Macau - does not look like part of China

Advantages: sweet, cute little island, a lot of touristic sites
Disadvantages: vast empty areas

Macau is an island that is now part of China and was handed over by the Portuguese quite recently. This island does not remind me of mainland China at all, something like Hong Kong is so different too. Macau is a warm island and is very small. We arrived by plane though you can also get there by ship. I wasn't very impressed with the first impression i got of it but it grew on me little by little. While driving to the hotel it just looked like a ...
...hot, flat and dry. Eventually we got to our hotel. The airport was apparently quite far away from the city. Well once in the city it was a quaint little town. It was so cute and colonial. The population didn't all speak mandarin but many spoke some Portuguese and thus with my latin routes i was able to understand some of it. What really impressed me was the religious side to the island. Since the Portuguese had had rule over this island for so long, ...

a place for gambling

Advantages: famous casino
Disadvantages: try out your luck

Macau is famous for its casino more than its scenical points. Many people from Hong Kong just go there for gambling. Many tourist will transit from HK to Macau for 1-2 days when they visit Asia. The transport from Hong Kong to Macau is very convenient and cheap. It costs about 12 pounds and takes 1-2 hours by boat. There is also transport from China (Zhuhai). Of course you can take the helicoper from HK which takes you to Macau in 15 minutes as long ...
...centralized. Once you get off the pier, free hotel transport bus and van are availabe. You don't have to pay for it or to stay in that hotel. Just get on any of the bus and it will take you to the central area FREE! Most hotels locate in the central area near casinos and some hotels run their own casino. If you ask somebody about 'Po King' (Chinese pronunciation of the most famous casino), anybody can tell you where it is. This is the selling point ...

beautiful island

Advantages: architecture
Disadvantages:

Like most people, I went to Macau from Hong Kong on a ferry. It is very easy and accessible. Macau was so much nicer from Hong Kong. Maybe it is much smaller and less activities, but the architecture was so beautiful. The buildings were very colourful: pink, green, blue, yellow. I felt as though I was in a fairy tale. I guess this might be the colonial architecture. The atmosphere is much more laid back than that of HOng Kong. There are some excellent ...
