Advantages: See where Elvis lived and lots of Elvis memorabilia Disadvantages: souvenirs too expensive and food on site pricey too
...IT: Graceland is on Elvis Presley Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee, USA We were staying in Gatlinburg which was about 7 hours drive from Memphis but I'm glad we made the effort to go to visit this famous home of Elvis. THE PACKAGE: This is the package we booked on the website: • One night deluxe accommodations for two people at Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel with free continental breakfast • Two reservations for the Graceland Platinum Tour, which includes ... ...Private Presley and the Sincerely Elvis Museum. We paid about $160 per couple and shared a 2 double bedded room in the hotel so I think it was actually quite good value. I looked at other hotels in the area and they might have been a bit cheaper but we thought lets go really kitsch and do the whole thing properly as we will not go another time. Advantages: great value, free transport, so much to see Disadvantages: shuttle bus stops at 6pm,
...exactly as it was when Elvis and the Presley family lived there. It is, to say the least, very 1970's, but the whole retro feel just adds to the vibe.
The house has everything, from the impressive main foyer where guests were greeted, to the basement which I defy any male not to want in their own house (pool table, bars, leather seats, 3 TVs....).
The outer buildings also house a great deal to see - his father's office, the gym/racketball court, ... ...there are special exhibits covering Elvis time in the army and his movie career.
You need - and would want - a good 3 hours at least to see everything without rushing. Even the torrential October rain could not dampen our experience. The only downside was that the free shuttle bus that runs on a loop from downtown Memphis (stopping at Sun Records and the Rock & Soul Museum also) stopped at 6pm, and that the driver left by our watch a little before ...
