...leave from I saw that East Midlands was on the list and as it is only 15 minutes down the road, and easier for us to access than Birmingham or Manchester, I thought I would give it a go. The other added bonus was the fact that I could leave my car at my dad's and he could drive us to the airport and pick us up when we got home.

Advantages: Easily accessed, not too busy Disadvantages: Not a huge range of destinations
East Midlands Airport is a regional airport located in Castle Donington in Derbyshire. There are flights available to many European destinations, as well as Egypt, USA (Florida) and the Caribbean with charter airlines. I have flown from this airport many times and it is my favourite airport mainly due to it's location, ease of access and relaxed atmosphere. It is easily accessed by car from the M1 (Junction 23 and 23A) or the A50 which is the road ... ...What I love about East Midlands is that there are never huge crowds of people or massive queues. If you travel early in the morning it is fairly deserted. The only small problem I would say is that when a flight is called and everyone moves to the gate it can get a bit crowded and difficult to move past. All in all I think this is a great little airport and for me it takes a lot of the stress out of air travel with it's simple layout and acessibility. ...

Advantages: Location, Friendly Service, Long Haul Scheduled Disadvantages: Public Transport Links
...I have used East Midlands quite often as it is the most nearest airport for me to get to, apart from the fact I live about 20 miles away, they serve Dublin which I commute to about 3 times per month.
LOCATION
The airport is situated right on the border of Nottinghamshire,Derbyshire and Leicestershire next to Junction 22A of the M1 motorway making it within east commuting distance for someone like myself. The M1 itself has excellent links with the ... ...Birmingham or Coventry which sometimes can be a nightmare to get to because of the notourious M6! EMA is well signposted on approach to the junction southbound and northbound, after exiting the motorway it's a simple 5 minute journey along a road running paralell with the main runway so you can't miss it!
PARKING/TRANSPORT
The airport has the normal car parks, long stay and short stay with the latter located near the terminal building. Prices fairly ...

Nottingham East Midlands Airport is a regional Airport situated in the Midlands. Serving a range of Destinations, and offering a nice experience it’s the Airport of choice for me.

...to Derby, however yesterday the East Midlands airport was renamed Nottingham East Midlands Airport. As you can imagine this has been met with uproar from councillors and residents of both Derbyshire and Leicestershire who feel that it undermines the fact that the airport serves the whole region. The airport is currently owned by the Manchester Airport Group who purchased it three years ago (along with Bournemouth airport) for £241 Million. I wouldn’t disagree, as I’m from down South and before I moved to Derby I knew a lot more about Nottingham than Derby and Leicester put together so I believe this would reflect on the rest of Europe. ...never knew it existed. East Midlands Airport is situated in the middle of the country and surrounded by the cities of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester. Sheffield and Tamworth are also nearby.
We travelled down the M1, southbound and the airport was very well signposted.
This is a small airport in comparison to others in the U.K., in fact you can probably get from one end to the other in 5 minutes, at the same time manipulating suitcases and kids.

Advantages: Close to 3 major cities, room for expansion Disadvantages: Good question, none for passengers!
East Midlands Airport has to be an airport that very little people seem to know about. Centrally located, and within a stone's throw of Nottingham and Derby and Leicester too, the airport sits right next to the M1 motorway.
It is the base airport for Castle Donington-based airline British Midland International (as it is now called) who fly from the airport to a variety of airports in the UK and on Continental Europe.
As well as British Midland, ... ...main customers are charter airlines, and freight companies. It is the 2nd biggest airport for freight in the UK. DHL recently built a huge new freight facility at the airport, and the runway was extended to allow larger planes to land.
Passengers use two parts of a terminal. The 1st part has been around for a while, and is possibly part of the original terminal. The 2nd part was recently built and is a larger part of the terminal (being it far roomier!).

Nottingham East Midlands Airport has got to be one of the best airports in the country for ease of use, and for de-mystifying the notion of flying for those who are new to flight or are scared of flying. Fortunately for me I LOVE flying and since living in Stoke-on-Trent I have tried to book all of my flights from this airport. It is incredibly easy to find (though you need to keep your eyes open when you hit the 2 roundabouts just off the M1 for ... ...in the wrong direction!) and centrally located.
Checking in is a breeze, and with just one terminal building you simply go to 'departures' check the screens for your check-in desk and away you go. There are rarely any huge queues, but if there are they usually disappear very quickly. Once you have checked in there is a Boots, a handful of other shops for your last minute purchases, and an Aeroplane shop for all of you aviation enthusiasts.
You ...

Advantages: close to main motorway (M1) Disadvantages: NO DIRECT RAIL LINK VERY VERY SMALL ARRIVALS AREA
I first flew into EMA when the largest aircraft going in were Viscounts. Since that time the airport has, it appears, sought to get as much cargo business as possible and given passengers little thought. The cargo side has really been thought out with a large area of warehousing etc on terminal roads.
The most recent building work saw a departure hall that could cope with hundreds of passengers on different flights, with an array of check in desks ... ...dances whilst checking in, however the arrivals side has not done so well. There are two luggage belts, not very long either and there appears to have been an increase in the area of about 50% since I first flew in there. I once landed there about a year ago when two flights came in close together and there was no room at all in the luggage reclaim area. Such was the overcrowding that if it had been a theatre or similar it would have been closed ...

Advantages: Small, friendly-feeling local airport Disadvantages: Limited destinations
INottingham East Midlands International Airport (Nottingham was added to the name recently as no-one seemed to know where it was!!) is about 14 miles from Nottingham, but located in South Derbyshire.

Nottingham East Midlands is one of the smaller international airports, but it really is my airport of choice. As it is smaller, there ar less places one can fly to, but there is still plenty of choice of destinations, with several of the low cost airlines operating from here.

Advantages: Access from M1, Car Parking Disadvantages: Slow security area, limited routes
East Midlands Airport has an excellent location, 5 minutes off the M1 moterway. The airport is relatively small, with just a departure area for domestic and one for international.

However the security/bag scanning area lets this down, as it just doesn't seem to be big enough. I think there are only about 4 scanners and 2 walk through metal detectors, and I've spent up to 1/2 hour wainting in line here.
Once you get through to the gate area there are a few shops ...

East midlands is the airport that i always choose. The airport is smaller than Birmingham, and offers most of the flights. It is very difficult to get lost, and even harder to miss a flight. Advantages: well located for traveling in the Midlands Disadvantages: terrible check-in on Sunday evenings
I had the awful experience of this airport last month when travelling home from spending the weekend in the Midlands of England. I was travelling back home to Northern Ireland with BMI and was at the airport well before the normal 1 hour check-in time for regional flights just to be greeting by queues and queues of people for at least 4 flights including my own trying to be cleared by by three people. I spent most of the hour i had in the queue until ... ..."Final Call" for our flight, i then proceeded to leave the queue and grab the nearest BMI employee i could see and tell then our situation, this prompted them finally to make an annoucement for all passengers for our flight to make themselves know to staff and rush us through to the aircraft. You know how it feels when you walk onto the plane and everybody glares at you as if it was your fault for keeping the flight late, next time i am going there ...
