If you spend some time in Madrid and you are a keen bargain hunter, or if you simply like pottering around shops and stalls, you will be interested in visiting the Sunday market known locally as El Rastro. The Rastro is situated just 5-10 minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor (main square) in central Madrid. It starts early every Sunday morning and finishes around mid-afternoon. It is a massive street market covering several long streets and squares, and many of the local shops, cafes and bars are open too. You can buy a wide range of goods including clothes, underwear, toiletries, sportswear ... more
