The tube
Review of Getting around in London by tube by damau

Advantages: Few
Disadvantages: High Prices, infrequent

After moving to London a few years ago, from Australia one of the disappointments was that I would have to do a lot of travelling. Now that I have been using the tube for a few years I have developed some opinions. For your information I live in chigwell, whish is at the loop end of the central line. Opinion 1 There should be a direct line going from the Woodford area to North West London (Hendon Area). This would mean that the central line might ... Read review

Brilliant way of getting from A to B
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Lara_King

Advantages: Clean, modern, spacious, efficient, reliable -- pretty great!
Disadvantages: Covers only Docklands (though it does now extend as far as Lewisham and Stratford)

The DLR is a tube with a difference. The trains (which provide absolutely stunning views of Docklands from around Westferry onwards) run high above the ground, and are a lot more modern than the rather archaic underground lot -- bus-style seats offer more comfort, and there is much more standing room around the doors so any commuter types can stand waiting for their stop and still manage to breathe. I've found the DLR to be very efficient, with ... Read review

Reasonable way of travelling
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Liberty1

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Crowded

The Bakerloo line can be crowded and in summer uncomfortable to travel on, however it is an experience not to be missed and compared to underground systems in other countries maybe London Underground has it's unfair share of critics. Security however can be a problem, be carefull on crowded trains or you may come away with less belongings than you started with. The maze of undergrounds stations can be confusing indeed daunting but the large maps of ... Read review

Mostly OK, sometimes terrible
Review of Getting around in London by tube by sammmie_uk

Advantages: quirky, covers lots of handy stations
Disadvantages: slow, old trains, old track, broken signals, cost

It's a quirky line, the Hammersmith & City. I use it most days to get to work. It's notoriously unreliable and down the Western end of the line the stations are built high up on bridges, exposed to the wind. It can get more than a little chilly in the winter. The line runs along some of the oldest track in London (at Baker St/Edgware Rd). I have had some strange experiences on the line like, the driver forgetting to stop at a station and then reversing ... Read review

Opinions Of Regular User
Review of Getting around in London by tube by lewis111

Advantages: Frequent service, cheap
Disadvantages: Unsafe, slow for short journeys

I use the Underground a few times a week and being someone that doesn't live in London I think that the reliability is generally good compared to any other kind of public transport I use like buses or trains. It is cheap to use with a travelcard for about £4.00 off-peak which lets you go on London Underground, buses and trains all day. Trains are quite frequent on most lines but I think there should be more on Bakerloo & Metropolitan lines. I ... Read review

Underground - my experiences!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Darrenworthy

Advantages: Helpful staff, quicker than walking, dry
Disadvantages: Branching lines, queues, too many lines,

I feel that I am in a perfect position to discuss the London Undeground as I wasrecently jetting across the city with Help the Aged colecting for the charity at a number of Underground stations. It can sometimes be difficult to find your way around the tube with certain lines branching (the Central line being a particularly bad one as it branches at both ends) and certain trains stoping before the end of the line. However the tube maps and information ... Read review

hmmm
Review of Getting around in London by tube by carys

Advantages: quick, easy way of travelling across london
Disadvantages: people, delays

i've been living in london now for a grand total of a year and have (so far) found the tube to be fairly reliable. every now and then there's a random reason for the trains to be delayed, and usually this is perfectly timed in order to cause maximum disruption to my journey to university. but apart from that, and the fact that i only ever travel at rush hour (one of the most annoying things at the end of a loooong day is having to wait for 15 minutes ... Superb
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Beth

Advantages: MOST THINGS
Disadvantages: IF YOU STAND NEXT TO SOMEONE SWEATY~!

I have used the jubillee line twice now, the last time on a very busy, very hot day in August and I found the trains comfortable and cool and not crowded in the least. This line doesn't deserve all the slack it gets. The trains are very clean and always arrive on time. As I am not a Londoner I find uit rathera novelty that you don't have to wait three hours for a little bus to come trundling down a country road! DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU'VE TRIED IT. ... Read review

Quality of Service
Review of Getting around in London by tube by vkain

Advantages: This service is great
Disadvantages:

Well, I've never been to London but heard alot about especially about the traveling anfd the amount of people that use the Tubes. When I arrived there was alot of news about gangs taking money from the passengers and they were asking for Police Specials due to this. As you can imagine I was quite unnerved about this as you can't really travel around London any other way. After spending 3 days in London not once did I see a problem there were always ... London Tube from the Prespective of a Visitor
Review of Getting around in London by tube by p_mitchev

Advantages: Fast, Fairly Easy to Get Around
Disadvantages: Expensive, Could be Crowded, Unreliable

First of all, let me start off by saying that I do not use the tube regularly. I only use it once in awhile when I have to go to London. My first impression of the tube was the really low ceiling which made me feel a little claustrophobic and the very high prices. A single is 3 pounds and a day ticket I think was 4.90, which of course makes it better to get a day ticket if you know you will travel more than once. I normally get on the tube at ... Read review

Handy Hints and Short Cuts
Review of Getting around in London by tube by CareBear

Advantages: quick and cheap
Disadvantages: hot and cramped

Getting around the tube can be tiring at the best of times but ever wondered why there is always someone who seems to be going the wrong way down a tunnel or not following the signs... all will be revealed. Your journey on the underground is possible without lots of long walks down depressing corridors if you know the short cuts, for example. Street to Central Line at Tottenham Court Road: At the bottom of the escalators turn right down the ... Read review

An important tool for London commuters
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Mattnottm

Advantages: Cheap fares (except Zone 1 singles!), fast, extensive network
Disadvantages: Unreliable, crowded at peak times

For the oldest Underground rail network in the world, it still is one of the best to travel on. Even though it may be dirty, and smell like a toilet in places! For Londoners, they complain of an expensive tube system that is full to bursting. I would like to disagree on the expensive part. For people who live in areas where Underground trains are an insane idea. We have to contend with packed single-decker buses which are at best expensive. A ... Read review

First impressions count
Review of Getting around in London by tube by NeilA

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

This is the first impresion many foreign visitors get of London/England - i.e. that it is old, dirty, smelly, litter strewn and the staff are miserable and unhelpful. Come on LT get your act together. Why oh why oh why don't we get some more investment for public transport? You can keep the petrol prices high as far as I'm concerned just get some new trains on the tracks more training and pay for staff, more litter pickers and more people will use ... Read review
