Tobago

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

Tobago. Tobago is one of most beautiful country, in the West Indies; it’s the sister of Trinidad. It takes 15 minutes by flight from Trinidad. An ideal place for the whole family to enjoy, as well as weddings and honeymoons. I do know that Sir Michael Heseltine and his family enjoyed Tobago; he is very keen on birds! No no no not dem birds… you know the other birds. (Smile!) It is a cosmopolitan; it’s the birthright of steel ...
...you would notice its cool very serene, beautiful with its lush tropical rain forests, the verdant hills where wildlife and plant life bear evidence to the richness of Tobago. The mystery of the seas, the artistic expression of the people, the folklore and customs all will restore your sprits! How do you get there? There are flights from London you can either travel through to British Airways, British West Indian Airways (my favourite airline) Virgin ...

TIEING THE KNOT IN TOBAGO

Advantages: loads
Disadvantages: some friends & family may not be able to afford

You can do the deed much more quickly these days, get married that is. Not, it has to be said, with a 24-hour or 24-minute turnaround, such as Las Vegas, but then, who would have the good taste to go to tobago to be married and then expect to do it with such unseemly haste? I choose to get married in Tobago in September 2000. We spent three weeks in Tobago, choosing to get married in the middle of our holiday; it is a good idea to allow at least ...
...you need to be a resident in the country for three full days (not including day of arrival) in order to qualify for a marriage license, and the paperwork will take another three days or so. Tobago has a professional wedding organiser - Tobago Weddings and several hotels are also able to handle all the arrangements for you. We booked an all-inclusive package at the Grafton-Beach Resort (www.grafton-resort.com), the package included the basic wedding ...

Trinidad is nice, Tobago is Paradise

Advantages: paradise on earth
Disadvantages: very hilly and a bit out of the way for party goers

When I decided to go to Tobago, I definitely didn't want to do the usual package trip to the Caribbean. I managed to find a cheap flight with British Caledonian (the later you book, the cheaper it is) and booked a room in a private bed and breakfast via the internet in the sleepy fishing village of Speyside. The whole thing was much cheaper than a package trip and the B&B I stayed at was really warm and friendly. (For those interested here is the ...
...well off the beaten tourist track and most of the non-locals were there to dive as this part of the coast has some of the best diving and snorkelling waters in Tobago. Speyside was also much hillier than the flatter, more touristy, Pigeon Point - so not necessarily for those who have problems walking. From the B&B, the views of Speyside Bay are breathtaking. It is only a short walk down the hill to the 'town', which is nothing more than a string ...

Wine, women and soca - did I miss anything?

Advantages: different Caribbean experience
Disadvantages: costs

When people hear the word Caribbean, immediately pictures of women in grass skirts, white sandy beaches, cocomut trees and primitives with spears come to mind - this will be a very big surprise when it comes to visiting Trinidad. I was not aware that there was a section on this site dedicated to travel in general and came across several reviews of Tobago, but none of Trinidad. Geographically, Trinidad and Tobago are located at the southernmost ...
...Venezuela. Politically, Trinidad has the problems of every first world nation - traffic, noise, etc. Population: Trinidad is made up primarily of Indian immigrants (too much history for this page) and African immigrants, plus a healthy section of Chinese, Syrian, American, European and Spanish people. Religion: Christianity appears to be the major religion, while that is closely followed by Hinduism and Islam (don't worry, we already checked them ...

Honeymoon in Tobago

Advantages: A beautiful, unspoiled island paradise
Disadvantages: A holiday that requires some effort

Introduction Tobago is a small island in the Caribbean near to Trinidad and the Venezuelan coast. We went for 2 weeks from the end of May, which is just about the start of the rainy season. Flight The flight from Gatwick to Tobago takes 8 hours or so, and going out the time difference does not have too much effect. We flew with JMC, who have since stopped flying direct to Tobago (see later). We got a price of 329 GBP per person return, which is ...
...not as good as the return journey. Arriving at Crown Point airport was a surprise. The airport is very small, and we were the only major flight that day. This meant that baggage handling was quick and so on, but you shouldnt expect incredible facilities. Accomodation We were staying in a house let by a friend of my wife, which was very nice. This was in the village of Carnbee, which is in the lowlands, and reasonably central. There is a fairly good ...

My perfect holiday in Paradise

Advantages: Sun, sea, sand, people, food, scenery
Disadvantages: Everything shuts on Sunday

Totally relaxed, soaking up the sun, drinking rum, chatting with the friendliest people I've ever met, at Christmas!! In Tobago the culture is so relaxed, you just melt into it. this is the place where, if it rains, nobody has to go to work. Imagine that here in Britain, or live it in Tobago. I spent, no enjoyed, two weeks in Tobago with three friends. We arrived on Christmas day 2000, and sadly departed on January 9th 2001. The holiday was perfect! ...
...at Shore Park and met a group of friends called Freedom. We got chatting to the people organising the event, and friends were made. The local people are so sincere. Obviously there are exceptions, some locals roam the beaches searching for tourists to sell necklaces or containers to, but there are also some genuine artists and craftsmen who aren't greedy with setting their prices for their work. The island is beautiful. The beaches are perfect. ...

Villa paradise in Tobago

Advantages: Suitable for families or honeymooners
Disadvantages: None - really

Tobago ought to be kept a secret. Once you discover it you don't want to share it, but I'm going to anyway. Tourism is the island's main source of income, though you wouldn't know...I thought I was the only tourist there... This place has been left behind in a world obsessed with material things. Tobago people are genuinely nice to each other, the children are a joy - well mannered, shy and pretty. Even the road sweepers wish you a nice day - and ...
...- unlike nearby Trinidad. Church is popular on sundays, - and the sabbath respected. You can't get petrol on sundays - everywhere closes - but then so what? The majority of beaches are untouched by man. No bars, hotels or jet skis. Just azure blue water, fish, rainforest and warm white sand. Here, despite the poverty of the people, protecting the environment means saying no to big hotels. Common sense rules. What a relief. And how much we could learn ...

Twin-Island Paradise

Advantages: Sun and warmth all year round, beautiful beaches, great for families or singles
Disadvantages: Tourists tend to be ripped off with prices and you need a car to get around

I write this with some bias as I am from Trinidad and am accustomed holidaying in Tobago. Nonetheless, I think I can share some genuine 'local' info for foreigners interested in visiting. Trinidad is a fantastic place to visit for the Carnival which always takes place the 2 days before Ash Wednesday (the beginning of Lent). Carnival is an experience you can never really describe. It is something you can only experience for yourself and for the full ...
...Carnival starts from several weeks before, with the steel pan competitions and the huge King & Queen costumes parading on stage, not to mention the Calypso and Soca contests. Excellent stuff! Year round, you can always find things to do in Trinidad, with the beaches (best are Maracas and Las Cuevas in the north, with Manzanilla and Mayaro on the east coast) and the naturalist centres like the bird sanctuary, the waterfalls, the pitch lake (a natural ...

Scuba Diving in Tobago

Advantages: Fantastic unspoilt reefs
Disadvantages: Need a car to get around

It was October. We couldn't face the Red Sea again - and despite the bombings in Sharm there weren't any good bargains. We'd already spent too much money on other holidays last year so we wanted 'cheap and different'. Tobago was the solution and it worked out really well. We booked with Regal Dive - www.regaldive.co.uk - who flew us over with excel airlines. I was nervous - there are some dreadful reviews of that airline doing the rounds. Honestly ...
...half the time at the Toucan Inn and half at the Inn on the Bay and we dived with the World of Watersports dive centre which is based at the Hilton. World of Watersports is an excellent dive centre. The equipment is of a high standard, the guys who run the boats and the divemasters are funny, friendly but always attentive to health and safety. The guy who runs the place is from Jersey - obviously likes little islands - and he runs a tight ship. One ...

Quick review of General: Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad is a beautiful island with fun people. If you want to party and have a right laugh then trinidad is the best place to go to. The food is an exquisite mixture of most cultures from indian to chinese and spanish dishes. I would however say that the beaches are a bit of a disappointment however Tobago has the most gorgeous beaches and is not far. Best time to go is for the boat race at the end of August. Absolutely fabulous. ...

Gran Coulan Spa

Advantages: ALL FACILITIES CLOSE AT HAND secure and safe
Disadvantages: Staff abused animals

Tobago On holiday with my daughter at Grand Courlan Spa resort. From 14th April to 26th April 2007 The first night when we arrived at the hotel, we were told of a cruel instance of animal abuse by hotel staff. There was a stray dog, one of the” beach dogs” foraging for food around the hotel. She is a lovely docile black puppy about 5 months old. A party of guests were on the dance floor being taught Latin American Dancing, when the rather large ...
...probably almost boiling water over the dog. The dog squealed and yelped in pain and ran off. We were befriended by the dog the next day and gave it food and water. The dog appeared to be relatively uninjured, but the fur on her upper left leg appeared very mangy. By the second day, bald patches began to appear in this area of her legs and these patches continued to grow larger. The exposed skin appeared blistered and septic, caused by the original ...

Tobago - Lush Green Tropical Paradise

Advantages: Stunning views around every bend
Disadvantages: Flights can be very delayed as airport is very small

Despite problems with our flight we arrived on this amazing tropical paradise excited by the wonder and beauty of it all. On our first morning we wandered around the lush gardens of our hotel, had a fabulous breakfast and then headed off to explore. This island has so much to offer from the beautiful marine life in the buccoo reef to a small rainforest in the centre of the island to acres and acres of amazing beaches, many of which do not have a ...

trinidad & tobago

Advantages: Lots of Clubs
Disadvantages: little expensive

They are many places to go and see in Trinidad and Tobago. And they are many types of foods to eat. In Trinidad and Tobago you can try "Roti", which tastes really good. You can also try "Shark and Bake", but if you don't want to try any of the island foods you can go to "KFC", "SUBWAY", "BURGER KING" "TGI FRIDAY'S" or " RUBY TUESDAY". Trinidad and Tobago is very pretty and most of the people are friendly. Things in Trinidad and Tobago are a little ...
