bear. Later on, Diano was many times invaded by the pirats, you can still visit the remains of the observation towers along the coast, on the mountain.
