Advantages Advantages Great Location, Ample Parking, A vast variety of rides and amusements perfect for a family.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Queueing times in busy periods, staff could be happier, a few more toilets needed.

I'm a big fan of theme parks and fairground amusements in general, and it seems my daughters have followed suit. I try to visit at least one UK theme park every year, and this year we choose to go to Drayton Manor Park in Staffordshire. I wanted to go here for two reasons, firstly it is home to Thomasland, a part of the park themed around the Thomas and Friends franchise which would be a lovely treat for my Thomas-mad eldest daughter. Secondly, purely for selfish reasons, I'm a big roller coaster nut and have been wanting to ride The Shockwave, the parks signature ride, for many years. I made ... more

4 Stars Drayton Manor - Good All Round Family Fun! Review with images 08/04/2010

Advantages Advantages Plenty of things to do on a day there!

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's in the UK, you will never get the perfect weather for it!

I have to say when I was told where I was going this weekend I was slightly dubious. Mainly becausehaving been there a year or so ago, I found it quite boring - but I thought well I have different company this time so you just never know! Thankfully this time I was with a bit more of a vaired group of people so got to see something more than just the main park! So What Is Drayton Manor Park? According to the official web-page of Drayton Manor it is 'everyone's favourite theme park packed with a host of great rides and attractions, set in 280 acres of lakes and parkland.' I will definately give ... more

5 Stars Christmas at Thomas Land in Drayton Manor Review with images 16/12/2009
    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages Excellent Day Out

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Please Note: This review is based solely on Drayton Manor's Magical Christmas at Thomas Land and not on the full park, as this was the only section open at the time, unlike the summer when the whole park is open. After watching a TV advert for Drayton Manor's Magical Christmas we decided that our daughter Holly nearly 4 would love the day out and as the price would shoot up after 20th December when Holly would be 4 we decided to go that weekend. The Magical Christmas is geared up for children under the age of 9 and is based mainly in Thomas Land. The park opens at 12 pm and closes at 6pm ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent rides, suitable for everyone

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price is high for some people

I have now visited Drayton Manor Park about five or six times during the last ten years or so, and it has never failed to be a fun day out, and money well spent. The park has this year been voted to be the best family day out throughou the whole of the UK, which as far as I know, is pretty accurate. The park is not in the same league as Alton Towers for example. But you do not pay the price ofalton towers, or have to queue for anywhere near as long as at Alton Towers. My most recent visit the the park, was last month (April 2007) and the longest i had to queue for was about 55 mins, This was ... more

Advantages Advantages Unique rides, fun for kids.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite small

Drayton Manor Theme Park is set near Tamworth in Staffordshire which first opened it's gates all the way back in 1949. The theme park is home to many thrilling and unique rides as many of it's rides hold the title of 'Only... in the world/ Europe' which gives this theme park a bit of an edge over others. I visited Drayton Manor last year and it was my first trip to a theme park of any kind and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately we didn't get around to going on any of the big rollercoasters due to insufficient time and long queues. I hope I can go back again some day and try them but until ... more

Advantages Advantages Good choices for all the family

Disadvantages Disadvantages It has a litter problem

Drayton Manor has a tough job because of its location. It is within a reasonable travel time to both Alton Towers and West Midlands Safari Park therefore it has a lot of competition on its door step. What it has done is to very carefully position itself within its target market, it probably knows that it cannot compete with Alton Towers for the age 15 to 30 thrill seekers but it does need to still offer that age group something so it very much aims itself at the family unit and young teens with enough thrill rides included to keep people like myself happy. Getting There The park is located ... more

Advantages Advantages Something for all the family

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive

The school holidays are always a bit of a bugger. Where can you take children aged fourteen, eleven, nine and four and guarantee that they will all enjoy it? After much pondering and googling we decided that Drayton Manor was the only theme park within striking distance that seemed to have something for everyone. Not that one hour and fifty minutes is particularly within striking distance. It is one hell of a dull journey from Liverpool along the M6 and it came as a bit of a shock when we got to the M6 toll; Four quid each way the robbing buggers! Nonetheless, several pee and tea breaks later ... more

3 Stars Seen Better Days? Review with images 19/11/2009
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Compact area and some good rides, Thomasland is nice.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Looks tatty and needs a bit of TLC

Drayton Manor is a long established Theme Park in Tamworth, Staffordshire. It is easily accessible from the M42 and is well signposted. The car parks are massive and look as if they would be adequate even on a very busy day. I visited with my two children in October on a school inset day so the park was relatively quiet. The gates open at 9.30 with the rides opening at 10.30. There is a small zoo which you can visit before the rides open. The current price (2009) is £25 for an adult and £21 for a child, there are also various family ticket options available. I think this is quite expensive but ... more

Advantages Advantages If your child loves Thomas........

Disadvantages Disadvantages Main park and Zoo a bit tired. Busy and lots of queuing.

Now normally we are not theme park fans and both my wife and I haven't been to one since our teens. But we decided to look for somewhere to take our son at the end of the summer before we both went back to work. A bit of web searching brought up Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Park. As Seth is mad keen on Thomas et al it seemed the perfect place to go. Website is www.draytonmanor.co.uk Location: Drayton Manor is located about 5 miles from Junction 9 of the M42 near Tamworth in Staffordshire. It is one of the UK's biggest theme parks and since spring 2008 has offered an area called Thomas Land ... more
