Advantages: It is cheap Disadvantages: It is boring
Espirito Santo is the name of a State north of Rio. The capital, Victoria, is one of the ugliest memories I have of Brazil. Enough said. Marataizes, a bit further up on the coast, is a cheap beach resort for Mineiros, the inhabitants of Minas Gerais. I went there at the beginning of my visit to Brazil, when I did not have an idea of other beaches in Brazil. With hindsight, the beach is not really worth the effort of going there. Advantages: Garden State, Breathtaking Scenery, Stunning beaches, Vibrant Cities Disadvantages: As with most of Brasil, long distances between places, no rail network
...update for the state of Espirito Santo (ES) so that people don't get the wrong idea about this part of Brasil.
Vitoria - the Capilal and the largest city in the state - a vibrant city and port on the coast. Airport links directly from Rio De Janeiro. Beach OK but sea could be better actually on the city waterfront. However, excellent beaches to be found at Vila Velha a short ride to the North of the city. Vibrant nightlife with plenty of bars, nihgtclubs ... ...on a large hill overlooking Vitoria. Breathtaking views of the city and well worth the trip. Culturally, there are plenty of Art galleries and museums to keep you happy if this is your thing. As with most cities - watch the traffic and keep your valuables close to you. Common sense prevails!
Beaches - resort towns include Guarapari and Guriri, Itaunas for dunes and deserted beaches/open spaces, and Cachoeiro de Itapemirim to the North of the State, ...
