Advantages: Cheap, interesting sites, a stepping stone to the rest of Thailand
Disadvantages: Oppressive pollution and exploitative sex industry which seems all pervading.

Disadvantages: Being hassled by Tuk Tuk drivers, and being told attractions were closed.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, and is probably most famous for its imprisonment of Westerners bringing drugs into the country, ladyboys and prostitution. Bangkok is also a beautiful city, where thankfully, my friend and I only witnessed one of the above! Although we loved it immediately, a lot of people hate the city when they first arrive. Whilst returning from Sydney recently, I had occasion to make a three-day lay-over in Bangkok. If you have read my opinion on long-haul flights/DVT etc, you will know that I’m not a great fan of flying, in economy class, at least. One day…….oh well, I can dream. I first went to Bangkok in April 2004, for the purpose of meeting a wife. Advantages: Wow everything and anything for sale and to do
Disadvantages: very very very bad traffic

Well where do you start? That is the same question you will ask yourself when you step out of the airport into the unrelenting heat. Taxi first, you either pay 50 baht about 70p to the taxi booth then the taxi charge on top of that OR you go upstairs to departures and wait for a taxi dropping someone off then jump in and save yourself 50 baht, or you go out to the main road and jump in one there. I'd heard such different things about this place before I went. A friend of my boyfriend's went for 2 weeks by herself and absolutely loved everything about it.
