The festival is based around the Fish Quay and consists of live music, street theatre and fairground attractions close to the mouth of the Tyne. This means it can get quite cold, so make sure you wrap up warm.

The Fish Quay Festival has been re-named WOW in recent years, which stands for Window on the World. It is mainly a music festival, featuring local up and coming bands and usually a handful of more widely known bands. The festival runs from Friday to Sunday, with a showpiece on the Saturday night, featuring a well-known band and spectacular fireworks on the river.

Advantages: Public transport very close to venue. Disadvantages: May rain.
...the World (WOW) North Shields Fish Quay Festival, as sponsored by Orange, (the mobile phone people). I live on top of it, and for 3 days over a May weekend we have lots of visitors here. Most of them are OK and just out to enjoy themselves, but some inconsiderate people bring their cars, (there is a metro station about 500 or so yards from the venue), and block us residents in, cause a lot of mess by also bringing their dogs in their cars and park ... ...and around the North Shields Fish Quay would, I know, appreciate it. Last year was otherwise a roaring success. I particularly enjoyed all of the music and the fire work display, even if it did rain.
This year plans to be the best yet with the continents being represented along with a fictional extra continent, Orange this one I believe. So do come along and enjoy yourselves, I want to personally see each and every one of you here this May weekend ...
