A very cool laid back town, fantastic friendly locals with an influx of "dudes" from all over. Where is it: Approx 3 hours drive South of Calgary in British Columbia in the Canadian Rockies. It is an easy drive and straightforward to find. Just before Fernie, you pass Sparwood, where you can see "Titan" the biggest truck in the world! I have just returned from staying in the Chateau Whistler hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. It is more expensive than many other hotels but at about £120 for the room which is spacious and can easily accommodate four I thought it was excellent value. The hotel's public areas and bedrooms are beautifully furnished , the pools are lovely (complimentary sun cream and iced water at the poolside), the tennis courts are free and not often used and ...

I have recently spent three weeks in British Columbia and Alberta with my husband and two teenage kids. One of our favourite destinations was Whistler, proving that it is not just a winter destination. Although it is possible to ski on the glacier (an hour away from the main resort) we decided to give this a miss as we were told that it was just a mass of frozen slush. I have spent the 1999-2000 ski season is Whistler and can see why it has consistently been voted the best ski resort in North America by several ski and snowboard magazines. Tofino is a small village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Water surrounds the village in three sides and on the eastern side, old growth forests beckon from across the sound. There are good places to stay in the village and a number of options for fishing, sightseeing and whalewatching.
