The Sands of Time.

Advantages: Breathe-taking scenery, peaceful, lots to see and do.
Disadvantages: No Larger-louts. no crime.

...Wales best kept secrets, The Gower Peninsula. In my heart I want it to remain, as I've always known it, an untouched part of Wales without all the trappings of commercialisation. Yet every year more people are drawn to this place with its many beautiful beaches and its air of a place unspoilt by time. I'm going to take you on a journey of exploration referring sometimes to its history but always keeping in mind that to set foot here the traveller ...
...no main roads on the Gower just little B roads where traffic can come to a standstill in the months of high summer. Coaches have to follow the winding roads to reach the many beaches and hidden coves. The best way to reach the Gower is to go through Swansea passing by the Mumbles and taking a right turn to start following the one major road, which crosses the moors of Cefyn Bryn on the way to the magnificent beaches. Swansea has one small airfield ...

Secrets of the Gower Peninsula.

Advantages: Stunning views, pristine and clean beaches, never too busy.
Disadvantages: The Gower is a fair way from most other places

...time was spent exploring the Gower Peninsula. A stunning and relatively unknown little gem tucked away in South Wales, The Gower was the first place in Britain to be designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' in 1949 and it truly lives up to this honour. Getting there and Away. ************************** You can get to the Gower in between 20 minutes and a hour from Swansea, if you're driving, depending on which bit you want to go to. ...
...and there! I'd recommend the Gower Inn myself for great homemade lunches for a good price. The Coastline from Mumbles. ********************************* There are numerous sandy beaches and rocky coves around the headland from Swansea Bay, past Mumbles. The first of these is Bracelet Bay, a pretty cove from which the mumbles lighthouse can be seen. There is a great Italian restaurant here overlooking the bay and the sea and it is very good value ...

Something for everyone - an amazing place

Advantages: Scenery, beaches, sightseeing, walks, village pubs
Disadvantages: Small roads, campsites that fill up too quickly

...(M4) to contend with. The Gower is mostly comprised of small rural villages but there are several larger urban areas there too which adds to the variety. Due it's rural nature a car is essential when visiting. You then have the option for going further afield to visit other attractions nearby such as Pembrokeshire to the west for more scenery and beaches or Cardiff to the east for shopping and culture. There are 2 main routes into the Gower, along ...
...For a holiday, the Gower really does have everything and sometimes, even the weather! And the weather can make all the difference. The Gower has some of the best beaches in the UK and they tend to be the main reason why people visit. This can make it difficult when it's cold and raining to find things to entertain yourself, particularly if you're in one of the smaller villages. That said, it is often hot and sunny on the Gower when even just 20-30 ...

More sheep than people

Advantages: Beautiful coastal scenery
Disadvantages: Not for thrill seekers

The Gower Peninsula is how I imagine Cornwall was 30 or 40 years ago before it was discovered and turned into an endless round of surf shops, nightclubs and tea rooms. That it has not ended up as commercialised as Cornwall can be attributed to a number of factors. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, the Gower (Gŵyr) was designated Britain’s first AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) by the National Trust in 1956. Currently around 11% ...
...National Trust. Secondly, the Gower is tucked away behind Swansea (Abertawe in Welsh). I’ve heard the Gower referred to as a suburb of Swansea, and perhaps descriptions such as this have allowed it to retain some of its obscurity. It is certainly close to Wales’ industrial heartland city, but is literally light-years away in terms of scenery and culture. Swansea’s proximity is both the Gower’s boon and its bane. Swansea is close enough to the Gower ...

Croeso i Gymru.

Advantages: See review.
Disadvantages: None known.

The Gower Peninsula is one of those places that, although it is close to a city would not seem so - it is a rural setting, with urban life on its doorstep. Let me explain! Gower, although not an actual 'Area of Outstanding Beauty'; 'National Park' and that (or whatsoever you want to call it!), is still in my mind an area where paradise is all but felt. As already noted, it is on the doorstep of a city - Swansea. The very second you leave here, you ...
...respect it, just go there! Like most things, you can never appreciate things without being there for yourself. On arriving, you will find a whole host and mixture of things to do. From coastal paths; through country village pubs; to spectacular views, even to surfing beaches - there is something to do for all of the family. There are also a number of golf courses (yawn!), to nature reserves that again should cater for any taste. But should you ever ...

A place to relax and enjoy

Advantages: Outstanding Natural beauty
Disadvantages: Some of the best views and places only accessible by foot

Gower was one of the first places to be seen as a place of natural outstanding beauty. It has for many many years attracted tourists from all over the world from climbers to people looking for an area to rest and relax. If you are a large family who like a holiday by the beach then one of the best beach in the area is Caswell, this has a road access and a small selection of shops to buy food and ice cream from. A lot of the best views in the area ...

nice campsite

Advantages: price, lots to do, facilities
Disadvantages: weather, getting there

I stayed on the Gower near a village called Penmaen, with two other families and a school friend (12 people) for 2 nights. It was not that easy to get to as there arent many useful sign posts on Swansea and we only had a A to Z of Brittian. The price is per person per night so we put up about 7 tents of varing sizes. The wind and the lack of flat ground made it hard to put the tends up but we made it in the end. There was some flat ground but it ...
...in a small bay, at high tyde there is not much sand left at all. The rest of the time the beach is not too crowed. There are rocks to climb. There were quite a few people body boarding in the waves. The site has a shower and toilet block with washing up sinks (there are tokens for hot water), a shop which sells thinks like charcoal, milk, bread, sweets, postcards and some toys, and a laundry room. The people on the site were all friendly. The site ...

Area of outstanding beauty.

Advantages: Outstanding area of natural beauty.
Disadvantages: None.

The Gower Peninsula - what a truyl amazing area of natural and outstanding beauty. Just past Swansea, it has got something for everyone - making it the ideal and perfect holiday. Charming villages; surfing beaches; costal walks; views to die for, and lots more. There are many places to stay in as well, from small village/ country pubs to small holiday parks. You don't even have to actually there to enjoy it, as it is only a short drive away from ...
...side of it - so as long as you can find transport once you get there, then the rest is easy. The best time to go is in the summer, as that is when a lot of it is happening. But that said, a lot of it you can still take part in suring the winter months also. Surely surfing and walking can be spread out all the way through the year?! This is the sort of place that you fall in love with on your first visit, so that you kind of want to go back again. ...
