Gino`s Spaghetti House, Oxford

Gino's is unlucky enough to be situated extremely near to a Bella Pasta, an Ask and the Gourmet Pizza Company. However, I think it totally wipes out the competition. I've been to the other restaurants, actually quite a few times, because my friends liked going there for birthday parties. The atmosphere is so much nicer than the alternatives, its warm, rustic feel is a welcome contrast to Ask's steely and cold dining room. I've been living in Oxford for the last 6 years, and one of the things I love the most is dinning out with my girl. I've been in almost every restaurant that there is to offer in this city, and i can definitly can tell you that there is only one of them that opens my apetite to return with a watering feeling in my mouth, and that is Gino's Spaghetti House, Gloucester Green, Oxford. I agree with all of the above review. I have been scores of times to this restaurant and am a Gino's addict. The staff are unfailingly delightful, in my opinion. It is worth knowing that when a group of Italians was engaged in a construction job somewhere outside Oxford, they travelled in every night to eat at Gino's; there were sometimes over 20 of them. Then it really DID feel like a piece of Italy. If so much was wrong with somewhere he had 'loved for years' on the occasion Aquaviva (below) went, you'd start to wonder whether he was in a bad mood on that visit! Great staff. I hate giving a bad press to somewhere I've loved for years, but this was my first visit for more than a year and a real disappointment. Service was sullen and unsmiling, the food was very poor, house wine was stale and vinegary. To give an example the minestrone was tepid, without pasta, beans or tomato and unseasoned, an unhealthy green with floating cabbage leaves.
