Advantages: Great transport, clean, efficient, full of character Disadvantages: They like football as much as the English
As Freiburg is still very fresh in the mind after our visit there last weekend (actually a long weekend- Thursday to Monday) it seemed appropriate to write about it.
Preconceptions
Well, oddly enough I'd never visited any part of Germany before so I didn't have that many preconceptions apart from some vague images whirling around in my head of people drinking vast amounts of beer at long tables and scoffing Black Forest Gateau (particularly as ... ...delicious.
Getting There
Freiburg is about an hour and a half's flight (plus just under an hour's bus journey) from the airports near London, which really isn't far at all. We found that a good way of getting there is to fly to Basel, which is on the French-Swiss border, and then get a special airport bus into Freiburg. The bus journey takes about 55 minutes. Be warned- the bus fare is about €32 per person for a return, which is a lot considering ...

...the summer. I have visited Freiburg twice as part of an exchange with my school, once in year 10 and the second time, more recently in year 12. Both times I fully enjoyed my experience, and although only I was only there for 7 days both times, we managed to get quite a lot out of the region, one of the highlights being the trip to the Europaprk, a theme park not too far away from the city centre.
Europapark can be reached from the main train station ... ...in Spain and Italy.
Freiburg city centre is filled with cobbled streets, Bächle (little streams) and shops, as well as the historice Münster and Schwarbentor. There is also a sandpit here, where families could take their children to ...

Advantages: Great nightlife; great university (probably); cheap lifestyle; excellent beer Disadvantages: Full of bloody Germans
Freiburg im Breisgau in Southern Germany is the hottest place in Germany in the summer, and has great weather for skiing in the winter. Tucked away in the middle of the beautiful Black Forest and surrounded by some of the northernmost Alps, Freiburg is just a hour from Basel in Switzerland and two from Strasbourg in France by train.
I spent a year studying German law in Freiburg and working as a legal translator for the Albert-Ludwigs University ... ...manager, and a Gaelic television producer.
I would heartily recommend Freiburg to anyone, whether as somewhere to study or somewhere to work one summer, but don't just stay a few weeks - sit back and enjoy one of the most beautiful and exciting places that Germany has to offer! ...

...was lucky enough to visit Freiburg just under a year ago and I fell in love with the place. It is a reasoanbly small village in the south east of Germany right next to the Black Forest and it is so picturesque it is unblievable!
I had been invited to stay there as part of an exchange my college was running and when my future partner to be sent me a book of Freiburg I didn't believe it could possibly look as wondeful as it did in the book, but it ... ...take a shopping trip round all the open-air markets and down the little side streets.
