Advantages: cheap, good selection of sushi, noodle dishes, buffet, Disadvantages: (only minor ones) odd Chinese dishes, over-attentive staff,
...but I'll definitely be back.
Overall Gili Gulu is outstanding value for good quality food. Watch out for the 'buffet rules' which include customers staying for over 75 minutes and being charged for plates of food that have been ordered and not eaten. The staff can sometimes be a over-attentive, dashing back every couple of minutes to remove empty plates and covers. This was really only a minor diversion from a great eaterie. ...

Advantages: The price, theres alot of variety. Disadvantages: The staff can be a bit abrupt and complacent.
I first got introduced to Gili Gulu in 1999! I wasnt a sushi fan (I hadnt had it but its a great start out for non sushi fans) but I became converted from that day.
The restaurant is notthe easiest to find but once you know where it is its a doddle - funny that! Its situated near Seven Dials not far from Covent Garden and some really wicked kitsch clothes shops.
The restaurant looks funky and modern. Its a mass of window which you can have a ...

Advantages: Price, Choice, Atmosphere Disadvantages: Quality of some items, I wish drinks were cheaper
Gili Gulu is a Japanese/Oriental buffet restaurant. There are two branches in London, one in Bayswater and one in between Leicester Square and Covent Garden (St Martin's Lane), I have only been to the Covent Garden one.
Just by looking into the restaurant, you can see how it works, there are 2 large conveyor belt like tables, and the food swirls around in fron of the diners, and you can take whatever you fancy. The food is served on small dishes ...

Advantages: £14 deal works out cheap per dish Disadvantages: Below average sushi
I went here for a quick lunch recently and I have to say I wasn't very impressed. It is based on Monmouth Street which is just a hop skip and jump away from Covent Garden - so well placed for workers and tourists alike. Now I am a big sushi lover and was looking forward to going here but the food just didn't compare to almost every other sushi place I have ever been too. Yes its fast, with food constantly available on the moving conveyor belt should ...

Advantages: well price, good selection, well spaced out, clean Disadvantages: staff not that friendly
On entering Gili Gulu I was a bit dissapointed by the nonchalance of the waiters who seemed annoyed by the fact that I was waiting for a few friends. This was most un-welcoming.
Nevertheless, Gili Gulu offers an excellent deal: Eat as much as you like (noodles, sushi, sashumi) for £13 or set-menu 1 which includes 5 plates and miso soup or or set-menu 2 which is 2 plates and a bowl of noodles for £7.
The variety that runs along the conveyer belt ...

Advantages: Best bargain - Unlimited sushis ! Disadvantages: Quality could be improved
Gili Gulu is the best deal for sushi-fans with a HUGE appetite : £12 for eat-as-much-as-you-like sushis !
If the quality is not as good as at Yo Sushi!'s, it nevertheless remains more than very acceptable (best bet is to only pick salmon sushis).
For the non-sushi lovers, there are unlimited team Ramen and Noodles as well.
Service is friendly, and the atmosphere is definitely "MTV Japan" : lively, bright and clean.
Perfect for a late Saturday ...

Advantages: Cheap, cheap and eat as much as you want Disadvantages: Bad service, extremely bad service, and chinese food with sushi?
...you. Only difference between Gili Gulu and many infamous chains of Mr Wu is that the food goes around on a belt rather than left in a pot for your to help yourselves to.
Thats not to say food here is dirty and unclean, the similarities are that there are no such thing as service! Seeing as the place is ran by chinese people(not Japanese), their staffs are all mandarin speaking people, who have no idea what catering service means or how to provide ...
