I started looking and planning my Gap year last year and at the time i was surprised how many websites appeared when you type Gap year into a search engine. But among the several thousand that apeared Gapyear.com came up. I have never had a gap year!! I don't think they had been 'invented' when I was 18, and anyway I was nearly 29 before I went to university. However, I did spend 3.5 years in Zambia as a VSO volunteer after having qualified as a nurse. VSO will only take people who are professionally qualified and have a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience. In other words...people who go out as VSO volunteers have something to offer the people they go ...
