The Best Restaurant in the North Of England.

Advantages: God I don't know where to begin.
Disadvantages: Start saving now.

It's simple: This is the best restaurant I have ever been to, easily, hands down, there is no contest. For our five year anniversary just two nights ago my boyfriend surprised me and took me to the Fishermans Lodge. Which is located in the beautiful valley of Jesmond Dene on the edge of Newcastle Upon Tyne, just a five minute drive from the city center. Oh my God how thrilled was I. I totally wasn't expecting him to take me there. It is very exclusive ...
...months and everytime we go for a walk in the Dene we have a gander at the menu and salivate over the most amazing sounding dishes ever....... I couldn't believe it when our taxi headed into the Dean and I realised that he was actually going to take me THERE. Given it's location the Fishermans Lodge is very quite and exclusive, you certainly couldn't walk there so you don't get people just popping in from the street like everywhere else. The restaurant ...

Disappointing

Advantages: Locally sourced good quality ingredients used
Disadvantages: Overpriced and dire service

Dined on a Thursday evening in January 2008 with my husband and we were sadly disappointed. Service was dreadful! We waited a full hour for our starters - booked for 8 and finally got them at 9. They seemed to have quite a few large business groups in that night and they seemed very overstretched. Food was very well cooked and presented but I couldn't help feeling the combinations were slightly pretentious in that they had been chosen to demonstrate ...
...was not what I expected at the price, in particularly the service. Taxi driver who took us home when we finally finished (11.35pm!) told us he had heard the same complaint from diners quite a few times of late. We would not rush back as there are many better dining experiences in the area at much more reasonable prices. What a shame! Summary: Service dire. Food well cooked but slightly pretentious. ...

Wheres the seafood?

Advantages: Your wallet won't be as heavy.
Disadvantages: over priced, remote, arrogant

You would have thought with a name like fishermans lodge, the menu would be brimming with seafood delights, sadly no. Fish, fish and more fish - how about a bit of seafood variety - you ever hear of a prawn or calamari? . Frankly Ł40 for 2 courses - all I can say is RIPOFF!! -very little of interest in the menu. I literally grimaced when my girlfriend wanted to order the smoked salmon entree AND they have the audacity to charge extra for side plates ...
...a cigarette I was told there was no smoking on the premises and I had to go outside into the rain, cold and wind and around to the patio where the entire restaurant can watch you shiver - thanks very much!. One was not amused. Avoid this if you have sense. ...

Superb cuisine

Advantages: Best restaurant in Newcastle.
Disadvantages: Quite costly and off the beaten track.

The food here is among the best that I have eaten. The service is simply second to none. The meal will cost you quite a lot, especially if you have wine with it. The other problem is that you either need to drive or take a taxi as it is quite a distance from buses or the metro. The menu mainly consists of seafood or fish but there is usually steak also. I have had the Guinea fowl here and ir is lovely, as is the quail starter. The dover sole melts ...
