Advantages Advantages Everything transport food shopping sight seeing....

Disadvantages Disadvantages Disneyland Hong Kong please avoid

I have had the opportunity of visiting Hong Kong twice in my relatively short lifetime. I first visited when I was around nine years of age and the experience seemed to pass me by extremely quickly. However my second visit to Hong Kong at the age of fifteen was a genuine life changing experience, realising the destination where I desired to live and work. My mother and her family are Chinese and returning to their Homeland was an emotional experience. Nothing I have ever done in sixteen years on planet Earth has affected me more than my visit in the summer of 2007. The city of Hong Kong is one ... more

Hong Kong. Place of dreams, and somewhere I have had the privilege of visiting just recently. No doubt everyone has heard someone they know rave about the sights and sounds of Hong Kong, which are probably unique to the world. But what really hit me were the smells. In Hong Kong, even the most devoted city dweller will begin to feel claustrophobic. The skyscrapers lean in on you from every side, and the drivers believe the roads are their personal possessions, and woe betide anyone who tries to steal their space. And overhanging all of this is the smell. Out in the streets, walking along the ... more

Advantages Advantages good shopping, lovely food & people.

Disadvantages Disadvantages hot, humid, dirty, rainy, costly

Hong Kong is a wonderful city filled with friendly people lots to see and do. However, the sub-tropical location makes this city hot and humid most of the year. You either love this or hate it. Ok, what makes this city such an interesting place? There are several factors that combine to make this a unique city and a great place to visit. How many places do you know where you can find an inviting westernised city in a communist country where coming and going is as easy as getting on or off an aeroplane? One must keep in mind that since the turn over of Hong Kong from British rule back to ... more

Advantages Advantages Interesting and lots to see.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Seemed like a humid London to me.

I have just come back from Hong Kong. I travelled out to Asia with work, starting in Tokyo, then onto Hong Kong for two weekends in between spending my working week in China. I'm sure this will sound very negative and people will strongly disagree with me, but I was not impressed with Hong Kong. I won't say that I didn't like the place, but perhaps my timing was bad, coming directly from Tokyo, which was a fantastic place (please see Tokyo opinion), plus having experienced Singapore a couple of years ago, HK was not a comparable place. When I arrived in Hong Kong I was met by a limousine taxi ... more

Advantages Advantages You can haggle more or less anywhere, fantastic views, cheap goods, good transport system

Disadvantages Disadvantages No cosumer rights, durian fruits(!), humid

I've only been to Hong Kong thrice in my life (only?!) but the most memorable time was the November of 2001. This was due to a few factors such as i was 18 at the time (the last times I went I was 9 and then again when I was 11) and I went predominantly for my cousin's wedding. Hong Kong is usually very hot throughout the entire year. This is good news for all you lobsters out there! But seriously folks, here's the main points of interest: (SHOPPING) There are many market stalls in hong kong, which sell a broad range of souvenirs and clothes. Believe it or not, it's actually cheaper to buy new ... more

I come from Hong Kong half a year ago. Born there and live for so long time, I know the city quite well. If I were a tourist to Hong Kong, I must love it and found it fantastic. Let me introduce some attractive characteristics: Like shopping? The shops and department stores in Hong Kong open 7 days a week including holiday like Christmas and Easter. Unlike here in Britain where you could hardly shop after 5pm, shops in Hong Kong close late at night, can be as late as 10-11pm. If you are not tired, you can go to the 'women street' in Mongkok, or the 'Temple Street' in Yaumatei (also near ... more

    Advantages Advantages 24 hour non-stop city !

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can get expensive

Hong Kong - there’s nowhere else like it. It’s a place you will either love or hate. The dramatic skyline that Hong Kong is (in)famous for is only a part of the place. If you venture out of Central District in Hong Kong to Stanley or the New Territories the difference could not be more marked. Stanley is a market where you can buy handicrafts, pictures, silks and virtually anything else. If you decide to head off north in to the New Territories you will find yourself in rural China ! ! ! Hong Kong is well known for it’s shopping and for electronics try the Fortress chain of shops. There are ... more

Hong Kond is a definate must on your list of places to visit in your lifetime, it is an amazing place with a very strange mix between the western and far eastern cultures. Spaghetti is boiled and then fried in a Wok for 30 seconds before serving and McDonalds is bang smack in the middle of a concrete park - not sure they understood the concept of a park!! Shopping is whole new experience in Hong Kong, the markets are there for you to learn to barter if you accept the first price offered to you the vendor will always looked shocked - Stanley Market must be visited as must the Jade markets. Hong Kong and the new territories is a small part of china yet houses a population of several million. It is an amazing place where there is lots to see and do.......and one of the good things about Hong Kong is that most things (road names, maps etc.) are written in both Chinese and English, making it very tourist friendly. In addition, many people can speak English as well so you don’t have to reach for your Chinese phrase book. 1) Food - Food is very cheap here and there are places to eat almost everywhere you go. For international comparison, a typical chinese meal at a restaurant ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly, Lively, The Shopping, "What You Want When You Want It", 24x7 City

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Crowds, Humidity

The first time I went on holiday to Hong Kong I was 13 years old and i immediately fell in love with this lively, vibrant city. The bright lights, the endless choice in shopping and the exception food all helped to colour my judgement. 25 years later I went back there to work, fully expecting to hate the city with it's crowds and looking at it with an adults eyes. I even believed that it would have changed greatly because it was not under British colonial rule. How wrong I was! Within 36 hours of landing there I was back in love with the city, my only regret was that I was there to work. 18 ... more
