There are a few places in Ontario that have captured my heart and just won't let go of it. Since I am at this time unable to visit them, I thought, why keep other people in the dark about these places? You might love them as much as I do. Addresses and phone numbers can be found at the end of this article.
SILKWEEDS/PETTICOAT PARLOUR
First off, there is Silkweeds/The Petticoat Parlour. This place can be found in the small town of St.George, which ... ...modest Main Street, filled to the brim with antique shops, and a cosy pub. In short, Silkweeds is a house completely decorated in Victorian style, with their items reasonably priced. They are modern, and of a high quality. The owners, Jackie and Holly, also host the tearoom, (this particular part of the store is the Petticoat Parlour) which serves a variety of blends. Personally I prefer Victorian Garden Tea, with rose petals. So that comes highly ...

Advantages: Excellent Historical Content, Breathtaking Art Disadvantages: Noisy Kids,Too many Kids
I have totally re-written this review as those of you who know, I kinda messed up big time with the previous one. (Messed up being a polite way of saying it!)
I visited this museum on my recent trip to Toronto earlier this month whilst visiting family out there. I did mention it in my recent ‘op’ on Toronto but felt that this place deserved an ‘op’ all by itself as it was such a spectacular place to see. The museum is located in the Yorkville area ... ...The building itself is hugh and takes up almost a whole 'block' of the street. (The city of Toronto is made up of blocks similar to places like New York)Entry to the museum is made quite painless as there are at least 5 cashiers on duty which takes up the slack on the queue, entry to the museum is not free but reasonably priced for a days entertainment.
I paid the adult price of about £7, the child price is again half the adult.
======= Inside ...

Advantages: Hardly any people around. Good fishing. Peace & quiet. Disadvantages: Have to lug in your own food and drinks & be careful of nails.
Take a "ghost town" tour into Ontario's past by visiting the abandoned towns from Ontario's past.
"Jackfish" is one spooky place to visit. Overgrown with bushes and small trees, the ghost town of Jackfish is nestled along Jackfish Bay (just outside of the town of Terrace Bay) along the northern shoreline of Lake Superior in Ontario. Its deserted structures stretch a good half a kilometer and some of the rustic, crooked, grey cabins belonging to ... ...company.
The romantic railway town so captured my heart I even placed it in a setting in one of my books.
How do you get there? First of all get yourself a "topographical map" of the area - you can find one in any Sporting store.
Approximately 22 KM EAST OF TERRACE BAY (Terrace Bay to Jackfish approx. 22km)- or approximately 4 KM WEST OF THE TRANS CANADA HIGHWAY BRIDGE THAT CROSSES STEEL RIVER.
AT THIS POINT YOU WILL FIND A GRAVEL ROAD (SOUTH ...

Advantages: small town based on tourism Disadvantages: hard to go home after you visit! (how do you think I wound up here!)
My Grandmother first traveled through Bobcaygeon with her cousins a little more than 45 years ago, fell in love with the area and bought a piece of property where she and my Grandfather built our cottage. At first, it was a vacation home but then, she told me, she just couldn't bear going back to the city anymore and moved up full time. Through my lifetime, I have move around southern Ontario a lot. Every time, however, it seems I wind up back in ... ...that draws me in. The people here are wonderful and friendly, and the area is full of breathtaking natural beauty. Bobcaygeon is home to about 3,000 permanent residents and around 12,000 live in the surrounding area. We are a small community oriented town, in the heart of the City of Kawartha Lakes located just 200 kms North East of Ontario's capital of Toronto. Since Bobcagyeon is only an hour and a half journey from Toronto, I find this location ...

Advantages: Just a great place to relax, with or without the kids! Disadvantages: None what so ever!
Port Perry is situated on the banks of Lake Scugog, in the Durham Region. The surrounding country is incredibly peaceful. I remember getting the friend who took me there, to stop the car on our way back to Oshawa, where I had a motel room. I just had to get out and take pictures of the fields. Time had stood still here. Wind caressed the fields, ripples over the landscape, it was perfection. Later my friend's mother could tell me a portion of Anne ... ...And this is just the surrounding country.
Port Perry itself has a Main Street crammed with quaint little shops. A Victorian Tearoom, country type of shops, and a shop with native artwork (From carvings to clothing and jewelry). Right there. At the time I visited the first time, there was a small carnival going on. Games and rides, and my personal favourite, a ferris wheel. At the top you could see over the Lake as well as over Port Perry itself, ...

Advantages: Just a great place to be Disadvantages: takes a little while to find the actual entrance
Where do you go when you're visiting Toronto and you're itching to shop for a few hours? Maybe even a few days? Straight to the Harbour!
The Harbourfront Antique Market has become the place to go for anything you want, over the past 22 years. Starting as a market created among friends, now it counts over 100 independent antique dealers. Having roamed around for a few days there myself, I know I'm hooked for life. From little silver brooches going ... ...personal budget, it has something for everyone. Even those who do not think they're interested in antiques are likely to find something there that does appeal to them. (Usually to their surprise!). With this much variety, antique hunting can become a day out for both you and your -possibly initially uninterested- partner. Parking is available and just steps away from the market itself. Open 6 days a week, -the Market being closed on Mondays- without ...
