Good for starters

Advantages: Good drinks and prices. Good location
Disadvantages: Heaving at weekends

...the real ale buffs - Flynns is in 3 sections. As you work up the stairs there is the main bar with stools by the window so you can look at the Tyne rushing past as you begin your journey to alcoholic oblivion. There is also a downstairs bit where there are more seats. Upstairs is a similar story. Flynns is usually quiet enough during the week to be a good place to strat a lads night out or alternatively take a companion of the opposite sex. At weekends ...
...the Bigg market. A trip to Flynns at around tea time on a Bank Holiday is also a must as it plays host to the finest examples of the Geordie stereotypes: the lairy group of lads and the scantily clad ladies all out of their heads on Whitley BAy spirit. ...

Quick review of Flynns Bar (Newcastle)

Flynns is a great student bar serving great value drinks and cocktails. I have seen some poor reviews but dont agree that its chav city - I have never even seen an argument in the bar never mind a fight!! I think Trebles for £2 is great and the atmosphere and music is good fun, plus its always pretty busy. Its a student/party bar so whats the problem with cheap drinks and having a laugh?? A lot of bars on the Quayside are serving drinks deals but thats what makes it popular. If people want to pay top dollar for drinks, in bars with no atmosphere then good luck to them! Great bar keep it up! ...

Flynnish it please

Advantages: Convenient if your "Caught Short"
Disadvantages: dingy

...& other fab new buildings, Flynns has been seriously left behind in the cool stakes. Regardless of whether I've been in with the girls on a clubbing night or in with the lads for a loud N leary beer fest, I always end up with the same opinion : that Flynn's is a dark, dingy, low roofed meat market which wouldn't be out of place in Newcastle's Bigg Market circa 1985. Admittedly they do some cheap happy hour deals, but the quality of the stuff served ...
...I'm not sure how Flynn's has managed to remain as it has when all around sems to be in a constant state of renewal. Its probably because it's conveniently located slap bang in the middle of a 3 minute hike between the next bars on either side ot if (3 minutes is a long walk in Newcastle bar crawl terms) Just as well really - seeing as the only time I go in is (A) if I'm dragged (B) gasping for a drink (C) desparate for a wee. ...

avoid at all costs

Advantages: Cheap Drinks good location
Disadvantages: very poor quality vodka, slow staff, chav central, poor managment is obvious

The management at Flynn's seem to be under the impression "build it and they will come," regardless of quality or standards. The bar is small, dated, dark, dingy and chav central. The bar only sells none brand name spirits and only in treble measures. The staff are friendly but often drunk and unhelpful. The music is average for this sort of dive. The décor has not changed in twenty years and is real need of improvement or relocation as its binge ...
...the rejuvenated quayside. The toilettes are more in keeping with the peasant areas of province at the turn of the last century. If you are looking for a good night with friendly people and nice drinks you have found the wrong place. However if you name is Sharon, you like big earrings, trebles for £2, large middle aged women dressed like porn stars and sick ankle deep you have found your true home. ...
