Advantages: Fresh fish, location. Disadvantages: Two sittings for dinner.
Fishers in the City let us down the last time we had a family dinner there. Did that get us down? Well yes, momentarily, there might have been a dodgy oyster or two. But we sprang back and took our mother (she's 78 you know) to the original and vastly superior Fishers Bistro, down at The Shore in Leith, to celebrate her birthday.

It's been a while since Fishers has been reviewed here, so time for an update I guess, with a quick note: there are two Fishers in Edinburgh, both owned by the same people. One is located in the Shore near Leith, the other on Thistle Street practically in the centre of the city. This review is of the Shore establishment.

Fishers Bistro is a great little restaurant on The Shore of Leith. On my last visit I enjoyed Fisher’s own fish cakes a deliciously hearty starter, followed by langoustines with garlic butter. Both were absolutely wonderful. My dining partner enjoyed fresh mussels and then traditional sirloin. The mussels were beautifully cooked and came with a wonderful cream and wine sauce.
