Coming into Glasgow by train or motorway you are immediately aware of the grim housing schemes that encircle much of the place. It seemed a good idea post-war to knock down all the unheathy tenements and ship people out to prefabricated housing schemes. What a mistake.
Arriving in the city centre, what is apparant is that Glaswegians love to shop. It is always busy. It is said that Glasgow has the best shopping after London and I would ... ...Key developments are the wonderful Glasgow Science Centre, Planitarium and IMAX, shortly to be joined by a new transport Museuem, BBC and it is rumoured Channel 4. Keep going and you will come to working class Ibrox (Rangers FC), Partick, and the out-of-town Braehead Shopping Mall, which is mostly in Renfrewshire (to Glasgow's disgust when they tried to levy Council Tax). Braehead, which is designed for carborne familes, and features the UK's bigest ...

...you can fly in. Glasgow International Airport is about twelve miles west of the city, and has great links via the M8 motorway. You can use budget airlines like Easyjet, but if you are coming on a weekend, then you can get good deals with British Airways and British Midland too. Glasgow Central Station is well served with links to the South. Virgin often have good deals, and you do see tickets for as little as £9, if you book early. Finally, and probably the most recommended if you are in the North ...

Advantages: Cultural centre with pleasent areas, that's superior to Edinburgh Disadvantages: High crime rate
I’ve been a resident in Glasgow for nigh on four months now, so I cannot say I have unbounded knowledge of the place. But I have accumulated enough knowledge to bring you a review of one of the most overlooked cities in Europe. So here it is…
The main problem with Glasgow is of course the negative image portrayed of it in the media. For every positive view the public are exposed to, such as the BBC Holiday 2001 report a couple of weeks ... ...that that, like all cities, Glasgow has areas of social deprivation, not helped by the decline in the shipping industry in the city, but in recent years the city has been pumped with money to brighten the place up. Thus, Glasgow is a wonderful cultural centre full of something money can’t buy, friendly, amiable residents.
It may not have the historical buildings and streets in the way Edinburgh does, but it has museums and galleries to suit ...

...comes from. I’ve been in Glasgow for less than a year, having started studying at Glasgow University in October last year. Secondly I am, horror of horrors, English, so I may be a bit biased on that front.
So, Glasgow - I’m pretty damn impressed by my first few months here: the city has a wealth of things to do and places to go. You can scarcely walk down the street without falling over pubs and clubs galore. You’re never really ... ...For those who like shopping Glasgow has plenty of space to do that, especially on Sauchiehall street, which has all of the major chain stores. Still, it is worth going slightly out of the town centre to find some really cool little shops which are much more reasonably priced or more specialist than the major shops. For second hand records I can recommend Missing on Great Western Road, and for general strangeness I would advise that you pop along ...

I first visited Glasgow April 1999. I now am a lover of the city, and go back as often as I can and it is not at all like any of the press say. It is such a beautiful city. There is so much to see, so much to do. I stayed there for a week last October, and still didnt see it all. I found it to be such a clean city. While I was there a few weeks ago, sat in the sunshine in George Square, there were people cleaning it all the time.
The people are ...

I don't live in Glasgow and I probably had the same preconceived ideas on it as most other non Glaswegians. But let me open your eyes to a side of the city not well known to outsiders. Advantages: Lots and Lots to do Disadvantages: Can get a bit busy at weekends and may meet the odd idiot
Glasgow, the best city in Scotland in my opinion, is situated on the West Coast of Central Scotland. There is lots to do for anyone. Filled with Art Galleries, Theatres, Cinemas, Pubs, Clubs, Attractions and lots more.
It would be insane to mention everthing in Glasgow, but I can recommend some things.
For shopping, there are three major malls. Buchanan Galleries just has about everything you would need situated in the centre of town.
For pubbing, ... ...are Yang (Queen Street), Nice And Sleazy (Sauchiehall Street) and The Republice (Gordon Street).
For theatre, I like The Arches which is host to small scale productions, or there is The Pavillion Theatre for more popular theatre (The Steamie, Panto etc.) and of course the Citizens in the Gorbals which always has class productions.
For clubbing, there is The Garage and Archaos for the pop teeny-boppers, or Yang or The Arches for the more serious ...

Advantages: Friendly people Disadvantages: Bad Reputation
Glasgow is one of the best cities in Britain if not the world.
So much has happened here and so much can still happen.
The culture is great, people so friendly unlike some places (Edinburgh. London, etc).
There’s so much to do now so everyone has something they can relate to.
Loads of pubs , nightclubs so the city keeps buzzing all through the night and plenty of hangovers the next morning as well.
But it’s the friendliness I like about Glasgow, ...

Most of the readers of this op will come from a large city, and will be used to walking always upon the stone or ashphalt covering which spreads thinly over the soil. But this isn't the way of Glasgow, acity of parks and memorials to bring joy to the hearts of people young and old.

Advantages: Cheap to live, lots to do Disadvantages:
Glasgow is a fantastic city, both to live in and to visit. There are lots of museums and art galleries which to date are all free. Most are very famous especially the Museum of Modern Art and the Burrell Collection. There are lots of shops many of which are biggerthan in other towns and there may be several of the same shop. They range from designer labels to cheap market stalls at the Barras. There are plenty of parks in the City centre. Glasgow ...

The public transport in Glasgow is great. You have an underground, which allows you to go to almost anywhere in glasgow, an excellent train service going to loads of places across the UK, and a very good bus service as well.
Of course, Glasgow is also home of both Rangers and Celtic FC, sctotlands best known footie teams.
Glasgow has some great museums, clubs and bars as well. And some great theatres and cinemas.

...I've just been living in Glasgow for a year, I came here to study and can honestly say it is a great city. A city full of culture and pride. The city has a very warming and welcoming feel to it, with the sound of bagpipes filling the air. It is a very special place.

When you approach Glasgow from the new M77 motorway, the sight of the city laid out before you is a sight to behold. On a warm summers day or a crisp winter's it never ceases to startle me and make me appreciate that we have a beautiful city on our doorstep.
