Fancy skiing in the Med? You can here.

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, warm climate, nice beaches
Disadvantages: Not suitable for children, local drivers are a little 'manic'

Cyprus is one of my favourite holiday destinations. Golden sandy beaches, clear blue sea, warm relaxing climate and snow. SNOW? Yes snow! I will explain about the white stuff (no, I don't mean the British tourists) later in the review, but meanwhile I would like to share with you the reasons why I find this beautiful island such a great place to visit. *** Firstly, a little background information on Cyprus *** The island of Cyprus is situated in ...
...Sicily and Sardinia. Without going into too much laborious information on the history of the island, very briefly, Cyprus has been governed under two separate rules since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974 - Northern Cyprus is currently under Turkish occupation and Southern Cyprus is currently under Greek occupation. There have been numerous attempts at a reconciliation between the Turks and the Greeks in order to make the island 'whole' ...

The Best of Both Worlds

Advantages: Loads to see and wonderful locals
Disadvantages: Tourism has ruined some of its charm

Cyprus is one of the very few countries in the world that is between two continents - in this case, Europe and Asia. For thousands of years this island in the eastern Mediterranean has absorbed influences from many different cultures, from Hellenic to Byzantine. With such a rich history, blue skies, varied scenery and large choice of resorts, it's no wonder that this is such a popular destination for holidaymakers. During our introduction meeting ...
...think pretty much sums up holidaying in Cyprus. 'If all you want to do is lie around all day and sunbathe, then you should save yourself two hours’ flight and go to Spain.' Why was she telling us this? Because quite frankly it's absolutely true - Cypriot culture is so rich, and there's so much to see, that there is no point coming to the island if you're not going to have enough respect to get to know the place rather than just its sunloungers. ...

And a Brilliant Time Was Had By All

Advantages: Too numerous to mention !
Disadvantages: To little time to see and go everywhere in one trip.

If India was regarded as "The Jewel in the Crown" then I feel that Cyprus should be called the "Jewel of the Mediterranean"! If you have not visited this near-perfect holiday destination,in my humble estimation, then I suggest that you seriously consider a visit soon. For those of us in the U.K., Cyprus is a relatively close spot to get to in Europe and at about 4 to 5 hours flying time it`s not a very arduous flight. You`ll land either at Larnaka ...
...the south-west depending upon where your eventual resort is located but don`t expect to fly into Nicosia, Although it is the island`s capital, the international airport there has been closed for many years following the Turkish invasion and in fact, the cease-fire line dividing the Turkish occupied north from the free south goes right through the old airport. This division of the island is merely a line on the map for most tourists , however if ...

island for all seasons

Advantages: beautiful island, beach, culture, friendly locals
Disadvantages: none

Clear blue skies, golden beaches and turquoise seas, is what springs to mind when I think of Cyprus. As well as, rich culture and colourful traditions. Cyprus is a wonderful Island to visit. It's located on in the far eastern corner of the Mediterranean, at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and Asia. It's the third largest island in the Mediterranean. There are 6 major towns in Cyprus: Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Kyrenia and Famagusta. Nicosia ...
...status for 1000 years since the 10th century. There are many things to see in this city from museums, beautifully carved churches and theatres. The Municipal Theatre is one to see. It's used for the performances by the Cyprus Theatrical Organisation, musical concerts and recitals, dance performances and for various ceremonies. Limassol is the islands largest seaside resort. The town has a fun-loving reputation and the best nightlife on the island. ...

Love's Island An ex resident's view

Advantages: Rich history, beautiful food, excellent scenery, brilliant beaches...
Disadvantages: None

Cyprus birthplace of Aphrodite (or Venus), the god of love. What could be a more romantic place to holiday? I was raised for 12 years of my life in Cyprus, and miss it desperately. It is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean just north of Egypt and west of Greece. It is fairly small and all parts of the island (Greek half) are reachable with ease. Filled with amazing beaches, if you have a hire car there is no reason that you should be stuck in ...
...drive away. The History: The island's history is incredibly diverse; originally Greek, there is evidence of this all over the island. There is an amphitheatre near Paphos and excellently well-preserved Roman ruins everywhere containing mosaics of intricate detail. As a child I played on these mosaics but they are now protected . All over the country are monastries, castles and churches of roman and Greek origin, everywhere you turn are items of historical ...

The Island Of Romance

Advantages: Good weather, lots to see and do
Disadvantages: Overpowering heat in high season

The island of Cyprus has been divided between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots since 1974 and so my opinion covers only the Southern(Greek part). It is often referred to as the island of Aphrodite (the goddess of love). My experience of the island comes from both working over there and going on holiday. So if you keep finding reviews written on different parts of the island, don't be surprised. GENERAL It really is an island that caters ...
...may even be able to manage a little skiing! There is a range of accommodation and restaurants to suit all pockets. I have seen the island in all seasons and would suggest that May and October are really the perfect times to go. You will be guaranteed sun and will also find that the heat is overpowering. If you have to go in July and August, airconditioning is advisable. Similarly, from November through to April make sure the haccomodation has central ...

Limassol, Cyprus. The Place to go.

Advantages: People are friendly, and helpful. Cheap when you get there.
Disadvantages: Expensive to get there. More than Greek Islands.

I loved Cyprus from the moment we stepped off of the aeroplane. About 12 years ago my family decided they wanted a last minute break. We had always been to France and Spain for our holidays but my parents fancied something different. They had heard about Cyprus and were lucky enough to book cheap last minute holiday for us all. We booked on the Saturday and went on the Wednesday. When we got there the apartments we were staying in (The Drakos) were ...
...of their way to help us with whatever we wanted. They speak very good English over there and drive on the left hand side of the road too. Great if you decide to hire a car. Limassol is mainly on one very long main road. With Apartments extra mainly on one side and the beach on the other. Lots of crossings though so not a problem. The beach is dark volcanic sand but just as nice as any other beach, with a beach bar and beachside restaurant with lovely ...

A holiday haven

Advantages: clean, friendly and great value for money.
Disadvantages: The main touristy areas can be concrete cities.

Pissouri lies inbetween Paphos and Limmasol roughly 20 mins away from Paphos airport. It is very easy to get to as it is on the main Paphos to Limmasol road. Cyprus has everything a tourist of any age could want. For the young and lively there is paphos and ayia napa, these have club and pubs galore they open late and the drink is relatively cheap. In paphos the nightlife can be found on one street and is not in the centre, the taverns on the seafront ...
...Cyprus is cheap, and is therefore suitable for a holiday on a budget. The beaches are clean and very inviting. Sunbeds are always available for hire at the cost of 1 cyprus pound each. If your after sightseeing there is numerous options open, car hire is reasonable and is a very good way of exploring the island, I would recommend that people hire a car which has a bigger engine as the steep hills might prove a test for some cars. Petrol is cheap, ...

Protaras paradise

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, good restaurants and cheap shopping
Disadvantages: None

I went to Cyprus for the first time in 1998 with my fiance, just prior to our wedding. It was the last week in June and we got the holiday for a very reasonable price because it was the week of the world cup and the travel agents were trying to persuade people to leave their televisions behind and take a break. We stayed in the Melini self catering Apartments which were really nice and we had a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. Most of the hotels ...
...priced supermarkets near the hotel and a great variety of restaurants offering fixed price meals. I had heard that Cyprus was expensive but I found it very reasonable. Having worked as a holiday rep in the past I prefer not to book my excursions through them as it's cheaper to find a local agent. There were plenty of travel agents on the main street and we managed to book trips to the Trodos Mountains, Nicosia and Paphos for approximately £9 each. ...

THE GUILTY SHOPPER

Advantages: so much to see you will want to visit again
Disadvantages: you might not want to go home

OK you have me. This is my guilty pleasure. I enjoy travelling. The cultures of the lands interest me, and I always enjoy exploring the islands. My favorite has to be Cyprus. I have now visited this beautiful island twice. Firstly to Limassol with my husband and youngest daughter a few years ago, and then again, last year with my older daughter, and my grandchildren to Paphos. Cyprus is in the mediterranean, and is the 3rd largest of the islands, ...
...the island became divided, and there are borders at Nicosia . I visited the area of Nicosia on a coach trip, and It was here that I was able to view the total distruction of such a pretty island. Standing on a small platform looking out towards what had once been a whole town area. Rubble everywhere, a ghost town. Using binoculars, in the distance you could just about make out the abandoned cars, looking like they came from about the 60's era. The ...

The Island of Discoveries...

Advantages: an island with a vast history that indulges the best of the mediterannean in one area
Disadvantages: The excessive heat in the summer months.

Although the island has been divided since 1974 the Greek Cypriot population has made do with what was left after the invasion. The six main regions are easily split into Lefkosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Protaras/Agia Napa and the Troodos Mountains. Each area with its own idiosyncrasies, little twists and perculiarities. Lefkosia embraces the old and the new, with the old 'Laiki Geitonia' town within the 600year old Venetian walls surrounded ...

A closer look reveals real treasures of interest including The Archbishopric, the Green Line, Famagusta Gate, Municipal Gardens, the Athalassa Forest on the outskirts of Lefkosia, Agios Ioannis cathedral and the old Omeriye Mosque within the walls. Some choice night spots include the old city's Arhondiko taverna, clubs like Gate ...

Are you a clubber sunbather or sightseer

Advantages: Amazing beaches, friendly locals
Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive

I have traveled to Cyprus 4 times and I love it more every time i go back. It is a country that suits all interests. I first went with my family, and being a keen traveler as you can tell from my other reviews, I wanted to see the whole Island. We hired a car and my dad and I shared the driving ( an experience in itself) and managed in our two week stay to see most of the island, as half of the island is occupied by the Turks and is inaccessible ...
...normally you could only get to by organised trip however my dad managed to get our little corsa around the windy roads and we reached the top, where the strangest thing happened to me. I met someone who I went to school with years ago, how strange that should happen at the highest point in Cyprus. We also visited Aphrodrites baths which to me seemed like a rock!! Im sure some people would find that interesting? The shopping in Cyprus is also paradise ...

Not just Ayia Napa

Advantages: prices, scenery, people, beaches
Disadvantages: heat, roads, half of island under turkish occupation

Although Ayia Napa has become increasingly popular as an alternative Ibiza, Cyprus has many more cities across the island that caters for clubbers and partygoers in less of a commercialised manner. Paphos and Limassol are also tourist hotspots and are great towns for going out in although there is a lot more in Cyprus than usual holiday islands. The beaches and watersports are amazing around the island but not too far away from the coast are the ...

Cyprus in July

Advantages: Visit this place
Disadvantages: None

Visiting Cyprus in July, at peak summer is ..what's the word..very, very, very hot. I was there last year and got burned in the sun. Could not get an air conditioned car for hire. Water is a precious commodity. The good thing is that the island is small. You can drive to the sea in any direction (i was based in Nicosia). It worked out to be quite an expensive holiday of around £1200 for 2 persons including car hire (w/o aircon, no radio.cassette), ...

This was really a good place to go to. It is located at the centre of Cyprus. The atmospere gets cooler at you reach the highest peaks in Cyprus which are accessible by road. In the Trodos Mountains, do not miss the Ancient Monastery of Kykkos. This is a beautiful piece of human ...

Alternative to Ayia Napa

Advantages: Not as busy as neighbouring resort Ayia Napa
Disadvantages: Can't think of any really................

Five minutes down the road from Ayia Napa is the town of Protoras. This is a fab town with quite a nightlife of it's own. Plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from including the Only Fools and Horses bar which we loved. They are all reasonably priced aswell and everything is in walking distance. (Our friends stayed there and we were very jealous to say the least) And the diving is great. You can qualify for your PADI license and go on many great dives including cave dives and an infamous wreck ...
