I hired a car from Europcar last Sunday for a day trip and was pleasantly surprised at the low price which was just £43 for the day. This was for abasic car with no extras.
When I went to collect the car the check out was very fast and efficient and i was given the added extra of an upgrade to a VW POLO with ABS ,Electric Windows and Air Conditioning. The car was clean and fresh but I must say that the Polo would not be a car I would want by choice ... ...easier car to drive with better internal space but that may be a personal preference.
We travelled around with no problems and returned that car 30 mins ahead of schedule . Then the staff from hell arrived, no pleasantries just give me the papers and wait until I check the car, which was done some 15 minutes later and without any apology. I have just returned fromm Italy where I rented a Europcar Fiat for approximatey 5 weeks.
This amounted to a cost of 627 pounds-ninety one pence.
I arranged for a 4 day hire from the WOODFORD, East london depot of Europcar for the Christmas holiday but I had lost my paper section of my driving licence whilst in Italy so I took with me my international driving licence AND the Invoice/rental agreement from the Italian hire.
The manager at Woodford was rude, abrupt and refused my rental without even looking at my paperwork even though I had PAID IN FULL IN ADVANCE.
Disgusting lack of service especially at a festive time of the year when there is reduced public transport.
I WILL NEVER USE EUROPCAR AGAIN. ...

Hired a car at Malaga Airport. Quick pick up, no problems. On return i filled the car to the brim with fuel as instructed and drove the remaining 20km. They charged me 24 euro because the tank was not full, i must have used 2 litres at most! Also they saw a small scratch which i must have missed at pick up because i know i did not cause it. This cost £200 FROM AN ESTIMATE BY THE OFFICE GIRL. No chance to discuss, i was totally ignored.
Do not use this company.
I am sure the staff get commission for extracting money from you.
If you have to use them take out every insurance you can because they will get you. ...

...in the past I found Europcar to be one of the best value that I had come across. I saw Europcar advertised at Newcastle train station as being the perfect hire car company when travelling by train. This means that most of the pick up points are within walking distance of the stations. This is perfect for those who do not want to drive long distance to get to that holiday destination.
With a promotional deal from GNER and Europcar I rented a fantastic ... ...This was to pick up and drop down in a different city which gives great flexibility. This was a good sized car with excellent fuel consumption and was in good working order. A good range of cars was available for hire.
There was nothing comlicated about Europcar, all went without a hitch and good back up service was provided if needed. ...

...I am charged a PCN. Europcar have admitted their error - that the Waterloo branch forgot to process the CC - but I am still waiting to get a refund! Even writing letters to the Manager of Customer Services has been of no help. They did actually email me a credit note, but to the wrong person, wrong address and wrong card which is of course, of no use to me. I am still chasing up my refund and am in daily contact with Europcar but each time I am told ... ...can expect it within 5-7 working days.' But at the end of the week, nothing appears in my account. I call up Customer Services, am told there is an 'error' and that my refund has now been 'activated' and so on and so forth. This has been going on for 4 weeks now. My advice? We hired a rental truck in Sydney last year and paid for insurance. My husband rolled back at a traffic light causing minor damage to the car behind. We returned the truck and paid $350 excess.
Some months later we received a claim from the insurance Company of the other vehicle claiming full cost for the damage.
Europcars claimed we were not covered for the accident as the truck had rolled backwards and I was unable to get a copy of the original ... ...$350 was for $900 damage to the truck. There was absolutely no damage to the truck which had a cast iron lift on the back. I have received no noticication or invoices about this supposed damage. Every time I contact them they say they have sent information but nothing has ever arrived and they don't answer my emails.
STAY AWAY FROM EUROPCARS AT ALL COST you may think you are saving $20 but you'll pay far more in the long run. ...

...recently hired a car from Europcar at Geneva airport. Can't complain about the car which was an Audi A2 and rather splendid, but the service was strange though. For a start no-one checked the car out with us. It was missing all it's wheel trims (more of that later) but I couldn't be bothered to go all the way back to the terminal to report it, so just drove off. The car ran fine apart fom a rather worrying orange warning light coming on. A german ... ...Guess what ? No-one from europcar was there to check it in, althought a National employee was checking in one of his cars. I locked it and returned to the Europcar desk, handed back the chitty, paid and that was that. No one from Europcar had clapped eyes on this car to know whether it was actually there or not. I have heard horror stories of people being subsequntly being charged for disputed damage, so I asked for them to clear the deposit from ...

HOLIDAYAUTOS.CO.UK and EUROPCAR stink.
I was forced to upgrade my hire car at Granada airport as another child travelled with us at the last minute and was told by the Europcar spanish staff in broken English that the price of the new car would be 292 euros. The already charged price of 170 euros would be subtracted from this I would only pay the balance ( 122 euros ). I booked the original car through holidayautos.co.uk.
On my return my credit ... ...car for 170 euros I would then agree to pay another 292 euros to accomodate a small child.
I would have simply asked an adult member to get a taxi for a fraction of the cost.
EUROPCAR misinformed me and HolidayAutos.co.uk have been totally unhelpful.
Use either at your peril. ...

Put simply, Europcar in our experience are to be avoided at all costs. They may well be one of the cheapest providers, with a large network of vehicles, but our experience is that this company pays little or no regard to the needs of its customers. If you do rent a car from them, check the exterior AND the interior thoroughly BEFORE you sign the papers as we were not given the opportunity to do so before the vehicle was checked out and this caused ... ...properly on return. With most other companies this would be resolved quickly, but due to the unavailability of the customer service department, the issue still lingers without resolution. They took money from our account without any discussion or justification and then ignored attempts to communicate with them. And be prepared for potential additional charges to be added to your card after the rental, without any prior discussion attempt to explain ...

I have used Europcar 3 times this year when travelling to and from the airport to my appartment. They offer a first class service and are very competitive with their rates. You are able to hire the car from one airport and drop it off at another airport which has been a blessing for me as I often fly to Murcia and depart from Alicante. The also offer a free roof rack, free additional drivers and free car seats and booster seats.
As long as you return ... ...not get charged the extortionate prices that some other car companies charge for a tank of petrol.
They are easy to find and there is hardly any paperwork. All in all a top class hire company and one that I do not hesitate in recommending to friends. ...

...and rented a vehicle thru Europcar Montreal Canada with unlimited milage. After returning the veicle in perfect condition and ahead of the scheduled time Europcars agent told us he had assessed an over milage fee of over $150 stating that we didnt have unlimited miles. Although the agent and Europcar knew of where we were to go and that we had confirmed an unlimited milage agreement they had changed the contract to specify a limited milage of 200 ... ...the contract in front of my face when i calmly disputed the charges! Amazing... This company is dishonest and sneaky, they will attempt to add costs at every opportunity (we watched two other very upset customers return their vehicles and argue the charges in just one hour of waiting!). Beware of this company! ...
