Advantages: Cheap to get to, friendly people, lovely historic old towns Disadvantages: A local pathological obsession with bread
'''INTRODUCTION'''
It was 14 years ago that I boarded a plane to Amsterdam for a weekend trip which would be the first time I'd been on a plane since I was 3. Having recently landed a job where I was asked if I minded international travel, I thought I'd better take a crash course in foreign travel, and accompanied by my sister here I was on my way. Having been half scared to death by the noise and momentum of the jet engines on take off, and equally ... ...I'd arrived, it was a crash course indeed. And I hadn't even been to the red light district yet. Fast forward to the present day, and about half my working life has been spent abroad in one way or another, so they weren't joking about the travel. And here I find myself again in the Netherlands, but this time way off the beaten track, to the South in a small town called Breda. These days I find myself idly amused by plane take offs and equally unfazed ...

The Netherlands
I’ll say up front, I’m a fan. I really like the Netherlands, enjoy visiting there and generally think it’s a pretty cool place. It’s not always been the case, the first time I visited it thought it was no better than okay.
Amsterdam.
It must be said the first time I ventured to the Netherlands it was only on a day trip to Amsterdam. I didn’t have enough time there to formulate a proper opinion; well you wouldn’t when you are clocking ... ...would you? The main thing I learned from that trip is that Amsterdam is not really a ‘morning place’; I didn’t really come to life until after lunchtime.
At the time the Easyjet flights from my nearest international airport (Liverpool) made Amsterdam a much cheaper option to visit than London – what a strange world we live in. Easyjet still operate from Liverpool to Amsterdam and arriving at Schipol airport its hard not to be impressed with the ...

Advantages: best chips in the world, great mussles Disadvantages: no national cuisine whatsoever
The Netherlands are not really famous for good food (rightly so), but I have lived and dined there for several years, and survived. Lacking a typical Dutch cuisine, Holland is full of international restaurants. But it does have some things going for it: Dutch chips are legendary, and in some parts of the country you can even find gourmet restaurants. Here comes my culinary guide to Holland.

BEER: Heineken and Amstel are often perceived as competitors, but Amstel is actually a brand of Heineken Corp., as is Murphy's Irish Stout. Although Heineken and Amstel are among the world's most famous lagers and available in any tourist destination on the globe, ...

Advantages: Interesting towns, great nature reserves and many attractions Disadvantages: Very quiet off season
The Netherlands are the lowest of the low.....Low Countries that is, and the Delta region is the lowest area of them all. This review is about three towns we visited when we were there earlier this year: VEERE, MIDDLEBURG and SLUIS. * VEERE - a Scottish enclave *
As the town has historical links with Scotland and is in fact twinned with CULROSS in Fife, we just had to pay it a

Advantages: Not far from England, English widely spoken, good public transport, friendly. Disadvantages: Unpredictable climate
I've been travelling to Holland for holidays for 15 years. I love the country. It's friendly, good value for money, there's plenty to do, and the different cities have their own distinct character.
The capital is, of course, Amsterdam. Plenty to do here apart from sex and drugs. There are decent restaurants (try some away from the main tourist areas. Good international, cheap eating in De Pijp area). Bars are, of course, lively. There are pretty ... ...some great markets Noordermarkt/Westermarkt (monday) Albert Cuypstraat (daily) Waterlooplein(daily). Trams are easy to use - buy a Strippenkaart to get around. Don't forget the Anne Frank Huis (arrive early to avoid queues). The Red Light area is safe, but watch your bags, and do NOT take photographs - the ladies object very strongly.
I have reviewed Rotterdam separately. Also worth visiting: Den Haag (seat of government) , Delft (pretty, visit ...

Advantages: Easy access, calm city Disadvantages: none
Tilburg received its city rights by Napoleon’s brother, when it was a mere street or two, unpaved, a few farms… Now, Tilburg is a blooming city with a few shopping centres, a variety of hotels and motels, and a city centre where the highstreets provides you with a diversity of shops. Public transport is extremely well organised, and a lot of the buildings, -including the modest palace built and designed by King William of Orange the second- have ... ...stores. It doesn’t take too long to get to the countryside, to visit the Trappisten monastery, which provides guided tours, or just to ride a bicycle around the countryside. Good for a week or weekend away, Tilburg is a calm place compared to Amsterdam and other cities of that size. ...

Advantages: Easy access, beautiful city Disadvantages: none
Eindhoven, the seat of Philips (“Let’s make things better”), is also a wonderful city to spend a day shopping. Easily accessed by public transport as train and bus services, you will find yourself in the buzzing heart of this city. The older highstreets are complimented by a modern mall building where everything can be found. From Italian ice cream, to clothing and music stores. Many eating establishments offer a variety of foods: simple meals to ...
