The best of the underground
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Aquila

Advantages: new and relatively clean
Disadvantages: overcrowded

This is as good as the London Underground gets. The Jubilee extension has new stations, decent trains, new developments like doors between the platform and the train to stop people falling on the line in the press, and looks like the future. The older bit of the Jubilee is a decent line. The downside is overcrowding. Try evening rush hour when there are both commuters and punters leaving the Dome. The weight of people mean this really isn't very ... Read review

The best in the world
Review of Getting around in London by tube by supersteno

Advantages: Quick, extensive
Disadvantages: Crowded, full of rude people!!

I used to hate the underground before I came to live in London. People were rude and it seemed so confusing to a simple country lad like myself. Having lived in the big smoke for a year now my opinions have changed somewhat!! People are still rude - what is your problem down here, no one ever smiles, no one says please or thank you and people look at you as if you are some sort of nutter if you are outrageous enough to start a conversation!! It ... Read review

Why don't you stop at Turnham Green
Review of Getting around in London by tube by cellnetsms

Advantages: travels to heathrow cheaply
Disadvantages: doesn't stop at Turnham Green

I remember back to the good old days when the Picadilly line actually stopped at Turnham Green. It made travelling a bit easier, but now the trains very infrequently stop there and so you have to make the awful transfer between the district line to the picadilly line. I don't understand why this is the case...it would clear up alot of the crowds on the district line and I don't think that it would cause an unnecessary delay. The other problem ... Read review

Its awful
Review of Getting around in London by tube by ling

Advantages: gd for those who like to wait ard and waste their time
Disadvantages: anything u can think of

The circle line is..... to sum it up in 1 word.... AWFUL... luckily for me the line that i most regularly use is the northern line... which doesnt have the best record as well but in comparison to the circle line.... it is wonderful. The circle line is wrought with delays.... more delays... and even more delays..... so no one even bothers to take it... unless of course they have lost their minds... If you can take another line... if u cant..... ... Read review

Great for shopping
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Ringo

Advantages: Easy access, shops
Disadvantages: Crowded

I use this underground to get from my hotel to the West End. It has a mini shopping centre and it looks really good. It is also connected to a train station so you go to other cities in England. So if you looking for a good tube station that is pretty central and near hotels and the sort, why not try out this one. I recommend this one for people on the move and for tourists staying in a nearby hotel. Try it out, you won't be dissapointed, I ... Read review

London Underground - could be better!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by bi66

Advantages: Quick way to get from point A to point B
Disadvantages: Overcrowded, Hot, Not enough trains

Everyone who lives in London or in the suburbs of London knows that the fastest way to get somewhere is the London Underground (if available). But on most routes the trains are old, in summer time it is so hot you prefer to take the bus (and arrive 1 hour late at your destination), most of the time the trains are overcrowded. I'm actually not a very tall person and all the elbows are at my face's height. You can imagine that I'm not very keen in taking ... Read review

Underground, Overground, Wombling free, the ...
Review of Getting around in London by tube by father_jack

Advantages: Generally fast, easy to use and reliable
Disadvantages: Queues, crime and some of the people on it...

The Underground may not seem like it, but it is a transport dream. London has the best transport network in the country, and still we moan... Just imagine London without the tube... Enough said. Buses are slow and unreliable (not to mention the fact 2/3 of the time you have absolutely no idea where they are going), taxis are expensive and walking is slow and tiring (especially for those who are keen on their pies, like me). And driving in central ... Read review

Wow!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by demondog

Advantages: Safety, Space, Design
Disadvantages: None Identified

Man, the jubilee line Rocks! The grenwich station for the dome is great. it facilitated an excellent day out and took the central london driving blues out of my trip. The station is self is large (very high ceiling) spacious (six people wide at most points) safety is excellent with the line enclosed from the platform - the train lines up with a door which opens as the train door opens. The escalaters were operating well on the day i visited. All ... Read review

A pleasure to travel on
Review of Getting around in London by tube by GrahamN

Advantages: Clean, modern, fast & effiecient
Disadvantages:

The DLR is a tube with a difference. Its the only part of the London transport network that is a monorail. The service offers a clean, speedy, efficient set of monorails and easy to understand timetables as well as friendly staff. Each train is controlled by computer and does not have a driver, the carraiges are big, spacious and have plenty of standing room. A screen inside reminds you of the destination and should you need to go in another ... Read review

Better than anything else!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by paule23

Advantages: cheap, realible
Disadvantages: Deep stations

I recently visited London for the first time and was greatly impressed by the London Underground. I have since visited several times and have used the tube on each occassion and I find it a very quick, reliable, cheap and convenient way to get aroung London. All my life I have read in the press about how poor the service is on the London Underground, how there are constant delays, poor service, it is too expensive etc. I know I have only limited ... Great apart from powercuts!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Morgenhund

Advantages: Clean, reliable
Disadvantages: Power cuts can leave you stranded

...Docklands railwy is great for getting out to Greenwich and Canary Wharf, and as well as being clean and reliable, you actually get to see a bit of London. The one problem that I have encountered has been wehn there have been power outages, and then things have gone haywire. With the extension of the line down to Lewisham the line will probably become slightly more used, as during business hours it can be pretty empty. The trains are usually punctual, ... Read review

Jubilee line..
Review of Getting around in London by tube by gissing

Advantages: clean line, very fast
Disadvantages: too dear!

The tube to the dome really is something special. I mean, the facilities look really clean, and modern. To behonest with you, it was the first time I actually felt like I was in the year 2000. (I assumed, perhaps wrongly, we'd all be in silver space suits by now!) The idea of having extra doors between you and the trains is great, and the trains seemed to be a bit quicker, and much mroe likely to be timely. Overall, Im impressed with the tube, ... Read review

Absolutely appalling
Review of Getting around in London by tube by cypress

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Every possible thing

The London Underground is shameful. It is vastly overcrowded, totally unreliable, outrageously expensive, highly unsafe, and just downright horrible in every way. (Per mile, the tube is more expensive to ride than the Concorde jet! Plus it's the most expensive underground in Europe.) The problem is, there is no other way to get around London! Buses are even more slow and unreliable, taxis and cars ditto. So residents and visitors of London are virtually ... Read review

Hot Cross Buns
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Joper

Advantages: Quick, and when it works is convienent
Disadvantages: There is not enough space here, but here are just some, hot, overcrowded, old

It was classed as a major engineering feat back in the Victorian age, but that was over 100 years ago. I think it needs a bit of a refurbishment on all sectors. The convience and speed of the Underground has been masked by the rising temperatures on the Tube, overcrowding, old escalators, track and stations needing desperate need of modernisation. All this needing to be done or dealt with, with the tube annoucing £10million profit. What part of this ... Read review

Good for some
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Metaphysician

Advantages: Quick & Reliable
Disadvantages: Crowded & Hot

The Northern Line works well for me, because I commute in from South Wimbledon - only the second stop on the line. Consequently I can always get a seat and complete my journey in comfort. Not so for the poor souls who have to board after Balham and up through Clapham. There seems to be a daily rush-hour scrum to get on and have the privilege of standing for the whole journey. So, potential Northern Line commuters, I warn you, pick your station carefully. ... Read review
