...HOLIDAY ACTION! My local Going Places had a advertising drive last year on discounted American holidays. You can pay extortionate amounts for their "gold" packlage, but to be honest it really is not worth it, a couple of drinks and a free magazine does not justify adding £100+ to your holiday budget. The process of complaining became so tiresome that we did not end up even accepting that. I first used going places in June of last year, my husband and I had decided that we wanted to go on a very short notice holiday. We spent the best part of the day going from travel agent to travel agent trying to find a last minute holiday but within a reasonable price but somewhere of interest. I was very unimpressed with Going Places when we tried their services recently. My partner and I wanted book a holiday over Christmas and the New Year this year for ourselves and our 10 year old son, and we had a very good idea of where we wanted to go (4 star hotel in either Paphos, Cyprus or the Canaries) and a total budget of under £2k. We booked a holiday with Going Places (Penrith Branch) a week ago. We has researched our hloiday option carefully and had a clear idea of our requirements. We tried all the high street agencies with a mixed response. Going Places were the most helpful. They listened to our requirement and didn't waste our time with inappropriate packages. The package offered was the best price avialable. After commiting ourselves, they didn't push their other services ...
...example, they offered unbiased advice on insurance and were happy that they did not buy their product. I don't know if this good service is indicative of the standard of other branches, so I can recommend this branch only. Hopefully service standars are high throughout the chain. You could find out by giving your local branch the benefit of doubt. ...

I've booked a fair bit of travel through "Going Places" when I was living in England, and have always found them to be helpful and efficient. I'm a self -confessed cheapie and found out a pretty sly trick. I find the lowest price for my trip on the internet, then go in to "Going Places"and ask them to match it. Usually, they can to within a tenner! My husband and I took a 3 day tour to Amsterdam - nice but basic hotel, ferry and train travel included ...
...like £159 each. Not bad. Then, when I was coming back to live in the United States, I went in to see about my QE2 booking. I don't fly, so I have to suffer the indignities of sailing across the Atlantic - gourmet food, activities, steward turning down the bed of a night and leaving chocolates on my pillow. terrible life, isn't it? The brochure price was like £1800 for a single cabin. No way could I pay that! I got it (including taxes and port charges) ...

...Italy, and paid £1,200 from Going Places in Ashton-Under-Lyne. We booked a couple of weeks before. When we got the confirmation the information didn't seam right, so I went into the agents to double check it. I found that they had booked us into a hotel of the same name, but in an entirely different town ! Going Places were extremely unhelpfull. The hotel we wanted was now fully booked, and going places would't pay the difference for us to stay in ...
