    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very reliable

Good old red buses are great for shopping trips and sightseeing in central London. I often use the buses to get around in London for my leisure activities, e.g., shopping, going to cinema, etc. However, do avoid the rush hours about 8am - 9.30am and 5pm - 6pm on weekdays. In any case, bus rides are cheaper than the Tube. For a single journey including central London (Zone 1), the fare is £1; for any journey outside central London, it is 70p. Children (5-15 years) pay a fixed fare of 40p. If you are going to many places by bus, there are cheaper ways to pay for your bus journey. One-Day Bus ... more

To be honest red buses in London are getting a little rusty and we don’t see too many new buses around but I have to say still they are one of the best means of transport in London. I have been using them for many years now. Although now a days I don’t use them very often as compared to my college days but still there are times when I prefer taking a bus rather than using my car as finding a place to park the car can be very difficult at times and at some places in London you may have to pay up to £4 per hour for parking. With the passage of time I have seen so many changes, some ... more

Advantages Advantages superb value for money, great guides, ticket lasts 24 hours

    Disadvantages Disadvantages absolutely none

Two weeks ago I found myself at a very boring conference in London. Having spent an almost sleepless night in a main-road hotel above a train station, I was in danger of dozing off. Outside, however, the skies were clear and blue and the temperatures unseasonably warm. I waited ‘til twelve, took advantage of the free lunch and then legged it to Trafalgar Square to take an open top bus tour round the capital for the rest of the afternoon. The first bus to come along was the Big Bus Tour. I would have got on it whatever the price and wherever it was going in truth, but I was very pleased ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Traffic, difficult if you are not a londoner

Just looked through the old london bus reviews, and its amazing how things have moved on. Within the past few years, london's buses have been completely transformed, and many londoners now prefer them to the tube. CHARGES / TICKETS Bus pricing was always v. complex, and Im sure it put people off. A simplified sturcture was put in place, and it now operates on a flat fare basis. A shame if you are only going a few stops, but usually works out a good deal. Tickets are now about £1.20 or £0.80 if you use a pre-paid oystercard. This covers almost all routes (except special services, eg to ... more

Lost Angel gave a good account of getting around London by bus but what about the man/women sitting in the front seat? I have sat in that seat for a good many years and in different parts of the country. In the 1960s it used to be fun. Lots of good mates and lots of cheerful passengers. Ever been on a 05.00 bus travelling towards the City area of London. It used to be packed with char ladies who were the chirpiest lot of people you would ever come across. Heaven help the newly passed out conductor on this run. They would leave him stripped naked and then get off laughing their heads off. many ... more

London buses are not always as crowded as the tubes, although of course you run the risk of getting caught in peak hour traffic. They provide a popular way of getting around and about London and will enable you on most routes to at least catch a glimpse of one or two tourist attractions enroute. The fares are reasonable , certainly compared to the tube and providing you can get a seat all you have to do is watch the world through the window and hope that you remember not to get carried away and get of at the right stop. Most routes run frequent services and many run late in to the night as ... more

Advantages Advantages none really unless you can't walk, ride a bike or drive a car

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many to write here, read my message

London buses should all be removed because they are the worse type of transport there can be. 1) They are slow and unreliable. 2) They are expensive to use. 3) They are dirty and smelly. 4) They are mass transport for loud and disrespectful school children. 5) They sometimes don't even open the door to let you in. If you had to get from one area of london to another, you are better off going by bike, tube or foot, as the time it takes you far longer to go by bus. For example, one journey that I need to take sometimes, it would take me 2 hours to wait for buses and travel. However, if I were to ... more

Advantages Advantages Usually reliable, handy bus.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Crowded at peak times

Arriva London South route 60 is operated from Beddington Farm Garage with 'DLO' and 'DLP' class low floor double deck buses. They are very comfortabe, accessible for wheelchairs and prams / buggies. The bus is Croydon's main North - South link, and is very well used. It runs from Streatham, near many lesire facilities i.e. Bowling, Go Karting, Ice Skating, Cinima, Down though Pollards Hill estate and onto the London Road down through Thornton Heath and past Mayday Hospital to Croydon. It then runs through the central area, and back out along the Brighton Road to Coulsdon via Purley. It then ... more

Advantages Advantages reasonable fares.Good routes.Frequent service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow during peak hours

London's public transport I reckon is pretty good. Every time I am in London I hear gripes and there are problems but try moving around Rome,Bangkok, Paris or Hong Kong during peak hours. Apart from the tube I have a fondness for London Transport's red double deckers. The routes are extensive, the fares reasonable and the frequency is OK too. For tourists I would strongly recommend using the buses. Start your journey say from 10 am and get a seat on the upper deck. This way you can get great views of a lot of London's major attractions-Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace ... more

Advantages Advantages Buses are great for obscuring peoples veiw.

Disadvantages Disadvantages I won't waste my breath

I chose the London's bus service as I thought it would be a quick and easy way to get around. I didn't know how wrong one could be. Nearly two weeks ago, I needed to catch the 102 bus for what should be a ten minute bus journey. I waited for 45 minutes before I eventually gave up as I had missed my appointement ten minutes beforehand. I got charged £20 for not turning up. This was just the begging. This happened to me again and again and agin. (Not allways getting charged, obviously). I watched a program with John Prescott explaining for the reason why buses were late. He said they get held up ... more
