frequent travellers guide to eurostar
Review of Eurostar by
NATI
Advantages: Hassle free, can change the ticket once
Disadvantages: Cheaper from france than UK, time consuming
...two countries. I have used eurostar for the majority of my journeys, but this is mainly because it is usually cheaper than flying. It is a convenient way to travel, very comfortable and doesn't take an excessive amount of time considering that a train journey within Britain can take just as long as the London to Paris crossing! Checkin is conveniently short, although the staff do get unnecessarily arsey with you if your connecting train is delayed ...

Lille, at lot nicer than Paris
Review of Eurostar by
Macdoo
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...reasonably priced getting there on Eurostar was.
As a city Lille is far more manageable than Paris, and also, with only two hours journey time from Waterloo, an hour closer as well.
The shopping is excellent, and considerably cheaper than anything in London. As well as the huge shopping centre opposite the station, the old town has a good selection of smaller boutiques. For those interested in getting wine on the cheap, the carrefour supermarket ...

Beyond Paris
Review of Eurostar by
educators
Advantages: The need to change trains is eliminated
Disadvantages: Havoc for timetable planners
Eurostar does provide a link to the South via Lille but it would be good to have some trains going beyond Paris.
We should not have to wait for the new link from Folkstone to be built. In theory a train could travel from Waterloo to Vladivostock providig it could cope with different gauges. Similarly a link could be established to Africa near Gibralter.
The train may offer comfort without the problem of waiting at airports but the need to change ...

Quick review of Eurostar
Review of Eurostar by
Ibonny
Having booked what appeared to be a "package trip" to Bruges with Eurostar, I was shocked to find on arrival at Brussels there had been a train strike for 10 1/2 hours and we had not been informed before leaving Waterloo. We found ourselves stranded in Brussels with no alternative but to get a taxi for 250 euros to Bruges, now Eurostar will not reimburse us the taxi fare and told us their staff did not even know there was a strike! Where is there responsibility when it comes to getting us to our destination!

...countries with the United Kingdom.
The Eurostar offers the same service as the french "TGV" (High speed trains).
Second class seats are comfortable even if you miss a little place to relax your legs and that you are obliged to lengthen them under the seat of the front neighbour. Concerning the first class I did not test them so I can not say to you.
For those who travel with children, I saw an adjusted compartment with a games area, what ...

Beware of hidden charges and delays
Review of Eurostar by
Udo1
Advantages: quick and easy,
Disadvantages: sometimes unreliable, hidden charges
For the fifth time now I have just come back from a journey to Europe via Channel Tunnel. The first three times the train was on time and I had no problems, even though the toilets in the french terminal were not very clean. The fourth time there was a delay of an hour, because of maintenance to the tunnel. The last journey was delayed by one and a half hours, because there was a train stuck in the tunnel. On the way back I was late by ten minutes, ...

Advantages: Speed of access to Paris

Channel Tunnel
Review of Eurostar by
christopherbrown
Advantages: As stated in the text
Disadvantages: None, apart from the odd staff strike (the web site keeps you informed of this, and does not normanly disrupt services)
I would rate the Eurotunnel quite highly. I have used the service only twice, and I am using the Eurotunnel again this weekend. The prices of the train works out to be just as competitive as the ferries, or even more competitive. There are numerious discounts to be given. If you book online, you get £2 deducted off the orignial price, if you join their points plus scheme, then you recieve another 10% off the booking. If there is a special offer on, ...

EuroEclipse
Review of Eurostar by
peel.rebekah
Advantages: speed
Disadvantages: price, food, and impatient staff
Eurostar has recently been trying to rejuvenate its image by hosting the monthly Technick'Art excursion, a party/meeting of minds of Paris' elite art press and writers. Did it work? I think not.
Although the train has regained the cleanliness it had lost a few months back,(non flushing toilets, broken telephones and chewing gum on seats,) I still feel that this form of transport is overpriced and under staffed.
The French side of affairs has ...

As quick as flying and much less hassle
Review of Eurostar by
isogashi
Advantages: Quick efficient, can be cheap, very reliable
Disadvantages: Only from London or Asford
...luggage you should take the Eurostar from London Waterloo or Ashford. Being a mainline station, Waterloo is easy to get to. Check in is very quick and efficient and you can check in till 20 minutes before. The trains are excellent and very clean and provide lots of legroom for even the tallest travellers. The trip itself takes about 3 hours both for Brussels and Paris and takes you right to the respective city centres. If you can I would definitely ...

DID YOU SEE THAT FISH PASS BY
Review of Eurostar by
dabmim
Advantages: Comfort, food, drink.
Disadvantages: Waterloo
Euro-star is the train running from Dover under the sea directly into France. I’d always vowed it was not natural to go under the sea, and worried about seeing fish swimming by as we zoomed our way to the sunny shores of France. I had in fact convinced myself that the tunnel was made of see through glass, which was going to crack and let the sea come rushing through -just when I was in the travelling through it! Too many horror films I suspect!
Anyway ...

Don't use Eurostar - fly instead!
Review of Eurostar by
JGramp
Advantages: Paris Nord train station is well situated and convenient
Disadvantages: unreliable online booking service, high prices, poor customer service
I would not recommend Eurostar to anyone who values good customer service, value for money or reliability. I was looking forward to my journey having heard good things from friends and family.
Having booked my tickets online a few weeks in advance and received instructions to collect my tickets at the train station on the day of travel, I did this and was then told my credit card hadn't been debited and the tickets had been cancelled just days ...

an easy way to travel to France
Review of Eurostar by
chrissyt80
Advantages: comfortable, enjoyable, good access to destinations, new station in London
Disadvantages: better upkeep of trains needed
...have always thoroughly enjoyed using Eurostar on my many trips to Paris, to the alps and to the south of France. I have always had good experiences and have not suffered delays - lucky me. The fact that you can get to the centre of Paris so quickly is amazing. As I am not a great fan of flying using Eurostar is brilliant for me. No long queues or long check in times, instead, hop on the tube to Kings Cross, check in with time for a quick drink and ...

Review of Eurostar by

Advantages: Nothing compares
Disadvantages: none
...to travel to go by Eurostar to France with my litlle brother, and the service is very very nice. It is quickly, and the train is just perfect. I also coming back from France to UK I just didn't pay attention, or not attention enough and I didn't get off where I should, so next stop Victoria in London. I did explain the situation at the Eurostar desk and they gave to me two free tickets to my destination because I missed in the first place. Very nice! ...

Smokers Beware
Review of Eurostar by
biffab
Advantages: Speed, Ease
Disadvantages: non-smoking, limited foodstuff in terminal at Waterloo
I undertand that all Eurostar trains are to be non-smoking from the end of October.
I am not a smoker but thought I ought to warn those who, to be prepared.
Also beware that Waterloo International (ie once you have gone through the ticket gates to the Eurostar terminal is also completely non-smoking.
That could mean that even if you check in at the very last minute and then your train is on time, it could be several hours before you can have a ...
