If You're Goan to Goa

Advantages: Sun - Marvellous Beaches & Markets-Friendly people-Relaxing
Disadvantages: Bit Dusty - Third world technology - electricity goes off sometimes

Goa is a magical resort on the west coast of India. It is suited to couples, Backpackers, families, in fact it is an 'all-rounder' In the north you will find lively resorts with great nighlife. To the South, you will find the upper class hotels and deserted beaches, in fact too deserted if you ask me. The South is for the more relaxed and layed-back holiday animal. Before arriving at your resort, you must first go through the Dabolim airport experience. ...
...could talk for hours about Goa but my fingers are now getting a bit numb. Finally I would say that the most memorable part of our holiday was the Goan people. They have very little in terms of wealth. But they have hearts bigger than Goa itself. If the place doesn't enchant you, then the people most certainly will. ...

Cidade de Goa, Panaji,

Advantages: sun, sea and marvellous food
Disadvantages: poverty

I have visited Goa for seven years consecutively, up to three years ago. The only reason I have not been recently is marriage breakup and studying for a degree. Cidade de Goa is an excellant hotel, the staff are incredibly friendly without being intrusive. The hotel is spotlessly clean, restful and to be honest the best one I have ever stayed in, and I used to travel extensively. The people in Goa are so willing to help and show you the area, one ...
...I would be back in Goa tomorrow if it were possible, because although it is a little pricey to get there, it costs you pennies when you are there. Just learn to say no to the badgering children or go and buy them a banana for about 2p. Go and enjoy, if you don't like it I would be very surprised. But do expect to see a few things that we are not used to seeing here in the West. The poverty is distressing, but the way of life is spiritual and I ...

Goa november 99

Advantages: Cheap, good food, scenery, people
Disadvantages: poverty, hawkers,low key nightlife

...First impressions of goa were hot and crowded, somewhat of a culture shock at the time. I stayed at a hotel called paradise beach in Calangute, the hotel was basic but clean right on the beach and served decent food. The first thing I noticed about the beach was just how quiet and spacious it was, hardly anyone on it. There are numerous beach shacks and bars dotted along the beach, which all serve good food and will hire out sunlounges for free ...
...a game. Food in goa is great, curries, fresh fish lobster and tiger prawns are some of the specialities. There are loads of chinese, thai and also italian, if you get sick of curry. Most meals were £6-8 for 3 courses and beer. If you like sunbathing on the beach, you can expect to be approached by any number of beach sellers, they are friendly and will talk to you, they sell all sorts, fruits, massage, soft drinks and souveneirs, some which are ...

Varca Beach

Advantages: Cheap, nice food, lovely beach
Disadvantages: Airport service

I went on holiday for the first time to Varca Beach in December 1999. I loved it so much that I'm going back again this year. If you're after a relaxing holiday with wonderful Chinese and Indian food, an amazing, clean, white sandy beach as far as the eye can see in either direction then this may be the place you've been looking for. there's a quite large town called Margao which is just a bus ride away. Everything is very cheap and the people are ...
...away, except it was better at home. In early to mid December the weather is just right and it's still quiet season so the hotels haven't hiked up their prices. There are a range of places to stay to suit all budgets, from guesthouses to 5* resorts with pitch & putt courses and large gardens. If you're a fairly laid-back and adventurous type of person, you'll love this place. ...

Holiday Inn Goa (Good and Bad)

Advantages: Weather- Beach - Walking - Food - Relaxation
Disadvantages: Time Share - Russians - Tipping

\We went to the Holiday inn 3 times over three years. The first two times it was fabulous. The Hotel itself was really clean and the staff were really friendly and could not do enough for you. We stayed in the Club Rooms which are just a little bigger than the normal rooms and better fitted out. The hotel is set back from the beach and you walk along a lovely path through the gardens. We went all inclusive both times an probably paid about £1400 ...
...clean wide and you can walk for miles. The sea is warm and inviting. You can eat in the beach shacks as many people did, but we loved the food in the hotel and wanted nothing more than complete rest. We had previously stayed at the Leela Beach, The Ramada Renaissance and The Cicado where we had done all our touring. The last time we went back we noticed a drastic change, the Russians had found the hotel, they were loud, rude and took over the place, ...

South Goa

Advantages: Cheap, Quieter than the North of Goa, more laid back, good selection of accomodation to suit all pockets
Disadvantages: can sometime be popular with busloads of Indian Tourists

...months a year in South Goa for the last 6 years. I stay in a fishing village called Colva which is about 35 minutes from Goa Airport. It is much quieter than the north of Goa but still has some excellent restaurants and bars as well as a small airconditioned disco. There is a good selection of accomodation ranging in price from budget to luxury. Most rooms have attached bathroom with a shower and toilet with cold water if in budget or hot if in ...
...to use the net in Goa than in the UK but more expensive to print out emails. Colva is a backpackers destination as well as a package holiday destination. It suits a variety of people both young and old who prefer something alittle less lively than the north of Goa. On the whole the people are friendly and remember your face if you return again. The best time to visit is between November and March. It gets very hot after March and then the monsoon ...

Majorda Beach Resort - Wonderful

Advantages: Inexpensive food/accommodation
Disadvantages: Security over the top outbound at airport.!!

...We stayed in South Goa at the Majorda Beach Resort approximatly 20 km or 30 minutes from the airport. Speaking of which was the only downside of our holiday. Horendous waits with registration/landing cards to complete through several security checks and finaly harrased by customs officers to make sure tou have no more than 200 cgarettes.!! Greeted by our rep' (and about 10 willing "bag carriers" who were cheeky to ask for a tip for just saying hello) ...
...(apparently the only hotel in Goa to have one) It fronts a splendid, clean beach with very few pedlars, a couple of beach shacks which were reasonably priced - ie kingfisher beer was a third of the price we paid in the hotel. Staff at this resort were the best - you think American Service is good well it aint a patch on service here - nothing was too much - a real treat. There is a gym/sauna, tennis courts, squash. beauty salon, hair salon, water ...

Goa (India)

Advantages: The cost of living, Great food, weather(pick your season).
Disadvantages: Having to pay bribes to the Police to get home every night.

...at all beautiful. For me Goa is now spoiled. Now that the large package tour operaters have their foothold and the developers have raped the land its better to go elsewhere. Don't get me wrong Goa has some nice places. Really nice, friendly locals and ok beaches. Though they're not a patch on the beaches to be found in S E Asia, i.e. Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. Also, Goa like the rest of India has a big dog problem, making it unsafe to wander ...
...happened to me!!! For me Goa should be experienced as part of a grander tour of India, without the help(or hinderance) of a package tour operater who gives you a couple of hours at a site and then packs you onto an air-con coach to your next site. Experience it for yourselves. Take the train, the bus and the rickshaws. Its an amazing adventure and its cheap as chips. ...

Great food, great sun, not packed with Brits

Advantages: Cheap, very sunny, great beaches, food
Disadvantages: Lack of sight-seeing places

Goa was everything we wanted from a holiday - relaxing, great sun, great food, fantastic beaches and above all - cheap! We arranged our holiday separately and not through a package operator, but that's because we were recommended an accommodation provider called Lazydays in Goa (website: www.lazydays.co.uk), who have on their books various villas and appartments that are individual, have character and are very comfortable. We chose a villa called ...
...women who run Lazydays in Goa itself. She had lots of hints and tips and was very helpful. We ate mainly at the shacks, which do great cheap food and usually provide sunbeds for free. Try the king prawns - delicious. In the evenings, we usually went to try other things, and often treated ourselves to an good meal in an air-con restaurant - they cost about the same as a meal in England. In Candolim, there is the Fort Aguada Beach Resort and in Baga, ...

Disadvantages: Mosquitos!

...and 31 respectively) travelled to Goa last March for an 8 day trip. Despite the very long flight (9 hours) with no cigarettes, I found Goa to be everything I dreamed of and more. The climate in March was wonderful and warm - at least 30 degrees every day - and very humid. This time of tear is quite close to monsoon season and this, coupled with the humid climate, meant that the beaches etc weren't as busy as they could have been. We stayed at a ...

If you aren't big on any of the former you probably wont have any trouble - we even found an Italian restaurant (but beware, it doesn't tell you it is a vegetarian restaurant!) All in all, I completely loved my trip to Goa - the weather was wonderful the locals incredibly friendly and the beached ...

Bogmalo

Advantages: ExcellentLocation
Disadvantages: Limited Nightlife

...wife and I went to Goa earlier this year. We avoided the north of state as we didn’t fancy the nightlife we were after a more relaxing holiday. We stayed in a place called Bogmalo which was dismissed by the Lonely Planet, how wrong they were. Bogmalo is about 10 minutes from the airport. It’s location is pretty central and it’s relatively quick, cheap and easy to get around the state. The village itself is good. There is Manoli’s ...

Cidade de Goa Hotel

Advantages: private beach - no hassle to buy things. Excellent food. Pleasant rooms all with sea view
Disadvantages: Loud pop music at night.

...stayed at the Cidade de Goa in the southern part of Goa in February this year after touring around northern India for 2 weeks. To be honest, our first impressions of the hotel were not favourable, the lobby seemed bleak and the route to the room was like a trip down the back stairs to the basement. On venturing to the poolside bar we observed that the sea was quite brown and it looked suspiciously like we were at the entrance to a river. Images ...
...wrong. The Cidade de Goa lives up to its 5 stars. My only real criticism is the staffs inclination to play rather dreadful pop music on the lawn next to the barbecue area. This happened about 3 nights out of 6 for parties of business people and was quite intrusive. One night it was so bad we and another couple threatened to leave the barbecue restaurant if it was not turned down, but they did, at least to a tolerable level. ...

BEST PLACE IN GOA

Advantages: quiet, no aircraft noise, beautiful and clean, cheap
Disadvantages: none, not even mosquitoes

We went to Goa in April, just before the Monsoon season started and were lucky enough to find ourselves at Bogmalo Beach, a wonderful expanse of sand, very safe water for swimming and even Dolphins in the Bay. A short distance from Vasco de Gama airport, it was amazingly free of beach sellers so you can sunbathe in peace, in fact it was free of people - at any one time there were only half a dozen people on the beach! There are only two hotels, one ...
...and one that is quiet and secluded. This is where we stayed. Called the Coconut Creek, it is a series of air conditioned apartments set around a lovely pool, hammocks strung between the trees and a brook running around between the apartments. You have your own terrace with two chairs and the people could not have been friendlier, it is a family run affair and the extended family run the hotel, the bar, the taxi service and everything else. Everything ...

Advantages: weather(great!) price (cheap!)
Disadvantages: poverty, beach sellers.
