The Viking Experience

Advantages: history, be a viking !
Disadvantages: a bit hammy

The Viking Experience is a bizarre museum with a certain attitude. It uses an excavation of a Viking settlement as its centrepiece. You journey back in time in a longboat which sails down into the settlement accompanied by a mad viking with a loud voice and authentic, low tech special effects (take an anorak !). The settlement is populated with real vikings who pressgang you into service with the town. I found the whole experience fascinating, but ...

The Guinness Brewery

Advantages: free guinness, industrial history
Disadvantages: wobbling back after

The Guinness tour is excellent, with the industrial process counterbalanced by a good marketing exhibition, a well stocked shop and of course a pint of Guinness at the end. If you don't like Guinness (how can you not like Guinness ?) there are other options including soft drinks. There is plenty of space, as this is a major tourist attraction hereabouts. The brewery is a little way out of the centre of town, but walkable from OConnell street. The ...

ENJOY THE CRAIC!

Advantages: Georgian architecture, culture, oh and Guinness
Disadvantages: a little pricey

...the pubs and bars of Dublin the focus of which, for the visitor is probably Temple Bar. The Guinness tastes sublime and no visit to Ireland is complete without imbibing a number of glasses of the black-stuff. With airfares from the UK being offered at rock-bottom prices from Easyjet, Ryanair and the like make a trip to the Emerald Isle and you won't be disappointed. ...

A rare oul' time

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...probably do well to avoid Dublin altogether. The city is teaming with things to do and steeped in history and culture. You can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping areas around Grafton Street, the lively and vibrant Temple Bar area (which is the place to go if you want a drink), the tranquility of Stephens Green (the largest enclosed city park in Europe), and the numourous attractions such as Dublin Castle and Kilmainham Gaol. Next you will pass the impressive Bank of Ireland building and the world famous Trinity College. You will pass by the Statue of Molly Malone before entering Grafton street, famous the world over for its range of shops. Emerging from Grafton Street you can then take a stroll through Stephens Green ...

uni trip away

Advantages: the sights-read ahead!
Disadvantages: the euro and the prices of drinks!

I recently went to Dublin on a weekend trip organised by the residence association at my university. and quelle experience!! The trip itself was a bargain- with mytravellite- we got flight and 2 nights accomodation for just £45! bargain-argain! 42 of us stayed in a hostel called Jacobs Inn, which was about ten minutes walk from the city centre. unfortunately, having got up at an hour previously unknown to us students, we were thoroughly prepared ...
...of us then proceeded to Dublin zoo which was utterly wonderful and took our minds off the bleary eyes for a good few hours. The zoo was about a 15 minute bus ride away near the picturesque Phoenix park and was full of cutsie wutsie fluffy aminals (and some big scary mean ones too). At just ten Euros for students, it was definitely worth a visit. We then waited for the blessed 3 o clock to arrive to stumble to our rooms(we had a room for 8, all friends). ...

Wonderful CIty

Advantages: People, history and entertainment
Disadvantages: Hotel Prices

I first visited Dublin 6 years ago traveeling by boat from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire (a short train journey with DART to the center of Dublin). I fell in love with the place instantly. I know it is a cliche but the people were very friendly. The city is attractive and clean for the most part. As a tourist there are many historical sites. My favorite is Kilmanheim Gaol which has been restored by volunteers. This is a fascinating building and contains ...

Lovely Dublin

Advantages: Excellent for UK visitors because of the STG difference
Disadvantages: What disadvantages !!!!

...I live here !!! Dublin is a great spot for anybody - there is so much to see here you could easily spend a week or 2 & not see all the bits. I would always recommend using the public rail system (the DART). It costs about £1.50 for a single ticket & you can start from the City Centre & head out to Howth on the Northside (nice harbour, some pricey but nice restaurants), or you can head southside towards Bray. Plenty of stops along the way :- Sandymount ...
...not for swimming but perfect for a nice walk on a sunny day. Blackrock - nice town/village with 2 small shopping centres, plenty of bars & restaurants. A realy nice market on Sat/Sun with loads of unusual stalls Dun Laoghaire - home of the ferry. 2 shopping centres, a few restaurants & bars (Monkstown between Blackrock & Dun Laoghaire has 5 or 6 gorgeous eating places incl. Little Venice, FXB's, Valaparaiso, Empress etc) Dalkey - home of the rich ...

DRINK !

Advantages: crack
Disadvantages: find your own !

Grimy, drunken, lively, packed, vivacious, colourful, historical, sad, pushy, young, intense, downturned, up and coming, exciting, musical, frezied, 24 hour, backpacking, joke telling, guinness perfecting, rugby playing, viking historied, famined, parked, colleged, bullet holed, sprawling, Joyce, writers museum, fantastic, and the Liffey sluggish as a dusty blancmange creeping through the heart. The fairest city

Advantages: Its vibrant, fun and vry very welcoming.
Disadvantages: It can be expensive and very busy.

I am Irish and visit Dublin approximatly five times per year. The city is beautiful, especially in summer. The architecture is something to behold and you somehow get the feeling that you are in a very vibrant time. Its young, hip and happening and there is no finer city for a long weekend. If you like food, drink, fun, more drink and cutting humour you will fall in love with the place.Dublin has a wealthy literary history and some of its famous sons include ...

If you like shopping, you will love Dublin!

Advantages: Great Shopping & Friendly People
Disadvantages: Can be busy

Dublin is fantastic for any shopper or visitor, there is always plenty to do. I have been visiting at least twice a year. Leaving the airport is easy, outside the entrance there are plenty of buses with inspectors to help you choose the correct one. If you prefer to get a coach there is an airport service bus which costs approx. £3 each way into the city centre. There is also an airlink bus which is cheaper or an ordinary service bus. The buses ...
...online before you go from dublin bus. The bus passes come in 1, 4 or 5 days. This is a cheap option if you intend to travel around, as you will not have to look for money, just get on and off at your own leisure. The 4 day pass costs approx. £8. Once in the centre of Dublin, O'Connell Street is big, it has 2 rows of traffic at each side with a big path running down the centre with a massive spire in the middle. On this street you can find the lovely ...

Top o' the morning to ya

Advantages: The atmosphere & the culture
Disadvantages: The traffic & the expensiveness!

...says that very often in Dublin these days, but you can find many other traditional Irish customs in a very historical city, with plenty to see & experience. It's all gone a bit cosmopolitan recently with the influx of EU money, but you'll get a good exchange rate with sterling currency, so the shopping experience is a must. Check out Grafton Street and O'Connell Street, both in th city centre, if you're looking for big high street names and fashionable ...
...can be pretty expensive in Dublin these days, but stick to traditional Irish pubs on St Patricks day for the best "craic" & atmosphere! Concerts of all kinds are also pretty frequent around the city at venues like the Point & the Olympia, so watch out for a few big names! All in all, the city's got a lot of history & culture to offer, so it's well worth a long weekend there to see what I'm on about! ...

Fume free weekend away

Advantages: No smoking!, great nightlife and shopping
Disadvantages: not a pretty city

...(as good as it sounds). Dublin isn't pretty, and has a dirty looking river running through. But the shopping is excellent, even on a Sunday! The fringe festival was on whilst we were there, and we went to the Cafe Theatre to watch a very funny farce set in a taxidermists, whilst having our lunch. A good way to get a bit of culture without making a big deal out of it. We loved Dublin, mostly for the people and atmosphere. And as non smokers, we ...

Jamesons Tour

Advantages: industrial interest
Disadvantages: mocked up

The Jamesons tour is an interesting tour of a mock distillery. Personally, I prefer industrial tours to be more authentic and this one is slightly mocked up. There is, however, a opportunity to sample the product. If you are lucky enough to be volunteered for the tasting lesson, quite a lot of the free product actually. There is a decent shop and a pleasant restaurant, although the cafe next door was nicer. The 'distillery' is next to a set of tourist-trappy ...

The sad decline of a city I once loved

Advantages: I'll have to pass
Disadvantages: So many

...seen the gradual decline in Dublin over the past decade - what was once a vibrant, yet friendly corner of my home country, has, I regret to say, sank to similar depths as most other major cities in the World. No longer am I confident to walk the streets, carrying my trusty guitar on my back - the days are gone when I could literally sing for my supper. I feel a part of my life has been forever torn away and I am sad to say, that I have no desire ...
...people who told me. Regretfully, Dublin is not too far behind and sadly, commercialism now has its firm grip and is unlikely to let go. By all means visit Dublin, there are still some places that are not so eager to part you from your hard earned money - though you may have to look hard. Sorry Dublin ...
