Cheap as Chips cheaper than Asda!

Advantages: Cheap, Flight is short
Disadvantages: Watered down drinks

Please note before you start reading this review, that this is a review on the hotel and my holiday in a specific part of Tunisia. Unfortuantely only the general category is available to place the review, and in my opinion its better to write the review then not to. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Oh there is nothing better than lying on the beach with a cold one in your hand and the sound of the sea…….. Tunisia - You gonna like or you gonna hate, ...
...friend and myself decided to go on a girls holiday, cheap as chips was the key word and destination anywhere was the landing point. Using the power of the internet we trawled for hours looking for great deals. Finally we decided on a package deal to Tunisia, which seemed a good place to go and had some good deals. We looked at various agencies and decided on Thomas Cook who had the best range of deals available. Our first job was to short list hotels ...

Sun, Sea, And Plenty Of Sand!

Advantages: Very Cheap, Beautiful Beaches, Plenty To See
Disadvantages: Hassle From Local Shopkeepers, Poor Public Transport

Tunisia was the recent choice for my latest Holiday destination so here I begin with a general review of the Country itself. Attempting to write a review on a whole Country is obviously a daunting idea but I thought that it would be useful to include lots of general information about Tunisia on the whole for anyone who may be considering choosing this place for a future Holiday. I will in due course post a few reviews of specific locations but for ...
...a more general nature. Prior to my visit between 2nd and 9th July 2006 Tunisia was a place that I knew very little about and since the Holiday booking was a last minute one based on Price and dates of Travel there was no prior research done. To find out if the gamble on my choice of location paid off then I am afraid you will have to read some of my other reviews to follow, but first I will begin with a few general facts. LOCATION AND GEOGRAPHY ...

TALES FROM TUNISIA PART 2: THE SAFARI!

Advantages: Great sights and sun!!
Disadvantages: Some heavy storms and risk of illness in september.

TUNISIAN TRAVELS PART 2 For those of you who have read the first part of my tales about the recent holiday I had in North Africa welcome back! Newcomers should be able to read this as a stand alone op but its probably worth having a quick read of part 1 of the op (it was just to long to put in as one!) to get a rough idea of what I got up to for the rest of the time that I was there! This section of my mammoth op is about the ‘safari’ I took in ...
...via an organised tour operator. It cost about £140 per person to go on it and that included entry to all the places we stopped at, food, transport of which you will see there were several modes and overnight accommodation at a very nice hotel out on the verge of the desert. It was excellent value and if you do ever go out to Tunisia (or I would imagine any North African country) its well worth a look especially if you are on a two-week holiday like ...

Diarrhoea, sickness and nuisence

Advantages: beautiful place
Disadvantages: expensive alcohol. need loads of immodium

i decided to go here for my holiday because i opened the brochure and it really jumped out at me, beautiful white sand and Mediterranean temperatures, my boyfriends offered to pay for this holiday for my 18th birthday. so we went and it cost £1000 for the hotel and flights for 2 weeks bed and breakfast. we landed at monistir airport to absolutely gorgeous weather, it was a scorching 41 degrees, there were smiles on everyone's faces. We got into ...
...and got on the coach all within an hour, the coach driver got on and to our relief put the air conditioning on. we did the first drop off, and finally we pulled up at ours, mine and my boyfriends faces dropped, as we pulled up. We stayed in the 'skanes el hana', it was beautiful just like the brochure, we got off the coach to bell boys who took out luggage into the lobby, we were escorted to the seating area, marble floors lovely comfortable slouchy ...

Tunisian Holiday - Part Two

Advantages: Amazing coliseum
Disadvantages: Being hassled to buy

+El Jem, Monastir and Port El Kantaoui+ Continuing on our trip, the next destination was El Jem and its impressive Roman Coliseum. This was probably my favourite part of the holiday and definitely the place I remember the most. It is thought to have been built somewhere between 230 and 238AD, for gladiator battles. Driving towards El Jem on the coach myself and my boyfriend Mark were getting quite excited. We had seen pictures of the monument, ...
...really know just how outstanding it was going to be. We were also excited because the amphitheatre featured in the movie ‘Gladiator’ was actually based on this one. As you approach the city, you start to get a glimpse of the building. It completely dominates the skyline, and looks out of place surrounded by all the small blocks of modern buildings. We left the coach at the bottom of the slight hill that leads up to the entrance. The route gives ...

history, culture, and great sunbathing

Advantages: sunshine, choice of lounging by the pool or seeing a bit of culture
Disadvantages: not great for women on their own

I have just returned from a week's holiday in Tunisia, and I have to say it was one of the best holidays I have ever had. Far from ending up in a boring holiday resort full of high-rise hotels, we had the chance to visit a fascinating country and experience a very different way of life -- as well as having a few days on a sun-lounger to relax afterwards! Tunisia, for those who aren't too hot on geography, is on the north coast of Africa, on the ...
...strict as some others -- I was able to walk around in shorts and t-shirt without attracting too much unwanted attention, although wearing swimwear outside the hotel grounds would be a very bad move. Tunisia was under French rule until the 1950s, so French is widely spoken as well as Arabic. English and German are also spoken by most people in the more touristy areas. Hammamet is a resort on the north-east coast. Hammamet Sud, where our hotel was ...

HAMMAMET (tunisia)

Advantages: great weather. amazing beach.
Disadvantages: some areas need modernising.

We went to Tunisia in June 2004 and stayed at the Sheraton in Moncef Bay, Hammamet Plage. i have written a seperate review on the hotel. Moncef bay has many bars and restaurants. There is the London pub. English music, very lively, good if you are feeling home sick ! Latino bar was one of our favourites. Great food, great music, a pool table, and friendly staff. There was a club called Manhatten, which looked quite dodgy, so we didn’t risk it. Maybe ...
...would have given this a try…possibly. It is possible to walk from Hammamet Plage to the Medina in Hammamet town center. It took us just under an hour. Its not an amazing walk, you go through some run areas, and there’s not much to see on the way. We suggest you take a taxi – its very cheap ! However, walking allows you to pop in to some of the other hotels for a pre-dinner drink. Hotel Sinbad had a nice outdoor seating area and lots of complimentary ...

Great prices but horrible experiences

Advantages: Prices and Weather
Disadvantages: Pesting salesmen, food, badly planned trips

If you’re going to Tunisia there are several things you HAVE to make sure of before going. The key to make the visit a good one is to travel with a really good company OR someone who’s been there enough times to function as a guide to as well sites as to restaurants. This we did not and our trip was awful from the beginning to the end. Do NOT buy a trip that includes meals – we did and the food was horrible even though we were offered a buffet. The ...
...days! Absolutely NO variations at all. Onto that, food wasn’t even hot, it was medium warm and if you weren’t there the minute the restaurant opened, you could be sure that the food had been. Not nice to eat something that’s been on a warming plate for 2-3 hours…. (This sadly wasn’t just our 4-star hotel, I talked to several others staying at other hotels and they said the same.) Prices in Tunisia are low on basically everything compared to our western-world ...

Tunisia - a mini guide

Advantages: Short flight, hot, cheap, lovely people
Disadvantages: Poor country, Poor food

We booked a week in Tunisia because the hotels are luxurious for a cheap price - I won't go on about the hotel - that's a separate review - we were not impressed. I'll advise you on the general bits we found about tunisia Weather We went in September and were told our weather was not at all typical, which judging by the weather here and in France I can believe. We had very bad thundery rain storms 3 days out of the 7. It was very warm (32-35 degrees ...
...in the evening, so best to take a cardi perhaps. Most hotels have air conditioning through the summer months. Money Tunisian Dinas (TD) can only be bought once you're in the country. We took English notes, hotels also deal in dollars, Euros, travellers cheques for a small extra charge. We got £100 changed at the airport while we were waiting for the luggage to be unloaded, and they don't charge commission. I think I'm right in saying they don't ...

Tasteful Tunisia

Advantages: Cheap. sunny, convenient
Disadvantages: Food & drink a little limited in hotels

I love this country - I have been there 3 times in a row & absolutely adore it. We have always stayed in Port El Kantaoui in 3 different hotels - Mouradi Palace (5*), Caribbean Riviera (4* all inclusive) and the Abou Sofiane (3* all inclusive). All three are beside each other about 15-20 mins wall along the beach to the Port. The beach in Kantaoui is gorgeous - loads of white sand, really clean & plenty of cheap watersports. I tried the parasailing ...
...this is super - you get strapped in, run & then up in the air, the view is spectacular - as far as Sousse on a clear day. Camel & horse rides a-plenty too. Sousse is a nice trip for the day to get out of resort. The Souk is great. Girls, wear a ring on your wedding finger & cover up the chest (avoids tame unwanted attention). Pottery is a fab buy. Gold & silver not really to my taste (a bit 60's but if you like marcasite, your're in for a treat). ...

Tunisia Holiday

Advantages: Sun, sea, sand in abundance
Disadvantages: haggling

Excellent holday and well worth the money. This was my second trip to Tunisia, the first being about 15 years ago. We went at the end of Sept 04. It's come on in leaps and bounds over the years. The Govt has realised the benefits of tourist income and have put loads of money into developing resorts and infrastructure. Tourist facilities are very good and standards of excursions etc. are high. This time, we stayed in a small 3* between Port El Kantoui ...
...and the staff very friendly and helpful. The big advantage was the location - right on the beach. Warm sunshine, lovely clean water and relatively little hassle from beach sellers (they're not too aggressive and go away if you are firm). Prices can be high - but that's only the starting position. If you don't mind haggling you can get them down to 1/5 of the start price - which makes it a reasonably cheap place to bring back souveniers from. If ...

out of season Tunisia

Advantages: great place loads to see
Disadvantages: might be too hot in the high season

I have just returned from my honeymoon in tunisia where i went on an all inclusive week to recover from my wedding. The weather was pleasant, t shirts by day cardigan by night, Personally i do not like it to hot so it siuted me perfectly, also no insects etc and as we went on the Sahara trip it was lovely and comfortable. I know that maybe the Oasis we visted would have been in full bloom in june july but I would have been to hot and miserable to ...
...not crowded so it was very relaxing and we could get to everything we wanted with out queing, the only draw back is with there being less trade the traders are keener to get you into their shops but I found a firm "no thank you" and continue walking usually got rid of them and some were very nice and did not hassle at all i think its a case of the few giving all a bad reputation. I found the people very very Friendly and polite and will definitly ...

You should go there!!

Advantages: Something for eveyone
Disadvantages: You can't stay there for ever!

I love Tunisia! I've been there a number of times, and every time, I want to go back again!! The people are lovely. They're very friendly, and most hospitable. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. The cuisine is excellent too. The traditional foods are wonderful, but they also cater for those less adventurous with traditional meals from all countries. There really is something for everyone. There are also many activities available, ...

holiday destination (FOR DISABLED TRAVELERS)

Advantages: good beaches, friendly people, excellent service and sunshine.
Disadvantages: None that i can personally bring to mind.

Tunisia was the first country we have ever visited outside of the U.K. So it was also the first time we had ever flown. As i am disabled, we took some advise on a suitable destination, somewhere resonably flat, a good taxi service as buses etc are not viable, and good weather of course. But also somewhere that we would find enjoyable.( depends what you want form enjoyment). Good clean beach, facilities within easy reach and friendly people. The advice ...
...Kantoui. Travelcare part of the co-op, gave there independent opinion backed up the advice given. So the decision was made to book the holiday, a decision we will never regret. It gave us every thing we wanted and more, so if you want a good relaxing holiday give it a try you may well find it worth the effort we most definatly did. ...

Best Holiday Ever

Advantages: Scenery, food, weather
Disadvantages: Shopping

I went to Sousse in Tunisia and I have to say it was the best holiday ever. It was a tourist area so we met a lot of brits. The scenery was beautiful. We stayed near a beach, which we visited daily. The temperature is so hot, the highest was 50 degrees c! It is really relaxing and most tunisian people are nice. However, shopping is a nightmare. There are people selling stuff everywhere even 5 year old selling flowers that have been picked off a nearby ...
...the decent traders who give you a decent price, you will find that the prices are very cheap. I bought an album on cassette for only 75p! It's like paradise and you wouldn't want to leave but it is too hot to live there and would be nightmare to work in that heat. ...
