I was on Gili Trawangan island in 2004, It is one of the Islands around Lombok, that was my last trip to Lombok but the best among my trips to Bali and Lombok. I went to Gilli Menos in 1996 with three friends. It was in July and was one of the best experiences of my life. It's a quiet island and so a great place to chill out or be with a partner. The sand is pure white and soft like talc and snorkeling is excellent. Everything is cheap - you can really do this on a shoestring but make sure that you have a decent mosquito net with you.
