A GLIMPSE AT BANGKOK
Review of General: Bangkok by
NATI
Advantages: a totally different culture
Disadvantages: can be too hot
BANGKOK
INTRODUCTION
I decided to visit Bangkok following recommendations from friends and family. However, as you can imagine, not everyone agreed that it was a safe place to go, particularly as I went with another female. Many family members thought that this was a bad idea and that two females alone in Thailand, particularly Bangkok would be preyed upon by the locals. However, they couldn't have been more wrong. I visited Bangkok for 10 days ...

4 days in Thailand
Review of General: Bangkok by
u103177
Advantages: Great food, very relaxing, exciting culture
Disadvantages: Never know if you are being ripped off
4 days in Thailand
On 17 April this year I, and 3 friends, stopped over in Thailand on our way to Australia. We spent 4 days in Thailand and this Review is designed to be helpful for anyone who has the same aim as we did – de-stress very quickly at the beginning of a holiday. We started off in Bangkok and moved quickly to Ko Samui.
***Arrival***
I won’t bother you with details of the flight too much – I’m sure I can Review airlines elsewhere. ...

Bangkok - What a Shock
Review of General: Bangkok by
Redhead
Advantages: See op
Disadvantages: See op
My boyfriend & I visited Bangkok for 3 days before moving onto Bali & then Hong Kong (in October last year). Out of the 3 destinations Bangkok was by far our favourite, Bangkok was so much fun, a very busy city but lots to do.
We arrived on the first night at about 9pm. What I seemed to notice first was the amount of stray dogs! We went past literally hundreds of dogs in the way to our hotel & none seemed to have homes, though they didn't look ...

First stop on the tour
Review of General: Bangkok by
Mercury
Advantages: Cheap, interesting sites, a stepping stone to the rest of Thailand
Disadvantages: Oppressive pollution and exploitative sex industry which seems all pervading.
As many of you know I have recently thrown off the shackles of work and responsibility for the eminently more sensible pursuit of fun and freedom or to be more specific I've headed off on a year long round the world trip. Whilst this limits my use of the Ciao site I've decided to try and post opinions on the various destinations that I visit whenever possible. On this note I should point out that my budget is modest in the extreme so my opinions are ...

Beautiful Bangkok
Review of General: Bangkok by
ickkate
Advantages: Beautiful people, beautiful city.
Disadvantages: Being hassled by Tuk Tuk drivers, and being told attractions were closed.
Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, and is probably most famous for its imprisonment of Westerners bringing drugs into the country, ladyboys and prostitution. Bangkok is also a beautiful city, where thankfully, my friend and I only witnessed one of the above!
Although we loved it immediately, a lot of people hate the city when they first arrive. It is probably best to spend your first night in Bangkok, travel around the country, and return ...

Krung Thep,City of Angels
Review of General: Bangkok by
ashford
Advantages: Exotic,Wonderful Temples.Cheap, Good Food, Good Hotels
Disadvantages: Terrible traffic,Noisy, Language difficulties
The Thais know it as Krung Thep - City of Angels; we know it as Bangkok. But whatever name is used, this sprawling metropolis is one of Asia's most captivating cities. It's pretty safe, friendly and easy to explore, although the traffic can be terrible- and that is an understatement- and the constant hustle more than a bit wearing.
To escape the choked streets, a Bangkok-based British-born friend give this advice "travel by boat." I think he's ...

Things To Do In Bangkok When You're Dead Tired
Review of General: Bangkok by
BNibbles
Advantages: A good place to break the OZ/UK flight
Disadvantages: Traffic and fumes
Whilst returning from Sydney recently, I had occasion to make a three-day lay-over in Bangkok. If you have read my opinion on long-haul flights/DVT etc, you will know that I’m not a great fan of flying, in economy class, at least. One day…….oh well, I can dream.
The journey from the airport to my admittedly rather nice hotel, was a real eye-opener. The traffic in Bangkok is truly appalling and makes London’s look quite civilised. ...

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Review of General: Bangkok by
MRS.CANADA
Advantages: There are some nice places in this City.
Disadvantages: I found it dirty.
I had so many exotic Books and saw a few Movies about Bangkok, Thailand I was trilled when I was invited to go on a FAM, (a trip for Travel Agent to learn about a City or Country), that I could hardly wait until it was time to leave.
We flew from Edmonton, Alberta to meet the rest of our group in Vancouver, B.C. We were guests of JAL and flew to Narita Airport. Our plane did not connect so we stayed at a Hotel near the Airport. The following day ...

Transport in Bangkok
Review of General: Bangkok by
indiecater
Advantages: Cheap, Never Boring, Lots Of Choices.
Disadvantages: Fumes, Chaos & Boredom.
Bangkok is a city that tends to have longer rush hours than others. On some days rush hour becomes rush afternoon and on occasions stretches into rush evening as well. With these chaotic forces conspiring against you none of the modes of transport available in Bangkok are likely to be a better choice so your decision is likely to be open to chaos. Here is a rundown of the choices available in no particular order.
Taxi
In the early nineties ...

Bluffers Guide to Bangkok
Review of General: Bangkok by
rory_b_bellows
Advantages: friendly, cheap, buzzing
Disadvantages: dirty, traffic
Bangkok is a big culture shock to anyone used to the comforts of the Western world.
You either love it or hate it here; people end up staying two weeks or two hours. I lived in Bangkok for 6 months, so I thought I’d do a bluffers guide to the city. You’ll be a native in no time.
Firstly the Airport. Don Muang International is a pretty modern affair with quick check in and baggage reclaim. The queues at passport control can be bad at ...

Bangkok a different must see world
Review of General: Bangkok by
ruthpern
Advantages: A lot of things to do that will not break the bank
Disadvantages: The roads are a nightmare
I first went to Bangkok in April 2004, for the purpose of meeting a wife. I know what you all think, the typical mail-order bride, but it’s not like that, as but lady makes the final decision, but I side track.
I stayed in the Swiss Park Hotel, located in Sukhumvit Sol 11. The hotel itself is clean and commutable and reasonably priced, it has 108 rooms, each with on-suite bath and shower, TV (with some English channels) and min-bar. There is also ...

Bangkok and loving it
Review of General: Bangkok by
daleyboy
Advantages: Wow everything and anything for sale and to do
Disadvantages: very very very bad traffic
Well where do you start? That is the same question you will ask yourself when you step out of the airport into the unrelenting heat.
Taxi first, you either pay 50 baht about 70p to the taxi booth then the taxi charge on top of that OR you go upstairs to departures and wait for a taxi dropping someone off then jump in and save yourself 50 baht, or you go out to the main road and jump in one there. Unlike the U.K everyone uses taxis and i personally ...

4 days in Bangkok in Feb 2006 through Thomas Cook
Review of General: Bangkok by
alimcc21
Advantages: lots to do, friendly, good value for money, easy to get around, cultural, lovely hotels
Disadvantages: they're desperate to get your money by any means, humid, smelly
I'd heard such different things about this place before I went. A friend of my boyfriend's went for 2 weeks by herself and absolutely loved everything about it. But everyone else who had been said 3 or 4 days was more than enough. Then there was my manager who was only there as a stop off between flights and he absolutely hated it.
I was met by a Thomas Cook rep at the airport and taken to my hotel in a private car, which apparently is standard ...

Bangkok dangers
Review of General: Bangkok by
medialine2k
Advantages: safe if you're careful, cheap, good food
Disadvantages: pollution, traffic congestion
Having spent several years in Bangkok I've come across several dangers to the unwary traveller. One such crime sometimes reported in the news involves lone arrivals at Bangkok airport.
You arrive at Bangkok Airport late at night. A friendly guy (not Thai) approaches and suggests sharing a taxi into town. You accept, assuming that he too has just arrived in Thailand, and genuinely wants to share a taxi. You go outside the terminal and he waves a nearby ...
