Go with the flow
Review of Getting around in London by tube by DavidJWest

Advantages: Quick and cheap, and reliable.
Disadvantages: Crush! Confusing for newbies!

As a foreigner to London, from the wilds of Yorkshire the few times I have been on the 'tube' I have found it an experience to say the least. Overall I love it, it is so cheap and quick to get around the capital that any negatives are far outweighed. The main drawbacks I don't like are that it is so busy and impersonal, people are unfriendly in London anyway, but get on the tube and you will be amazed how people behave like cattle, as they are ... Jubilation for Jubilee!!!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Beth

Advantages: Speed
Disadvantages: Crowded

To put it frankly, I was very impressed by the Jubilee line. I had a day ticket which I thought was very reasonably priced, in the region of one ound. The trains always cam on time, and were always immaculately clean, although I went at an off peak time, the trains were still pretty crowded but I suppose thats to be expected really, espescially as the day I went was the day of the London marathon, there was a slight delay as someone had tgrown themselves ... London Underground Tube
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Alexis1

Advantages: Vital transport link
Disadvantages: Overcrowded, quite unreliable, too hot in the summer

Being a student I need to use the Tube nearly every day to get to Uni and I can tell you now it is easily the worst travel experience I have ever had. The bus to the tube station is one of those horrible single floor Arriva buses with hardly any seats. As a result you nearly always have to stand during the morning rush and are thrown around the bus as the driver stops and starts. When people at the back want to get off they have to squeeze ... Easy access to London
Review of Getting around in London by tube by jonwhite

Advantages: quick, cheap
Disadvantages: None

...a lot cheaper and by getting a one day travel card I am free to go anywhere in London by bus or tube. This is excellent value for money. The service is, in the main, reliable and nearly always on time which makes a refreshing change from some services. The carriages are kept clean inside and staff are friendly and helpful. ... The Tube - Completly Re-writen Review
Review of Getting around in London by tube by james564

Advantages: Quick, enviromentally healthy
Disadvantages: Maintainence work causes delays

The LU is a very good part of london. You get around quick and the trains arent too harmful to the enviroment. If you just get down on a platform and there is a train pulling away without you on it you would normally have to wait another 20 mins on National Rail, but you don't need to worry on the LU, there'll be another train along in abou 2mins. ..: Lines :.. There are approximatly 12 tube lines. Each line, its routes and the stock it runs are ... Read review

greatest work of fiction
Review of Getting around in London by tube by kenduffy

Advantages: reliable
Disadvantages: times

many people read many different books whilst travelling on the underground, however the greatest piece of fiction you will find on the circle line platforms is the timetable. I am not saying the service is unreliable, you don't normally have to wait too long for a train its just that the times the trains arrive bear no resemblance whatsoever to times they are scheduled to arrive. whatever you do avoid travelling between noon and 2pm on this line at ... met line bad?
Review of Getting around in London by tube by kenduffy

Advantages: frequent and fast
Disadvantages: uncomfortable

Living on the Uxbridge branch of this line means I have no choice but to use it as the buses are so unreliable. In my experience over the past 3 years the service has proved to be very reliable between Uxbridge and Baker Street with trains running at least every 10 minutes during the day and every 15 or 20 mins during evenings and sundays. All trains consist of eight carriages which are far more spacious than other underground lines. However, none ... Read review

Take the bus!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by moophead

Advantages: Erm? Sometimes it runs on time?
Disadvantages: Unreliable, uncomfortable, sweaty...

...haven't got much chance of getting to sit down. Also, if it's hot outside then get ready to wring the sweat out of your clothes when you get off because it's absolutely boiling in there. If you're under 6 feet tall then don't forget your gas mask because there's no wat of escaping the hundreds of sweaty armpits that are bound to be shoved in your face. So, basically unless the new major gets his act together and does something to sort out the tube ... Read review

Advantages and disadvantages
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Chronis

Advantages: fast,
Disadvantages: Expensive

London tube is the heart of the transportation in London. Every day more than 9 million people travel with the tube. one of the main Disadvantages of the tube is that is very expensive. There is not satisfactory discount even if you buy a monthy travelcard. Most of the train are old exept in the city of London. But did they ever think to improve the service for the normal people. Yesterday(11/8/00) there was a runaway train in the northen line. Is ... Read review

I get there eventually...
Review of Getting around in London by tube by cameronmacaskill

Advantages: They try to help, inform.
Disadvantages: Smelly, noisy, crowded, delays and cancellations

I use the tube everday, twice a day. Going to work and coming back. Is it hell? Not really. OK, as I use the Circle lime, I am used to trains being delayed and not turning up. I am used to the announcments about works in and around Gloucester road slowing us all down. But, I have never failed to get where I'm going. The good thing is that they do, try, to keep you informed of delays. If trains aren't running you don't have to wait too long for ... Read review

Not bad, but not good
Review of Getting around in London by tube by thecubba

Advantages: Fast
Disadvantages: Cost, delays, accidents

If the government wants people to get out of their cars and use public transport, then Mr Blair & co sure have a lot of work to do. I live in Pinner, and I want to go to Harrow on the Hill which is 2 stops away. I could get a lift, but there may well be quite a lot of traffic. So I wait there on the platform, staring at my watch, and the train doesn't come. Suddenly, some irritating and sqwawky voice comes over the PA and babbles about something ... Read review

Not that bad!
Review of Getting around in London by tube by griffiti

Advantages: When everything is running smoothly, it is a great way of getting round London.
Disadvantages: Once one train is 'down', the whole system on that line and sometimes connecting ones back up as well

I recently stopped commuting after years of frustration, but, suddenly, those tubes not so bad! Maybe that's because, now when I travel, I try to avoid the rush hour. The main problem is overcrowding during rush hours. Be very careful at places like Oxford Street, where pushing crowds spilling on to platforms can be dangerous. But crowd control by transport officials can cause 'tube rage'! Watch out, too, for pickpockets and heart tugging ladies ... Read review

Despite its shortcoming, probably the best in the world
Review of Getting around in London by tube by Hasan

Advantages: Travelling in London made very easy
Disadvantages: Crowded, especially during rush hours

There have been a lot of criticism about the London Underground. But, I feel that it is probably the bets in the world. If someone experiences the New York or the Paris undergorund, they will most likely agree with me. However, there are shortcomings, like the overcrowding. The Central line is extremely overcrowded most of the time. While most other undergrounds are overcrowded at rush hour. Another improvement in the London Underground could be an ... Read review

Fab-tastic
Review of Getting around in London by tube by steffee

Advantages: Fast, reliable, cheap.
Disadvantages: Noisy sometimes and the wait in busy times.

The Underground or the Tube, as we all call it, is the single best way to get around. I think they should have it everywhere. It's just totally amazing. Many different lines and they just whizz you through the places and get you where you want in no time at all - well, most of the time anyway. Mind Victoria tube station though if you're not familiar, because that is very very busy and you're bound to get lost!! It's just utterly amazing to think ... Read review

No reason to drive
Review of Getting around in London by tube by anotherwiseguy

Advantages: Fairly priced, regular trains.
Disadvantages: Suicide jumpers, hot in summer, dirty someplaces.

Of all the millions of times I have been to London either on a job or as a merry day-tripper, I have never used a bus and rarely a taxi. There is obviously no way that I would take my car into the city centre - I prefer to go to town by train or coach and then get onto the Underground network as soon as possible. Mainly that's because the Underground is a first-class transport network. When I consider the few delays that sometimes occur and how ... Read review
