Advantages: Superb accomodation. Brilliant food. Excellent facilities. VERY friendly owners. Disadvantages: Not a thing!
~ ~ One of the problems of going on holiday is you can never be 100% sure that the accommodation you have booked is going to live up to expectations.
The Internet has improved things, because now you can log on and check out your selected hotel or guesthouse before you actually part with any hard earned dosh. (Well, most of the time anyway)
~ ~ But even then you can be caught out, if the hotel is slightly less than ethical, and portrays itself ... ...reality.
We got badly caught out in 2001, when a hotel we booked as part of a package holiday in Tuscany, Italy, turned out to be only slightly better than a pokey wee bedsitter.
So the mad cabbie was determined that the same mistake would not reoccur in 2002, on the family holiday to Kitzbuhel in the Austrian Tyrol.
We checked out all the travel agents, and eventually decided on Inghams, a UK based company. ~ ~ Next up was to check out the different ...

Advantages: spectacular scenery, history and culture, great people, good food Disadvantages: crowded in July and August, in winter during X-mas
Everybody has heard of the pop-stars Falco and DJ Ötzi, the great composers Mozart and Haydn, has seen the film on the Trapp family, "The Sound of Music", has seen the great mountainside when skiing in winter or hiking in summer, everybody has his clichés on this small country in the heart of Europe…
Yes, I do know, that there was this governor of the province of Carinthia by the name of J. Haider, whose racist comments have found their way ... ...declining fast and the party which he used to lead has proven that they can do without him when looking back at almost two years of successful political work in a coalition with the conservatives.
So, what else is there about Austria: well, lots of history and I mean it. The Hapsburgs have ruled it for six centuries and influenced the culture of central and eastern Europe. You will think about them when visiting Schönbrunn Palace or the Hofburg ...

Advantages: Diversity Disadvantages: You might find Austrians a bit stand offish
Austria is a country that I have fallen in love with, ever since I was plunged headlong into a valley to be an English Teacher (although the way I describe it here, makes it sound more like a bungie jump!) Most people know very little about Austria, other than having heard of Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbrück, and having heard of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nikki Lauda, Sachertorte and anti-freeze in wine. That was until February 2000, when Jörg Haider's ... ...government. Overnight the country was made into a pariah by the EU, and whilst sanctions have been removed, the threat of Haider still remains.
In the West, in the Vorarlberg, the Tirol and Salzburgerland, Austria boasts some of Europe's finest skislopes, with world class resorts, including St Anton and Saalbach-Hinterglemm, not to mention Innsbrück, twice an Olympic Games host. Salzburg is right on the border with Germany and is probably known ...

Austria is an attractive country. It is difficult to find unattractive bits but Linz is a rather industrial city on the Danube. If skiing is not your cup of tea the summer is probably the best time to visit the Alpine areas. Cheap acc. is plentiful then. The walking is excellent and the chair lifts are fun and take the toil out of hiking. It can rain a lot in the Tirol in August however. Salzburg is an interesting city with some v. nice beers and ...

Advantages: Great scenery, Great Food Disadvantages: None
Do you like fresh air, mountain views, long walks or skiing then this is the place for you. Austria is one of those places which in many ways hasn't changed for years. The locals are friendly (usually) and very hospitable and the food makes an interesting change from your normal English style resorts. Its a great place for interesting soups - you probably would not believe the things they serve up in beef stock. And of course is a great place to ...

Advantages: Very quite and was able to get a good rest Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere and could be difficult to get to
Zuus is a small village located in Austria. We stayed here for one night for an overnight stay. I must say that the accommodation was excellent. We had a massive room which had a double bed in a sitting area and a kitchen. We paid £25.00 each and this included breakfast. in my opion this is a bargin and would reccomend this to anyone thinking of staying for a short amount of time in Austria. The Village it's self was very pretty and had many vine ...

Advantages: You can leave Disadvantages: The people, the political situation,...
I have left England when I was 3 years old, now I have been living in Austria for 8 years!
The Country:
In the West, Vorarlberg, Tirol and Salzburg (where Mozart was from) there are lot's of mountains. Nice places to go skiing, but that's all you can do! Switzerland is a lot better for skiing!
The people:
The most people think that the Austrians are some jodling men in leather pants. Some of them are. But the most are nationalist fools, witch ... ...drinking alcohol all day! The most Austrians are racists!
The politics:
Everybody knows about Jörg Haider! He is the typical Austrian, and he knows what the Austrians want; beer. On every FPÖ-Party there is free beer. Today (03-25-2001) there are elections in Vienna. One of the Candidates of Jörg Haiders FPÖ was seen coming out of a girls-girls-girls club and said he was only controlling the safety! This Party is getting about 20%!!! I saw Haider ...
