I dispute Mr. Official Man - look around you!

Advantages: Virtually everything
Disadvantages: Very strict

"The only country in the world where everybody is happy doesn't exist - because everybody is dead in that country." - Singaporean official governing "Speaker's Corner" in Singapore (BBC World, "Simpson's World", Feb.2.2001) *Why Singapore?* As some of you may have read my other review 'Beyond My Control - The tale of losing a father', you will know that my dad doesn't live with me. Instead, he chose to live on the beautiful island of Singapore ...
...not bad eh? So anyway, having been there twice already, this year I thought I'd pop over again and see my dad, taking along my sister (15) and my cousin (12) - wish me luck, I leave on Friday. *Where is it?* Singapore can be found situated in south - Eastern Asia, in-between the likes of Malaysia and Indonesia. It is the name given to a few small islands, rather than just one single place, and is beautifully warm all year round, showing no variance ...

Singapore has it all.

Advantages: People, food, shopping, the price.
Disadvantages: Pushy shop owners.

I was lucky enough to spend Christmas 2004 and the first week of January 2005 in Singapore and it was a fantastic experience. Apologies for the length of this review but there's so much to say about Singapore. I've divided the review into sections so you can skip to the bits you're interested in. I'll also add more in-depth reviews to the other sections in the Singapore travel page rather than writing too much here about the different areas. **Singapore ...
...in the world and it certainly is the nicest airport I've ever used. Singapore is often praised for its cleanliness and the airport reinforces this view of Singapore. Much attention has been devoted to decorating it and it has a gym, trees and so many shops. I went to Singapore with two friends and we had a problem at arrivals because our baggage hadn't arrived. We'd flown from Japan and had to change planes at Malaysia where we were delayed for two ...

A WESTERN CITY WITH AN EASTERN LOCATION

Advantages: A great city full of things to see and do
Disadvantages: Perhaps not the best Asian city to visit for the full far eastern experience

We visited Singapore in June 2005 as part of our summer vacation which took in Bali, Indonesia for 10 nights and 5 nights in Singapore. It was my first visit to Singapore but having vacationed in Thailand the year previous l had some experience of visiting an Asian city and country. Our trip was booked independently flying with Singapore Airlines (www.singaporeair.com) directly from Manchester to Singapore Changi Airport. The airfare which incorporated ...
...to Manchester cost us in June 2005 a princely sum of £575 which l do not think was bad at all - and as a side line l would note that Singapore Airlines meet the hype they are well worth flying for if only for the Kris air Entertainment System. On arrival (13 hours later) into Changi International Airport l was extremely impressed with the quality of the airport building - it was a quite hum of activity, clean, cool and sophisticated. Changi is a ...

An English Gaff In Asia

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

I recently travelled to this country, situated on the southern tip of Malaysia, where i stayed for 3 days along with my parents. Singapore is a wonderful place that I’d advise anybody to see if time / money allows. I can tell you one thing for sure, I didn’t want to come home. Singapore’s climate is very warm and the place has it’s own special kind of humidity – like none I’ve experienced before anyway. The country ...
...you can imagine what is it like walking in it’s heart, with the humidity like it is. The place has a very English feel about it. All the street names have English titles, and this is mainly due to the fact the city was built by an Englishman, Charles Raffles. The city is also very, very clean. It is an offence to bring chewing gum into the country, and the authorities don’t like groups of people smoking within the same space [don’t ...

The Lion City that Roars

Advantages: Perfect for a unique cultural immersion and a wild food-attack. Excellent transport system means getting to anywhere is a breeze.
Disadvantages: Hot (at least 30C everyday). Also, there is no natural scenery to speak of.

Been to Singapore for a 6-month attachment, and was enthralled with its vibrance and cultural richness. The name Singapore was derived from the Malay equivalent Singapura, which translates to Lion City. The city prides itself with its multi-ethnic and multi-racial population, which means there will be more than 20 festival celebrations held in just a year. The Mooncake Festival (Chinese) and Thaipusam (Indian) are just a few examples. A trip to ...
...into their religious heritage. Waterloo Street would be one fine place to begin with. However, tourists are advised to respect the sanctity of these places, and photography is usually disallowed. Mosques, on the other hand, are invariably out of bounds to non-Muslims. Tip 1: Try Waterloo Street during weekends. Language will not be much of a problem since quite a number of Singaporeans communicate in English. In fact, it is mandatory that students ...

Visiting friends in Singapore

Advantages: Shopping, food
Disadvantages: Hot, humid

Once again it turns out that it is great having friends around the world. The trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur was triggered by an invitation to a wedding in Kuala Lumpur (called KL from now on). We didn’t get that much time to plan the trip because we got the invitation on pretty short notice. We did manage to get tickets round trip from Stavanger to Singapore for about 6000 Norwegian kroner (about 650 US dollars) and that is not bad. Maybe the ...
...went on the trip. We started from Stavanger on November 9th 2000. As usual we flew to Amsterdam to catch the next flight from there to Singapore. When I say we I’m referring to my love Nikki and myself. For the first time we had decided to bring a video camera. I also had to bring a laptop and it can get pretty heavy to carry all these items around. My advice is to bring as little as possible with you to carry around. Schipol airport (http://www.schiphol.nl) ...

A Stifling but Satisfying Stopover

Advantages: Loads to see and do! Great for shopping and cheap food.
Disadvantages: Humid and touristy. Watch out for rip-off merchants!

More than just shopping and satay, Singapore is a rich and lively town with much to offer even the in-transit traveller. On my last trip home to Australia, my husband insisted we go with Singapore International Airlines instead of one of the cheaper airlines I usually choose (he couldn't bear the thought of twenty odd hours in the air without having his choice of movies and video games, apparently). So as neither of us had been there before we decided ...
...The first thing that hits you about Singapore is the humidity - we landed in the late evening and though the temperature was only around 30 degrees Celsius (not that hot when you come from Brisbane), because of the moisture in the air it felt a hell of a lot hotter. Singapore Airlines do a pretty good deal in the stopover department - for around £20/night for twin share you get a 'First Class' hotel room (nothing too fancy but not bad either), unlimited ...

Budget Holiday In Singapore

Advantages: Safe, A good public transport and accomodation
Disadvantages: the local people are not so friendly, it is very strict

Singapore is well known as the fine city in the world. It is located in South East Asia. Arriving in Changi Airport, you will be amazed by the arrangement and the cleanness inside. Yup, Of Course, you can not throw the rubbish anywhere you like. If you did it, I am sure an office will come across you and fine you. So be careful. If you are a shopaholic, I am very sure that you will like Singapore city. There are a lot huge Shopping center there. ...
...over limit. Orchad Road is the most well know area in Singapore. There are a lot huge shopping center, food point and hotel. However, if you go for budget holiday, I can suggest you not to shop at orchad shopping center. The price of the items, are a bit higher compare to the others shopping center, but of course you will get a very high quality of branded items there. It is really easy to get around in Singapore. They have a very good public transport. ...

come shopping with me!

Advantages: so many shops
Disadvantages: so little time

Ahh, my main loves in live, alca-mar-ol, fodder….then SHOPPING and Singapore is my most favourite place to shop in the world (but Manila is hot on it's tail!). The two main shopping strips in Singapore are Scotts Road; these are pretty much our equivalent of say Oxford Street & Bond Street. Scotts Road and Orchard Road pretty much sit in a t-shape & whilst staying in Singapore, most visitors will probably stay in this area, which is about half an ...
...to walk you up Scotts Road, at the top you will hit Orchard Road, and we will go left, up Orchard, towards Somerset and also right down Orchard, towards Tanglin - I may write other reviews on other shopping hotspots so look out! My only shopping tip for you is please, please, please try and dress like a local otherwise you will be completely taken for a mug - the mentality out there is tourists have money to spend and are stoopid! Singapore is a ...

Paradise and a Singapore Sling

Advantages: Clean, multi cultural
Disadvantages: Humid

We had the pleasure of taking our annual holiday last year to Singapore. We stayed at the Shangri-La hotel, which is a really lovely hotel, and I will surely write an op on this shortly. For the most part, Singapore is a clean and sterile city. There are beautiful, modern buildings throughout the city. There are some semi-exotic areas with interesting temples and buildings such as Little India on Serangoon Road, Chinatown near the Elgin Bridge, ...
...for most travelers, the Raffles Hotel Arcade Complex. A friend of ours, told us if we ever made it to Singapore, we must go inside to relax and enjoy a Singapore Sling in Raffles. A Singapore Sling is a concoction of gin, cherry herring, cointreau, benedictine, pineapple, lime juice, and angostura bitters. They tasted good, were refreshing, and the atmosphere inside was splendid. Some of the places that we visited and which were really the highlight ...

East meets West in Singapore

Advantages: lovely people, warm climate, clean streets, great shopping
Disadvantages: frequent heavy stormshowers, gotta be careful where you smoke!

I went with my family to Singapore a couple of years ago where we stayed in our friends' apartment for two weeks while they visited the Cotswolds in England where we had travelled from. The flight was around 13 hours long, which i found a bit of a stretch, being sat in the cramped economy class, but once you find a comfortable position to sleep in then all is okay (for me this was tilt your chair back as far as you can without really irritating the ...
...arms wrapped around you and your legs crossed up against the seat in front of you). Also if you are travelling with young children, remember to bring toys and things that will keep them entertained for what might be a long flight, depending where you are travelling from. Once you step off the plane, the first thing that you immediately notice is the humidity. It comes up from the ground and all around you, hitting you in the chest like a sauna and ...

Making the most of a visit to Singapore

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

What can we tell you about… Singapore It’s difficult to know where to start. Singapore is everything you would expect it to be, lively, bustling, interesting, entertaining, expensive (but packed full of bargains depending upon what you are looking for) and great FUN! When you arrive at the airport, look out for the FREE official guides and maps, which are placed all along the walkway to Immigration. If you miss them you may have to pay for similar ...
...What is there to do? Well, I didn’t do EVERYTHING but, between the team who went out there in April 2000, we managed to tick quite a few things off the list. In the following sections we make a few observations and suggestions and, where we have our own personal input we have allocated ‘ratings’ on how good it was – (5) for Excellent, (1) for Poor…. but remember, these are only our assessments. Places of Interest Ø Try the weekend flea markets ...

You can never have enough time in Singapore

Advantages: There's so much to do, It's very beautiful, It's very safe
Disadvantages: You might not have enough time there!

Singapore is one of the most beautiful cities i have ever been to. It's clean, full of tropical trees, nice shops, and there's no litter on the pavements. It's one of the safest cities in the world and is easy to get around. There's loads of shops, and whilst hardware electronics them sleves are of course cheaper than in the highstreets, they aren't that much cheaper than you can get if you sop around off of the highstreet in England. However, things ...
...can buy it all priated. There's lots and lots of jewerly shops, which are cheaper than England and the staff are very very friendly since they're trying to sell stuff to you. Once you're done shopping, you can check out all the attractions - There are sooo many attractions and things to do in Singpaore. First there's the day zoo. The day zoo is called the open zoo, because the idea behind it was to have no gages, and instead have moats of water ...

Singapore.The Mighty Midget

Advantages: Very clean environment. Efficient.Good shopping.
Disadvantages: High degree of social control.

I know Singapore very well since I was born in the Southern Malaysian town of Johore Bahru, which is just a hop across the causeway which separates Malaysia and the Island Republic. There is no doubt that Singapore's urban environment is impressive - it is a sqeaky clean place,no litter to be seen, even the chewing of gum is banned here.Possessing such a clean environment has meant a high degree of social control. It is an efficiently run Island ...

Singapore is a good place to eat out. There are numerous Western,Japanese,Thai,Chinese,Malay,Indian and American ...

Awesome :)

Advantages: It's size, it's food, its people
Disadvantages: Too far away!

For our honeymoon we had a stopover of 4 days in Singapore. I had always wanted to go there. It even amazed me more when I set my eyes on this beautiful city. It’s one of the most modern and developed cities in the world. It’s mixture of occidental and oriental touch makes it an awesome place. It’s incredibly clean and organized. Littering is prohibited and enforced. You cannot even eat chewing gum since it is against the law. Regardless its people ...
...good one. The city has the perfect size...everywhere is within walking distance allowing the visitor to walk everywhere. It is a very safe city. There are a lot of interesting sites and all you will need is a map and willingness :) You can visit the Raffles Hotel, considered one of the best hotels in the world, it has a colonial style. You should wear long pants if you wish to enter the hotel though. Orchad Road is an incredible street crowded with ...
