...a 10 day trip to Fiji and stayed at the Sheraton Fiji Resort which is located on Denaru Island just outside of Nadi. It is actually part of the main island but entering the Sheraton resort is like entering a different world. Fiji is a beautiful experience not to be forgotten! On arrival the warm weather was a joy coming from the somewhat mixed bag of New Zealands winter. We (I joined forces with another girl backpacking) were introduced to what the locals call 'Fiji time' right from the onset as our pick up for the hostel we were staying at was a bit late getting us from the airport. ...pool. The roads and towns in Fiji are full of potholes and the local taxi drivers can be quite sleepy sometimes so it does pay to talk to them. The town has the kind of third world rustic feel to it but is quite safe. You can purchase some brilliant wooden statues, seashells and all the touristy stuff you could possibly dream of. The weather does get hot and you will get burnt very easily, I had my feet sitting in the pool and they got sunburnt! ... Read review

Disadvantages: Long ride in a small boat

Octopus is consistantly rated as one of the best budget resorts in Fiji, and it's not hard to see why. Our beachfront bure (pronounced like puree) was lovely, traditionally built with a bathroom where the shower had no roof! It was very comfortable, and we didn't mind the resident lizards at all, because they ate the mosquitos! ...honeymooned on Castaway Island in Fiji during March 1999. Despite the on-going problems in the country now, I hope that when things are safer to return we will be able to return to this wonderful South Sea paradise. With all of the fantastic scenery and the fab food my lasting memeory is of the Fijian people and their kind and gentle nature. I spent 3 weeks in Fiji and its islands, one of the first things I did was spent a few days diving... Wow, diving was fantastic, drift dives, and shallow dives were the main types available. We chose Fiji as one of our stopovers on our RTW ticket as I've always wanted to go there. It sounds exotic and I had read it was a really friendly place. Both of these proved very true. We stayed at a resort near to Nadi - others went onto other islands but we didn't have time. The three days that we spent there were excellent.
