Advantages Advantages Great race with all the action of F1

Disadvantages Disadvantages Button should have been third

I have kept to my promise to bring you the full account of the Malaysian GP 2002 – enjoy…. It was the talking point of the Sunday morning after the Australian GP and while it was Michael Schumacher who came away with victory, it had to be Aussie Mark Webber who grabbed the hearts and headlines of the race. His stunning 5th place is more than a miracle for Minardi who have struggled to touch the top 6 since 1999 and haven’t scored 2 points since 1995. But now the circus moves north of Australia to the state of the art Sepang circuit in Malaysia, Asia. The track has only been ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very exciting race

Disadvantages Disadvantages Why does Schumi have to win so often?

As always with my F1 opinions I’ll be identifying three drivers that are heroes and three that are villains as well as a hero team and a villain team. I’ll also be giving my general opinion on the race itself. Before I start I just want to apologise if this is a little less coherent then the Melbourne review, I watched the GP with a few friends of mine and copious amounts of alcohol and food were consumed. I’m currently recovering with a vitamin pill and an Everclear CD. Anyway… the opinion. * The Results – A few missing drivers * As yet there has been no ... more

Advantages Advantages A good circuit, goos overtaking opportunities, very safe, excellent facilities.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Yet to provide an outstanding race.

(The following opinion was written prior to the 2001 Malaysian Grand Prix) The Sepang circuit in Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur sees the second round of the 2001 Formula One World Championship take place on 18th March. While the first race of the year has provided some insight into the 2001 levels of competition between teams, expect the second event to help clarify the picture considerably. It is here that the likely direction of the title battles will unfold. The Sepang circuit itself is the second newest circuit on the F1 calendar, purpose-built for introduction in 1999. The 5.5km (3.3m) ... more

Advantages Advantages Promises to be a great race

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

So after Australia's thrilling first installment in the 2003 championship race the next stop is Sepang, Malaysia. Can DC and McLaren capatilse on their winning start? Will Raikkonen secure his madien victory? Can Michael Schumacher get back to his winning ways? How bad really is that Williams? Will Jenson tell Jacques to Button it? Will the car in front of the rest be a Toyota? Just so many questions to be answered, but one thing for sure this weekend will go that bit to clear things up. So what are going to be the main factors which could influence the outcome of Sunday's race? Well that ... more

Advantages Advantages Great facilities and racing.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unpredictable weather.

Sepang circuit is on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur and is the location of the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix. When you think of Malaysia it is not a country that you would expect to be a location for an F1 race on the programme of the Grand Prix world championship events. However, the Sepang circuit has the most magnificent modern facilities with very impressive multi-level grandstands topped with canopies to protect the spectators from the searing sunlight. The heat is a major factor at this circuit as it is not unusual for temperatures to be in the mid-thirties (degrees Centigrade) and the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great circuit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages long way away

So the infamous Formula One circus has left Australia under a cloud of uncertanty. Is the sport too dangerous? Should these road courses be banned in favour of purpose built courses? Well, they dont get much more purpose built than Sepang, Malaysia. Sepang was a brand new racing complex built and completed for the season finale 2 years ago. Since then it has grown into a drivers favourite. This may be because its challenging, interesting and a good mix of high and low speed corners. It should be to their liking as the current drivers put in many hours of consultancy whe nthe design was being ... more

Brilliant.. This has to rate as one of the best purpose built circuits there is. I attended the inaugral race in 1999 and I would certainly go back again. Ok there were a few stupid things like on the first day security wouldn't allow unbrellers through the turnstiles as it was a security risk - yet you could then buy the same unbrellas on the inside from the murchandise stands. But little things like this can be put down to the fact that it was the first time that part of asia had hosted anything so big. I would suggest go for the topaz stand. Don't worry that its not on the pit straight, if ... more

Advantages Advantages The heat is gona throw it as wide open as a wet race

Disadvantages Disadvantages The team personnel are really gona suffer

I was in Malaysia last year for the race and it was unbelievably hot, the humidity is what gets to you. Luckily I was in an air-conditioned office for most of the time but most of my colleagues were not so lucky and had to stand the blistering heat. The Malaysian GP is the one race of the season that is more of a test of team personnel than anything else. Pit stops will show how well the teams can work under these conditions as will the reliability of the car, a long hot day followed by a long equally hot night will greatly increase the chances of a loose nut or bolt. Any cars with reliability ... more

Advantages Advantages Tricky corners after straights can lead to some action an hopefully more overtaking hooray

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not many corners could get frustrating for drivers

FIA have decided that the last race of the season should become 2nd. Possibly because it saves globe trotting all the way to Brazil that's usually. The very glamarous part of Malaysia seems a good place to have a Grand Prix...and what a setting. The track itself contains some straights after which follows some very tricky corners. The main problem is to decide whether to take a corner fast or slow both could end up with their problems. Too fast and you're on the grass, too slow and you'll loose time trying to rev back up to speed. There are two long straights at the end pf a lap which are ... more
