Birds Eye View of Manhattan- Literally

Advantages: Great views
Disadvantages: Lots of Queues, Very busy, Obstructed Views of Central Park due to Top of the Rock

...everyone has heard of the Empire State Building, it got its name because one of New York’s nicknames is ‘The Empire State’, and this building is pretty much the monument of New York. For over forty years it was the tallest building in the world, until the North Tower of the Trade Centre was built. It lost its title for almost 30 years until the destruction of the world trade centre in 2001, and now remains as the tallest building in New York City ...
...turning on the lights. The Empire State Building however was erected during the Great Depression, and it wasn’t until after World War 2 that it began to make a profit. When on the bus I found out for the first time that in 1945, the Empire State Building was hit by an airplane, only around 15 people died, I actually can’t remember if it was a terrorist attack or just a plane going wrong, but I found it quite weird that I had never heard of it before. ...

Manhattan in a Rush

Advantages: Tremendous, breathtaking, spectacular views of the city, well priced
Disadvantages: Queues, and more queues. Treated like a blithering idiot.

...me was to see the Empire State Building and go up it. I went to New York nearly a decade ago, at Christmas, just after my seventh birthday in order to see this majestic building I’d read so much about. However, due to a overpowering fear of heights, the attraction of lots of snow and Christmas trees, and (so I’m told) various New Yorkers complementing me with a multitude of kind comments that would be far too embarrassing to ever republish at my ...
...at the foot of the Empire State Building.” “Bloomin’ heck, that’s tall.” “Yep, sure is. What now?” This time, I was going to make a better go of it. ~~~~~~The Manhattan Skyline~~~~~~ I’m not exactly the most well travelled guy on earth to say the least, but I have never seen anything quite like the Manhattan skyline in any other place in the world. I’d been lucky enough to go there back in 1997 when the twin towers dominated the view into the ...

The biggest tower I have seen

Advantages: Excellent reviews
Disadvantages: Money for old rope

...capital of the world!" The empire State Building. I visited the Empire State Building on New Years day so have quite up to date knowledge of the attraction. It is the sort of attraction you have to go & see. Even if it is the only one you do you should really go up if you have time. WHERE IS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING? Yeah as if you don't know! Well for those of you that don't know where the Empire State building is I'll tell you. It is situated ...
...Macys. WHAT IS THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING? Well besides being a tall building with good views for tourists & a huge tourist attraction, the building is actually the home of quite a lot of offices, 2 restaurants a sushi bar, 3 coffee shops, a card shop, a post office, drug store & 2 banks. There are also quite a few little tiny newsagent shops as well selling sweets, magazines, cigarettes & souvenirs. The building was actually built in 1 year with ...

A Walk in the Clouds

Advantages: Ethereal views from high above New York City
Disadvantages: The winds can be amazingly strong

...York. You go to the Empire State Building, pay a ridiculous amount of money--and all for what? Just to look down over the city? Silly, isn't it. It's not sophisticated. It's not cool. Indeed, it's all rather corny. But if you don't do this, you are truly missing out on a very special experience. Located on 5th Avenue between West 33rd and 34th Streets in Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building was designed by the firm of Shreve, Lamb & Harmon ...
...to Remember will recognize the Empire State Building's unique art deco exterior. As Himself and I approached, we caught glimpses of the familiar structure's upper floors--then bathed in the glow red, white, and blue lights--disappearing into the clouds. Given that our goal for the evening was to view the Towers of Light memorial from the observation deck, we were somewhat discouraged. After straining our necks to look up, no doubt the response of ...

Top of the World

Advantages: Great views, iconic building
Disadvantages: None

...next review is on the Empire State Building. When in New York a visit to a skyscraper is a must as this is what the city is known for so why not go to the biggest and the best! The structure was completed in 1931 and for over forty years the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world. The World Trade Centre overtook it when it was built in 1972 but after 9/11 the Empire State Building became the tallest building in New York City ...
...very convenient. The Empire State Building has 102-storys and is designed in a very Art Deco style. Apparently it has been designated one of the seven wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers and has been a National Historic Landmark since 1986. It's definitely a very imposing building and quite a sight to see from the street. It's probably most recognizable in popular culture for the film King Kong as it was the building ...

Time to get in a State

Advantages: Amazing views, iconic building
Disadvantages: Queues!!!

...been so I designated the Empire State Building (ESB) as a must see. SOME FACTS: The ESB was built in 1930. At the time it was the world’s tallest building and it is still up there in the tallest buildings list (currently number 15). The ESB is 1472 ft tall (if you include the antenna) and there are 102 floors. LOCATION: Ok so you may have guessed that the ESB is in New York City! It is at 350 5th Avenue and the intersection with 34th Street. Trust ...
...and not go up the Empire State. It really is the most amazing view. Ok so the queues can be unbelievable but it is worth it. Mr Tart was moaning when we were queuing but he was really glad that we’d made the effort to go up in the end. It’s not cheap either, but again I do think it’s worth the cost. ...

No wonder men feel inferior.....

Advantages: Spectacular views
Disadvantages: Where was my DDG man at sunset?

...man on top of the Empire State Building at sunset? Ok so I ended up the top of the Empire State Building with Soho Black at 9.30am but we can all dream can't we? The Empire State Building(ESB) was up until 1972 the world's tallest building. It now stands at number 5 in the top 10 worlds tallest building. Not a bad feat for a building that was constructed in the 1930's.Construction began in 1930 on the site of the old Waldorf Astoria hotel on the ...

On Top Of The World!

Advantages: Fantastic Views
Disadvantages: Quite Expensive, Lots Of Queues

...the city without visiting the Empire State Building, as its presence dominates the city, but that is exactly what I did a few years ago. The truth is I fully intended to pay a visit but I just ran out of time. Therefore when I found myself back in New York a couple of years ago I made sure that it was at the top of my list of things to do. THE BACKGROUND The Empire State Building may be world famous as one of the tallest man made structures in ...
...Following the completion of the Empire State Building it instantly became the World's tallest building and remained so a record 41 years until the completion of the World Trade Centre in 1971. Following the events of September 11th 2001 the Empire State Building is once again the tallest structure in New York, but now ranks only 9th on a World scale. MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS The first thing that struck me about the Empire State Building was that the ...

Having watched a holiday programme, Shane had established that there would be fewer crowds of tourists, at the Observation Station at night. The building is open from 9.30 am till midnight daily. ...Fifth Avenue. The Empire State Building is a distinctive silhouette, on the New York City skyline. It is possibly the most famous building in Manhattan, if not the world. It was built in 1929 and was the tallest building in the world, at the time. When it opened in 1931, space was hard to rent out due to 'The Great Depression', hence the nickname "The Empty State Building". What save the building, from financial collapse, were the view and the popularity ...

The Empire State Building is a must see sight located between 33rd and 34th Street it offers an amazing view of New York and the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Conneticut and Massachusetts a view on a clear day of up to 80miles. Awesome and Inspiring

Advantages: View, Price, Inspirational
Disadvantages: possible long lines and wait

...some marvelous reviews of the Empire State Building. All very much the same (accurate) in regard to location, height, view, etc. Yet, each interestingly unique and different. The Empire State Building has a profound impact on everyone who steps foot on one of its Observation Decks. It may not affect every person in the same manner, but it has the power to affect every person. It has the power to instill in everyone a memory that will last a lifetime. ...
...I took him to the Empire State Building at the age of 18. I never told him how I felt up there as a child. When we had first arrived in New York my country-raised son was hesitant to hail a taxicab. We spent about 45 minutes on the Observation Deck of the Empire State Building. We looked through the binoculars from all four sides. He "oohed and aahed". I heard "cool" over and over again. We posed for pictures. When we got back down to the street ...

A 23 Week Long Erection...

Advantages: .
Disadvantages: .

...Well, I went to the Empire State Building and since there's not all that much to do there, I thought I'd go to the top and have a look at the view, like you do (ok, I tell a lie. That was what I'd gone for all along - there really is very little to do there?.) ~~ Getting There ~~ The ESB is nice and central, located near the world famous Macy's. The nearest subway stop is 34th St Herald Square, which is handily accessible from lines N,R (the yellow ...
...be standing next to the Empire State Building for a while". At that point we were literally only one block away from the place in question, so if it had come crashing down he would have been squashed. What I really didn't get though, was why anyone, at any point, would just go and stand next to the ESB - any ideas???? ~~ Verdict ~~ If you want to see the new (and improved? Maybe not) NYC skyline, then this place is a must as it's now the tallest ...

State of the Art...

Advantages: Famous
Disadvantages: Busy, Crowded and Views are nothing compared to the WTC

The Empire State Building almost certainly produces a mental image of New York for you. Dependent on what movies you've watched, you may have variously seen it with a giant ape ascending the summit; smashed to pieces by a giant lizard; the rendezvous for a romantic couple; or even submerged by a tidal wave... Since its completion in 1931, this building has dominated the skyline of Manhattan and provided a focus for tourists and locals alike. One ...
...utterly breathtaking! The Empire State Building stands on 34th St, right in the middle of the island of Manhattan, giving views across the whole of the island and beyond. To the South you will see the famous flatiron building, woolworth building and the awesome twin towers of the World Trade Center, not to mention the Statue of Liberty herself. Turning slightly to the left are the Brooklyn and Verrazano bridges in the distance. Turning North rewards ...

This famous tower is still a good sight to see

Advantages: You just have to be able to say 'I've been there' and annoy your friends!
Disadvantages: Erm... it's really just a big building, but don't tell anyone!

...building in the world, the Empire State Building is still worth a visit even if the World Trade Center now dwarfs it in the New York skyline, if only because it usually comes as something of a surprise that people really do go about their day-to-day business in this world famous building. The views from the top are, of course, stunning, and this may be a better bet for photos than the World Trade Center, since, without glass you run less risk of ...
